What's it like? Do you live in a city, suburbs or country? What really stands out for you, compared to your home country?

Coldcafe · 22/09/2025 22:15

Why did you move there? What is the health care like? Can you speak the language? Was it a culture shock for you?

TheKingOfTheCats · 26/09/2025 23:16

I'm of Polish descent myself & would be really interested in this!

We recently had a lovely holiday in Krakow, everything run like clockwork, clean, lovely food, beautiful trips etc, but everybody seemed so grumpy! Or have i read them wrong?

Polish people are traditionally a bit more ...serious you could say...But usually friendly when you know them a bit better.

Also a lot of unfriendliness is a leftover from communist times, in the older generation of service sector imo.

Not to mention there is stress over Putin, for one thing..

Ah ok, glad it wasn't anything we had done!

Yes,there's quite a few reasons...Hopefully things will be more cheerful when the political situation is less tense, whenever that is.

There's unluckily the populist wave sweeping Poland rn, partly bc people are angry about Ukranian refugees & jobs.

@Peasel123 , if you still want to do the AMA...what was your impression of the mood? Did you get any sense of the political situation?

Strawberrryfields · 03/10/2025 18:13

@Peasel123 Are bakeries a really big thing there? Would you get fresh bread, pastries on a daily basis? Is it very different to what you can get here? I’ve heard Poland has a big bakery culture!

What is the education system like?
I know a Polish family who lived here for ten years and moved back. They said their child could not cope with the Polish education system as it is much much tougher. They enrolled their child in an International school.

I moved to Poland for several years in the 80s, and was there when the Berlin Wall fell - I think our experiences would be quite different!

Emptyandsad · 13/10/2025 20:36

It seems quite common for people to start AMA and then not come back. Why do they bother?

Berlinlover · 03/11/2025 15:32

@Peasel123 Is there any particular reason you didn’t return to the thread.

Pollqueen · 03/11/2025 15:44

I visited Poznan with a friend and stayed with his family. I love Poland and would like to explore more
