It’s not totally like ‘The Thick of It’ but bits of it are not too dissimilar.

Who do you work for?

CarlaLemarchant · 25/08/2025 17:50

Which MP?

Navigatinglife100 · 25/08/2025 17:50

Which party

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/08/2025 17:50

Are they as out of touch as the majority come across?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 25/08/2025 17:51

The OP obviously isn't going to say which MP. Can you say which party, OP?

smallsilvercloud · 25/08/2025 17:51

Are you having an affair?

DemandingandUnreasonable · 25/08/2025 17:53

It’s a Labour MP.

My MP is definitely a decent person in it for the right reasons, and not out of touch, but some are.

How many hours, roughly, would you say your MP puts in per week, and what's the breakdown between work in parliament/work for the constituency?

Do they actually care when constituents raise concerns about national issues (as opposed to asking for help) or do they just see this as an irritation?

How much time is spent on self promotion vs actually making life better for people?

No, not with the MP or anyone else!

Being honest, how happy is your MP with how the current government is managing things, and how willing are they to speak up if they don't agree with stuff?

Navigatinglife100 · 25/08/2025 17:55

Do they have a second job or are they full time dedicated to their role as MP

DiscoBob · 25/08/2025 17:58

If you saw a well loved and respected political figure (think HOL) at a fundraiser drinking dozens of alcoholic drinks, then at the end you saw him approaching his car to drive home, would you try and stop him? Would you report him if he drove off?

Is this something you have witnessed?

Also, what's the most annoying part of your job?

And have you witnessed any sexual misconduct among people in politics?

Sorry, four questions. thank you!

Dabberlocks · 25/08/2025 18:00

Do you work in their constituency office or at HP?

The MP tries to have Sunday mornings as family time, but some weeks that doesn’t happen. They are in London Monday-Thursday then working in the constituency Friday-Sunday.

At our team meetings we consider the ‘campaign’ contacts we’ve received and if they need raising with the relevant Government Department. They all get a reply.

In terms of self-promotion, my MP is a bit rubbish at this because it’s not really at the forefront of their mind. We have to make them have a photo for SM and a big stick has to be employed to force them to make videos!

In the spirit of the “we’re sending a message” rhetoric currently doing the rounds - how bothered is your MP flags?

RandomlyGeneratedTriad · 25/08/2025 18:09

Does the MP know that you are doing this thread?

If not, isn't it a bit unethical for their employee to be sharing workplace details here?

And if the MP does know, is it an improper way of seeking to influence Labour's public standing?

myrtleWilson · 25/08/2025 18:10

Are you Westminster or constituency based? If the former, is the HoC jerk chicken as legendary as it is supposed to be?

They have been unhappy with comms, and have also been unhappy with some specifics of policy, which they have raised both with ministers and in the chamber.

Thank you for responding. What sort of responses have they received when they have raised stuff, and have they been satisfied with the answers that they're getting?

We have clear training on this and there are many ways to report or seek help. I would report someone for drink driving, or sexual misconduct, but I haven’t witnessed either.

The worse part of the job is the abuse that we face. It can be frightening when people are screaming at you and we have had threats to kill the staff in the office.

That's terrible about the abuse. What are the main things that the abusive people seem to be so angry about?

Not the OP but can confirm that the HoC jerk chicken is excellent (frequent visitor).

So far it hasn’t really impacted our area. We actually do have a flag in the office though!
