Ok so my choices are:

1)pay off chunk of credit card debt (9.9%apr)

2)go on holiday (me and dp have never been abroad together or had more than a weekend break)

  1. put it in a (unavoidably) low interest savings account for a rainy day or for the kids (have no savings/pension)

4)buy a bigger car (12 yo 3 door for 4 of us at the moment)

  1. combination of the above

  2. (worst of all) fritter it all away on 'living expenses'

Save a large portion, say half of it and spend the rest of it on paying off your cc bill. But then I am quite sensible with money now lol.

  1. Check they've got it right!

Am cynical after having an overpayment!

Lucky you if they have though

Oh and pay off credit card if you're being charged higher interest than savings, maybe saving £50 for a treat for the family.

Boring, but I would!

I would say put it somewhere safe so that when they tell you they have overpaid you you won't have to negotiate a repayment plan

I got a tax credit windfall of £1800 recently as our income fell below the estimate. We have upgraded our family car to a decent runner - the old one was bashed up and about to fail an expensive MOT. I feel like Lady Penelope now - only a Vauxhall Astra..... 56 reg best car I've had

EnglandAllenPoe · 16/07/2010 16:30

pay off credit card.

£1k isn't go to go far into upgrading car.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 16/07/2010 16:32

Assuming you are completely sure they have got it right pay off the credit card. Boring, but the must efficicent use of the money.

foreverastudent · 16/07/2010 16:32

It's not an overpayment- I used to work in benefits/money advice.

Yes I would worry they had cocked it up and would be expecting it back

TheBolter · 16/07/2010 16:34

Credit card. No brainer. I feel uneasy when I have more than 1K on mine.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 16/07/2010 16:35

Pay off the credit card.

PestoEatsPasties · 16/07/2010 16:38

I would stick it aside for when the tax office realise they've cocked up again and ask for it all back.

tuggy · 06/08/2010 13:17

Oh God definately pay a chuck off the CC. NO brainer...
