I though there might be some people who would like to ask questions for someone who has used weight loss medication to aid weight loss.
I'm age 39, 5ft 2 and I have lost 5st 8lb over the last 14 months (35kg). I'm not quite to target yet, but I expect to be by the end of the year by losing 1lb a week which is my average loss. I'll have lost just over 7st by the end.

Well done.

What happens when you reach your target weight? Do you think that you can maintain without the medication? Does this worry you?

soupfiend · 19/07/2024 20:06

I dont need to ask you any questions but as with anyone who has found a solution that works for them, well done and congratulations.

Its life changing

Hercules12 · 19/07/2024 20:07

No questions but huge well done to you.

What dies it do to your appetite? I'm going to get them, do you eat 3 meals? Can you have the occasional treat like crisps or a glass of wine?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 19/07/2024 20:10

That's the number 1 question I get asked. Honestly? I think I can. I haven't relied solely on the injections. I calorie count, so I know and understand my maintenance calories now. I have joined a gym and go religiously three times a week (prioritising it over pretty much everything else!). I walk as much as possible now. Previously I've lost this same weight, and regained it. But I hadn't made enough lifestyle changes nor did I calorie count properly. I did slimming world, which I now wouldn't bother with as I can make calorie counting work far better. I went through a divorce, and met my current partner which is when the weight started to go back on. I don't forsee any major life changes happening to derail me, but hopefully with the changes I've made I can keep it off this time.

It initially acted as an appetite suppressant. I liken it to will power in a bottle. Or in a pen 🤣. It still works like that, but I know I can over eat if I wanted to (I just dont want to anymore). At first it was basically impossible for me to over eat as I just couldn't manage more than a small portion of lunch or dinner. I can comfortably manage 1200-1300 cals per day. At first it was a struggle to eat more than 1000!
I actually eat 2 meals and 1 snack. I am never hungry in the morning (I take Saxenda daily at bedtime). I eat lunch, dinner and then a snack in the evening. And yes, the snack is often a treat like a Mars ice cream, or some crisps. I just be sure to calorie count it. I can also take it or leave it too, so if I want it, I have it. If I'm not bothered, I can happily leave it - sometime I wasn't able to do before.

Have you suffered any side effects? If so, which one/ones

AltCarbon · 19/07/2024 20:35

How do you get it? Do you need to be a certain BMI to start?

SSHandWC · 19/07/2024 20:35

No questions as I'm on the same medication, just wanted to say well done. It's not effortless, and like you I've made huge changes to my lifestyle which isn't easy.
Keep going !

I haven't had any real side effects. I did get a bit of an over active gag reflex right at the start and I remember choking on my deodorant one day, and then vomiting because of the choking! It didn't last though, and I never had nausea or any other bad side effects.

I obtained it through a private prescription. Initially through Boots Online Pharmacy. When they ran out in December, I had to source it through two different online pharmacies.
I think you have to have a BMI over 30 or 27 with certain health conditions (pre-diabetic, high BP etc) to be prescribed it. My bmi is under 30 now (from 43) but they don't just cut you off. I can still purchase it.

Well done!

Have you been left with excess skin or general sagginess?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 19/07/2024 21:53

No, I already had an overhang from my eldest child's c/s. I was 9st 8 when I got pregnant with him aged 16. Afterwards I had the overhang and no matter my weight, it just stayed. So I guess it might be excess skin as such, but it isn't to do with weight loss.
I'm really lucky in that respect.
