I love all things travel, when I got pregnant at 20 everyone loved telling me my 'travelling days were over'. I love to share tips and tricks with others, so ask anything you want to know!

My 3 year old is also disabled (leg amputee) so if anyone's curious about travelling with a disabled child also, AMA!

In the last 9 months we've been to Bulgaria, Thailand and Malaysia for a month, Paris, Mexico and Devon

Upcoming trips over the next year are Bulgaria, Ireland, Spain, Lapland, Florida, Bahamas, Singapore and Thailand (our fave country!)

Ask away ✈️

Yes how do you afford it?
What does her dad say/think?

And what happens to travelling once school age?

How on earth do you have the annual leave to do all that in a year and income to afford it?

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 27/05/2024 09:29

How did you find the 13- 14 hr flight to Malaysia? Debating it as a destination with my 3 (then 4) year old as decent accommodation seems cheap!

Do you have any recomendations for locations/activites in that area with a little one?

Do you struggle with your child eating in less european places? Are they an adventurous eater?

TakeOnFlea · 27/05/2024 09:45

Ah the bank of mum and dad

lovehatelovehate · 27/05/2024 10:23

Also keen to hear how you afford it, and how you have so much leave. What do you do for work?

'Knew the OP wouldn't be back'

I posted this less than 2 hours ago! Give me chance 😂

No bank of mom and dad I'm afraid. My partner is from a poor country and moved here at 18 alone and I come from an abusive household where I have very little relationship with my family.

Me and my partner own our own business.

We work very hard and are very lucky that we can run the business from anywhere. Now we are parents, my partner deals more with the day to day business side, I stay at home with our disabled child.

It was very obvious this was a travel related AMA from the title, if you're not interested in travel/travel tips etc why click on the thread just to be nasty and make assumptions..

We flew back from Malaysia with ethiad and chose to do a night flight. It was a 9pm so pretty much right at my son's bedtime! We purchased a Plane Pal - an inflatable that goes between the chair and the seat in front of you - so my son was able to lie down. He literally slept the entire way. Although check your airline allows things such as plane pals as some don't

Kuala Lumpur was amazing. Any area within the city is so clean and safe, Uber/grab was very easy to use too and affordable. KLCC park is amazing and it has a big splash part for kids to cool down in. There's also various softplays at the malls too which we enjoyed.

We stayed at Eaton residence - an Airbnb that was a 2 bed apartment. It had a huge infinity pool showing the petronas towers but the pool was freezing 😂 but for less than £100 a night it was unreal

My son is quite a picky eater in terms of Asian food but there was enough choices for him everywhere we went - fish, pasta, pizza etc. I hope with time he'll learn broaden his food cuisines ☺️ definitely recommend Malaysia

My partner comes with us most of the time.

We have our own business.

When he's at school age we will just have to utilise the school holidays. 6 weeks in summer, 2 weeks in Easter, half terms, weekend always etc.

Quite a premature thing to say considering I posted this 2 hours ago. Funnily enough, having a young disabled child means that I have times where I'm occupied for a couple of hours at a time Wink

Yes actually, I was hoping for some nice responses and some questions considering I posted it on the 'AMA' board. The title makes it very obvious it's about travel, if you're not interested then why didn't you scroll along? Smile

Is your DS' travel insurance expensive and do you worry about him needing medical care in a country where you don't speak the language or access to care might be complicated? (e.g. In New Caledonia at the moment the hospitals can barely be accessed by patients and delivery of drugs and equipment because of rioting and ambulance access in and out is limited.)

It's not expensive at all no! Just the same as any other person. He is an amputee but he's been an amputee since he was 1 and no lasting medical needs (apart from the obvious things such as needing a prosthetic) so haven't found its anymore expensive than if my friend was insuring her child.

Pre-toddler I'd definitely go off the beaten track a lot more but we do generally stick to more touristy areas now ie Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Bangkok Phuket Krabi PhiPhi in Thailand etc. we're lucky we haven't needed to use any doctors of hospitals yet and we've always came across plenty of English speakers so never really had much issue with communication however I always try and learn the basics of any country I'm visiting.

Thanks, that's very interesting.

Sorry you've had a hard time op.

Have you read Sarah Tucker's have baby will travel or the toddler sequel?

KarenOH · 29/05/2024 11:39

Well done OP! I must admit I overthink travel massively with a toddler!

Who is your favourite airline for travelling with a small child, especially if you use assisted travel?

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 29/05/2024 11:54

Hats off to you OP, I get stressed on a 2 hour car journey 🤣

Sounds like you've created a lovely life for yourself.
