What made you want to get into this line of work?

Honestly I was super put off working in care due to most of my family having a history in it. Seeing how burnt out and miserable they got at times really put me off.

i came to an impasse in my life and decided I wanted to give it a try I always have been told I should work in healthcare and that I’d be great at it so I tried a different sector than my family had (elderly care) and it’s been brilliant. Long shifts but so rewarding and worth it.

How involved in their own “life admin” are your adults?

I teach children with multiple and severe learning disabilities, we spend a lot of time teaching life skills such as washing clothes, hoovering and preparing food and drinks. I just wondered if this continues as adults in a setting such as yours.

I also love my job 😀

That’s lovely! And it depends we have adults with very profound learning difficulties and some who have much less severe so it really depends on that, many of them love the routine of helping to organise, take their own wash basket or hoover but some don’t. We’re very focused on respecting their prefrences.
