14 Stone between us

JointLoser · 31/10/2025 21:20

My DH & I have lost approx 14 stone between us in the last year.

My DH has lost around 8.5st and me around 5.5st.

Probably a boring one, but AMA. I will be going to be in about half hour but will pick it up tomorrow if I get any replies.

I mean well done, but what questions do you expect to be asked?
The obvious one is how did you get so big in the first place?
And don’t get me wrong, I’ve been up to two stone heavier than I am now, but could never imagine being as big as your husband must have been.

TokenGinger · 31/10/2025 21:25

MarshmallowValentine · 31/10/2025 21:27

How old are you both?

We got so big from years of neglecting our health, eating too much of the wrong foods. Far too many take aways and in DHs case lots of snacking as well.

What did you do to lose the weight?

We did start on the WLI, DH did 12 weeks, I did 8 weeks. Stopped for different reasons, but really glad we did. It gave us a really good start to kick the sugar addiction but feel it’s more sustainable but continuing to eat right ourselves.
We have continued by having a calorie deficit diet.
Once we have started, we starting moving more, initially walking, then adding the gym. We now do gym, swim or classes 3-4 times a a week.

Yes I think it has, we both have a lot more energy so finding life more enjoyable. It’s definitely got better and more fun in the bedroom too.

We do some gym sessions together and some separately. I wanted to make sure that I was going to be able to go consistently and that I wasn’t relying on someone else being available for me to go.

That’s actually really inspiring for me personally, thank you. I’m currently on the WLI and kept to a low dose and my hope is that I’ll be able to transition off these, having used it to kick the bad habits, whilst being able to maintain a calorie deficit alone.

Well done to you both x

Thank you and well done you for making a start too. We definitely believe they gave us the kick start we needed and have never been able to manage before but we are very pleased that most of journey has been without them.

I don’t think many people in real life believe that we are not still on the injections and only used them for a short period of time in the early days.

Do you care if other people think you’re still using weight loss injections?

Are you at your goal weights and maintaining, or do you have further weight to lose?

I’d rather people knew we had done the majority on our own as I think people not in the over weight situation see it as the ‘easy option’ but I’m proud of our journey either way.

DH is about at the size he wants to be and is looking more at building muscle in the gym
now. I still have a few stone to go before I can start to think about maintaining.

You have lost all the weight on your own. No one else has lost it for you. It’s a shame you feel that it’s not worth anything if medication was used to support the weight loss. But it’s a common view unfortunately.

That’s not what I said and if it’s between not losing the weight or losing it with WLI, I would take the injections every day of the week. I said I feel it’s more sustainable long term to have continued without them and I feel other people think it’s the easier option. I would always suggest people try them over not starting.

What was your starting weight and what is your weight now?

Congratulations btw - I have put on approx three stone from my last pregnancy :( on a weight loss journey and so far about 1.5 stone down so far - weight loss is hard work so I'm inspired by how much you've lost

Dollymylove · 31/10/2025 22:13

Well done i bet you both feel (an look) much healthier 👏 👍

DH was approx 22st and now around 13.5st - he doesn’t even look like the same person. He’s done so amazingly well and has very little excess skin which is amazing.

I was around 20st and now mid 14’s, I can’t remember the last time I was this weight. It’s left me with a bit of a mum tum but after a c-section I’m sure I’d have that anyway. Good knickers make all the difference 😂

Well done on your loss too! It’s hard work especially at the beginning.
