I am a self employed cleaner working in private homes. I see a lot of questions on here about cleaners, so if you have any questions you want brutally honest answers to, ask away 😊

I'm a cleaner too. Have you ever had a customer live like this 😲?

😳 I guess that’s why they need a cleaner 🤗

He wouldn't let us touch these things. Been this way for the last 10 years!

That would a ‘no’ from me.

In a former lifetime I used to work at an estate agents doing viewings. I was showing a couple around a house one time and when I went into the bedroom there was a large suction cup dildo upright on the bedside table. The room was otherwise in perfect show condition, but for the life of me I could not fathom how you could forget to put away the large sex toy. What is the most embarrassing thing you have stumbled across?

Favourite and least favourite things to clean? How much do you charge?

And what kind of gift would you like for Christmas from clients?

I quite enjoy cleaning showers, so satisfying to see them sparkling!
I don't love cleaning ovens
I charge £16-£19hr
Any gift would be very appreciated but I love wine 🍷 🥰

I actually don't think that's too bad! Seen far worse fridges and the microwave is just rusty 😆

Nothing too scarring. Few sex toys, dirty pants and moldy plates but nothing bothers me too much 😆

It's burnt on dried and crusty milk, it smells foul and the fridge has food 2 years out of date but the client won't let us touch any of it. He hasn't changed his bed sheets in 8 years either.

You've seen worse? I don't think my stomach could handle anything worse than the smell of that place tbh😂

@PlatinumEdition mental health issues surely? Must be a biohazard for you just going in there.

Yes, we no longer clean this property, it became too much.

Hello, any recommendations for cleaning showers so you don’t end up wet? How many houses do you clean a day / week? I imagine it must be very tiring.

Ssmiler · 21/12/2025 10:17

Do you always do the full allotted time? My first wonderful cleaner retired just over ten years ago. Since then every single cleaner I’ve had charges for three hours but leaves early.

My house is reasonably big and they’re not expected to do all bedrooms or change beds but there’s always something extra to be done as there is in every house - but instead they leave early. I’ve let so many go because of this, but at this stage I don’t think there’s any point in letting them go as experience tells me that the next ones will do the same.

And yes I have mentioned it to the owner - but it still happens even if she herself is in the team of three (1 hour) or four (45 mins) on the day they come. There are usually four so even if they only leave five to ten minutes early that’s 20 to 40 mins of cleaning I dont get every week.
