Can we have a men’s gifts thread

There are often threads asking for ideas for specific men and I’ve often picked up a good idea from them. I thought it might be useful to have a general one to share ideas of what we’re buying, hits and misses of previous years.
So far...
dh is getting clothes, new belt (sounds dull but he’s very particular and it took me a while to track down the exact one so he’ll appreciate the effort, and his current one is looking worn), a magnetic wristband (so I don’t have to hunt for missing screws) and Bluetooth earphones
Df will be getting sports dvds
Dfil is getting a weatherstick and toffee that you break with a hammer and possibly a wireless bird box or a trip on a steam train/canal boat (still thinking about this)

I’ve had success in previous years with grid it for both men and women, and with thin optics tiny reading glasses. Though it took a bit of convincing to give them a go, both dh and fil love them.

Sugru went down like a lead balloon here though it gets recommended a lot, and I’d quite like some myself.

I’m hoping it’s more for locking yourself out or helping friends who have done the same.

Fair enough. Our door doesn't lock automatically when closed so not an issue for me.

@Lc2006 we have talked about a sound bar for years - can you recommend one? I hate researching tech stuff so would gladly get that as a present for dh!

As it is, he is gettting a velvetiser & smellies

I bought this for my DB who’s a keen fisherman and hangs about in freezing cold weather a lot of the time (is he mad?)

Balaclava fleece

Annoyingly my DM asked me to buy it for her to give him, as she’s housebound and not computer literate, so I’ve still got to find something to buy him myself. An impossible task.

These are all brilliant suggestions!

One year I got one of my dad's favourite songs made into sound wave art (he's always so tricky to buy for!): www.notonthehighstreet.com/yveprintco/product/metallic-personalised-favourite-song-sound-wave-print

Always think event tickets are a nice gift too - especially if it means you can spend time with them (and wrap it in an annoying way haha)

@buckeejit unfortunately not sorry, this will be the first one I have bought so just going to go by reviews. You could ask on the bargain thread if any ones seen a good deal and/or can recommend a good one you may get a few answers from there

Ugh. Christmas.

I don’t want gifts. They don’t want gifts. It’s all pointless politeness these days and it all goes into landfill eventually.

I just want to opt out completely.

[sorry to be a buzz kill]

@Kiwiinkits maybe get off this thread then?

Report

Rude.
But yes, I hadn’t noticed it was a Christmas thread. Ignore me.

Is an Aeropress basically a cafetière, or is it more exciting than that?

So far, dp is getting:
books
new coat, trousers and t-shirt (he never buys himself clothes and I'm sick of the sight of the few things he wears!)
He'll get some cheese, chutneys etc, plus beer, brandy and maybe a big pork pie

Last year I got him some 'posh' shaving soap in a wooden box, plus a shaving brush, and it went down a storm.

My DH is ridiculously hard to buy for. I've bought him all the main gifts in the past, wallet, watch ect. His birthday this weekend I've gotten him clinique for men toiletries (travel size for working away) jade roller for his temples as hes often staring at a screen and getting headache, no idea if it will work. Chocolate, Calvin's and Concert tickets. For Christmas we won't be getting eachother anything, just being together is enough. No use stressing ourselves out. Some fab ideas on here though.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie No, it's totally different, although they both have a press down action. It's a single cup coffee maker, and its unique thing is that there's a cushion of air between the device and the coffee, as the coffee is forced through a filter paper into the cup.

It's worth a look. I know several coffee experts who swear by the aeropress.

For DH's with freezing cold hobbies like fishing, what about a zippo handwarmer? Stays hot for hours.

@buckeejit the best sound bar I've found is the Sonos beam, it's amazing and can be paired with sonos play speakers to make surround system later down the line. It comes in black or white.

Report
NemophilistRebel · 17/11/2019 10:51

Only problem with Sonos is it isn’t very future proof as they stop supporting or even working with tech eventually

I can recommend a motion sensor wildlife camera for those interested in nature and the outdoors. We use ours in both the front and back garden and it's fascinating to see what turns up.
Other popular suggestions for DH & DS18 (mostly stocking fillers) have included:-
box of indoor fireworks
Badger balm
Nando's voucher
Odeon voucher
bluetooth beanie hat
Biltong (dreid meat)
Private Eye annual
Powerbuzz magnets

DH is getting a new woollen coat, Chanel Blu aftershave, shirt and jumper from fatface, fossil leather wrist strap.
Stocking gifts- boxers x3, socks x3, scarf, Molton brown shower gel, leather card holder and sweets.

His birthday is two weeks before Christmas, definitely hard to find so many ideas in such a short space of time. Thinking a trip somewhere for February break.

A pack of cough"protection"nudge nudge 😂

I'm obviously a bit thick but all I can come up with here is strepsils, which, given the nudge, nudge, I assume is incorrect?

Yes, it's a Crenova trail camera HC1000A.
We had it on last night and it caught a hedgehog snuffling about in the front garden at 3.10 am Smile
