(name change as no one knows I gamble irl)

I have been playing online gambling for last 2 years. Usual win is 2k but rarely and usually I’d lose it all again anyway.

have managed to win 300000 euros (it’s a non uk website as I’d previously signed up to Gamstop)… anyway they have slow withdrawal limits which mean
2k/day - max 15k a month

I am so scared I will play through it all again
but this is a life changing amount of money and I hope I can wait it out to withdraw albeit very slowly

That’s interesting, I listened to a radio program about Lucian Freud a while ago which said he got his biggest thrills out of losing money when he gambled richardswsmith.wordpress.com/2017/10/18/understanding-gambling-addiction-for-the-first-time-from-lucian-freud/

i do agree you become numb to winning so I find that really interesting too.

just an update that they have approved the first 6k of withdrawals today (win on Monday, withdrawal request mon, ties and weds at 2k each- max 6k a week).

they have also agreed to double the max monthly withdrawal to 30k (so 2k every 2 days) for December.

my mindset is that I won’t expect to get the full amount but I will request the withdrawals as per their policy and be grateful for anything I get out. I will def not deposit anymore or gamble any of the balance so whatever comes, let it come.

That’s not true. To advertise in the UK you need a UKGC operating licence.

Unfortunately it is true. You can get a UK licence while being based overseas - Gibraltar and Malta are the main places this tends to happen - and most UK blockers do not cover these sites. If you want to educate yourself, listen to All Bets Are Off on BBC Iplayer about the gambling industry in the UK. The second one is about overseas sites like this.

OP, I repeat, Bet Blocker is a good option. This is a dangerous time, and this is exactly why the sites restrict withdrawals - the more you log on, the more opportunities to be tempted. Perhaps think of a time of day when your resolve is higher, or set a limit on time online.

I work at a very senior level in UK gambling so am very well versed in gambling related legislation and regulations both here in the UK and worldwide.

You have misinterpreted the current regulatory landscape.

UK based companies can of course get licensed offshore in places such as Gib and Malta but that doesn’t give them the right to legally advertise in the UK or to take bets from UK residents without also obtaining a UKGC licence. Were they to do so they would be committing a criminal offence.

Any UK consumer transacting under such circumstances is not only facilitating the committing of a criminal offence by the operator but as the transactions are not regulated they have no legal recourse through the courts or regulatory bodies if things go wrong.

In the case of the OP if the operator says they don’t want to pay there is literally nothing she can do to recover the funds. Were it a UK licensed operator there would be recourse through the courts to get paid and the operator could lose their operating licence.

So how is it that sites advertising on UK tv are not blocked by Gam Ban and Gam Stop? There is one I just saw advertising bingo which is not blocked by these.

If that does happen it will be because they’ve not yet been added to Gamban or Gamstop.

There won’t be a single gambling advert on TV that is linked to an operator without a UKGC licence.

Which operator was it that you saw advertising?
