Help designing a baby nursery

Hi mums
Just wondering where other mums found tips and inspiration when it came to designing their first baby nursery.
Was it something you found easy or not?

I will be very grateful if any one can share their experience such as how you decided on the colour scheme, the type of deco, what magazines did you read, websites you found useful when it came to designing your baby nursery e.t.c

If you had the chance to design another nursery, what would you do different?

Thanking you in advance.

I didn't 'design' either of my children's rooms. We just had stuff given to us and bought a few bits from Toys R Us.

I wouldn't do it any different. Babies don't appreciate anything other than plain and comfy when they are tiny. The recommendation is that babies are in their parents' room for the first 6 months do it could be a while before it gets used anyway.

When they are a bit older and can choose stuff i'll be more inspired but until then I'm not fussed.

Probably not much help!

Think practical - a few shelves will be useful to put all the crap lovely presents you will receive and make sure your changing table is near the clothes!

The only thing I did to 'design' my nursery was buy dark coloured furniture to match the dark wood antique rocker my PILs gave us for the nursery.

Now that He's 14 months and obviously thinking about climbing out of his crib (he's 31 inches so his head is already above the rail) I am contemplating a knight theme for his big boy bed, to go with the knight pillow one of my friends needle pointed for him.

I didn't want an all bought in one shop high street kind of look do spent a lot of time googling. When we discovered we were having a little boy, we decided on a jungle/safari theme, we painted the Walls the obligatory light blue and I found these stickers www.beckyandlolo.co.uk/product/safari_wall_stickers/ for the wall, we needed two packs. We chose blue gingham curtains and plain blue fitted sheets (I didn't buy anything else because intended DS to sleep in grobags. We found a lovely lampshade in JoJos (but they don't do it anymore. Furniture wise we bought a cotbed and changing table from Mamas and Papas and a wardrobe from the Marks and Spencer nursery range. I bought toy buckets from Asda. Family then kept with the theme with Fisher Price bouncer and mobile from the precious planet range and my MILcross stitched a birth sampler in the theme.
I know be won't appreciate it but it makes me happy.

I painted my daughter's room red and white so it would be cheerful and bright. Stencilled the alphabet on the walls in primary colours, made some curtains with big red flowers on them and bought a secondhand cot. Job done. The only other thing in there was a chest of drawers I inherited from my grandmother. The chest of drawers saw a lot of action from early on. The cot saw very little. We didn't need anything else in there. Now she's older, she's been allowed to pick paint colours for her new (larger) room and needs storage for toys etc. I wouldn't expend too much energy on a baby's room - they honestly don't care as long as it's clean, warm and comfortable.
