Background is I’m tired. Haven’t had a minute lately due to work and other things going on. Spent last weekend doing a house move for someone else and having to do all of the lifting and organizing. I’m tired, emotional, and bruised (literally from hauling boxes and stuffing a skip).

So I’ve taken today off and will be doing precisely nothing.

I slept til 8.15, stayed in bed reading until 9.30, and now I’m drinking coffee and watching the curling.

I’ve set my exercise ring in my Apple Watch to the minimum, have lit a nice scented candle, and have a movie lined up for later. It’s pouring rain out and I’m determined to stay in.

Please do feel free to ask me anything, or to tell me how jealous you are 😁

sounds brilliant! I have a Sunday coming up when NOBODY else will be here and I have been inspired. I'll need to walk the dog and I wish we had JE as the thought of a morning food delivery sounds brilliant, but I think I might do movie-book marathon and line up some films I've wanted to watch for a while and punctuate them with an hour or two of reading.

Wish it was also overnight as I love having the evening to myself and waking up to an empty house too but beggars can't be choosers

BinseyPoplars · 06/02/2026 14:26

Is it wine time yet OP?

OneHundredDays · 06/02/2026 14:27

I'm doing nothing until 4pm when I have to take DD to a dance class. I'm not feeling too well though. I woke up really late, had a sausage sandwich with DH who's working from home, scrolled on my phone for a couple of hours and am about to read some of my book.

I'm reading Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. I'm not very far in and it certainly didn't grab me straight away but I often find that when the style is unusual, as this is, so I'll carry on.

Do you enjoy reading? What are you currently reading/what's the last book you read and is it any good?

CheshireCat1 · 06/02/2026 14:29

I have lots of days like this since I’ve reduced my hours at work. Life is too short for slogging your guts out.

justtheotheronemrswembley · 06/02/2026 14:52

@LoveIy I took a day off on Wednesday so I could do nothing. Bliss, isn't it?

InstinctD · 06/02/2026 14:54

Yay for rest day, have a good one OP!

Wish I didn’t have to go do school run, got soaked earlier and is more of the same out there, cold and endlessly wet ☔️

Have you watched your film yet and what’s for dinner tonight?

hby9628 · 06/02/2026 14:55

Sounds lovely. It’s so important to do this. I’m hoping for some time next weekend to do something similar

LoveIy · 06/02/2026 15:00

Update:

Day off is going really well.

I had toast and a cup of tea for lunch, eaten on the sofa while watching a film.

Anniversary was really good, not at all what I was expecting. To be fair, I did zero research so was expecting something like The Girlfriend but it was very different. I think it would have been better as a series as I’d have liked to know more about the political ideology of The Change, and the impact it was having on society.
Kyle Chandler is still gorgeous 😍

A few people asked me what I’m reading and I finished Aisling Rawle’s The Compound this morning. Really enjoyed, it’s like a mix between Love Island and Lord of the Flies. Also reading Doll House which is a thriller about a kidnapped young woman. I’m not loving it but want to stick with it as I’m convinced I spotted the real identity of the baddie quite early on.

Thanks to whomever mentioned an electric blanket. I have now added my heated throw to my afternoon. It’s delightful.

Sounds like a lovely day off and I am jealous!

I am lucky to be wfh today, although I have a bit of a virus. I'm finished work at 4.30 and I'll collect Dc and make dinner. Dh and Dc are then going out in the evening so I'm looking forward to an evening of peace.

I'd love to take a day off work but need to save my al days as I will no doubt need them with Dc later in the year.

It does sound like you really deserve the rest so enjoy!

What’s for dinner and how are you winding down your day? This evening I plan on watching the Lucy Letby documentary on Netflix, and possibly also the movie Heartburn, which has just been added. No idea on dinner though!

It might be more toast 😬
Diet is going well today!

I have proper food in the fridge but have ended up having some nuts and crisps with a cocktail in front of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony so not really in the mood for something substantial.

Is the LL documentary any good? Don’t think I could handle anything depressing.

I booked a day off last week to do just that dropped the kids off knowing they were at their dads for the evening got home walked the dogs then sat on the sofa doing absolutely nothing all day. I really need it and felt so much better for doing it I think I caught up on around 17 hours of sleep.

Tallestone · 06/02/2026 20:29

I hope you enjoyed your day off.

ANNIVERSARY is soooo good. DIANE LANE is amazing in it. The whole star studded cast is great!

I think it was on MN where I read someone recommending every now and then taking a day off and spending it on the sofa under a blanket watching back-to-back MAFS (or whatever you like). I followed this advice once when I was poorly, it was absolute bliss. Sadly my ever-growing to-do list prevents this from happening again. Next time I’m poorly though!

AzureRose · 07/02/2026 00:42

I'm sorry for the waste of the day starting a thread on mums net to try and make people jealous.

Why would anyone be jealous of you or care.

You clearly care, because you’ve taken time out of your busy day to comment 😘

Have a nice rest, you’ll feel chirpier in the morning.

I ended up eating Quavers and Terry’s Chocolate orange for dinner. Told myself my diet was starting in February, but it turns out that was a lie.

I personally didn’t find the LL doc depressing, but that being said I was watching Crimewatch from about the age of 7 so I’m somewhat desensitised to true crime. Give me a horror though and I’d be 💩’ing myself! Back to LL, without spoilers, I found it very surface level and for the most part it was just bringing light to the fact that there are some doubts re: conviction, but it didn’t really dig deep either way.
