Does nausea actually correlate to boy/girl?

Curious to hear people's stories.

My nausea was terrible last time, so I was convinced I was having a girl. The nausea became so bad that at one point was physically sick. Was a boy.

This time my nausea is fine, it comes and goes and a couple times been uncomfortable but manageable. Do I assume another boy? Or is this an old wives tale?

My neighbour had severe nausea until week 17 and had a boy..

I think it's an old wives tale.

I had HG with my little boy and was sick once with my little girl.

tpmumtobe · 27/02/2024 22:09

Two boys here. Barely sick at all with first, hideously sick with the second.

Antelopevalleys · 27/02/2024 22:12

it correlates but with anything in life isn’t certain

Facts are women carrying female children often have higher HG levels. Higher HG levels can make someone more prone to morning sickness

I wasn’t sick at all with my daughter but those are the facts

Echobelly · 27/02/2024 22:12

No, I had a boy and a girl and not much nausea either time; my mum had morning sickness the entire 9 months with me and that just turned out to be a problem with the placenta.

The only differences between my pregnancies was that with DS I was really exhausted for the first 4 weeks, which I wasn't the first time, but nothing to do with sex. The second was I had an awful itchy rash with DS for the last 6 weeks - which might actually be sex-related as apparently it's more common with boys because it can be a reaction to the small amount of boy hormones swilling around. When I read that I began to suspect it was a boy, but I'd much rather not have had the rash, it was torture and didn't go away until he was born!

ChanelNo19EDT · 27/02/2024 22:13

Nonsense imo, I felt more nausea with the boy

reclaimmyboobs · 27/02/2024 22:13

I puked merrily through both pregnancies: one boy one girl

LifeExperience · 27/02/2024 22:19

I was sick the same amount with both, a boy and then a girl.

Waterlogged · 27/02/2024 22:19

Throwing up 3x a day in first trimester; having a boy

thaegumathteth · 27/02/2024 22:20

I had hyperemesis with dc1 c30 times day being sick. Boy.

Had mild nausea and sickness with dc2 (sick morning and evening) . Girl.

Mabelzx · 27/02/2024 22:21

For me it was right for both. I had a boy and it wasn’t too bad and was gone by 13 weeks. Then had a girl and it was a lot worse from a lot earlier and lasted until 20 weeks almost. I felt like I just knew she was a girl when I was already being sick at 6 weeks!

Lizzieregina · 27/02/2024 22:21

I had HG all 3 times, 1 boy 2 girls.

Terfosaurus · 27/02/2024 22:23

I had severe nausea all day every day for 9 months. Actually vomited most days for both pregnancies. I have 2 boys.

SallyWD · 27/02/2024 22:47

I had the same level of nausea in both pregnancies - one boy, one girl

Hiddenvoice · 27/02/2024 22:48

I don’t tend to believe it. Both my sils had terrible sickness and one had a boy and the other a girl.
I had some on and off nausea with both my friends bird but wasn’t sick. I also have a ds and a dd.

SometimesIchangemyname · 27/02/2024 22:49

I had twins second time. Twice as nauseous!

Dorriethelittlewitch · 27/02/2024 22:51

I had horrendous sickness and nausea with both. I have a boy and a girl.

JC89 · 27/02/2024 22:54

No correlation for me - I had similar levels of sickness with DS and DD.

Onetwobuckeroo · 27/02/2024 22:54

I had crippling / couldn’t get out of bed (except to be sick 30+ times a day) Hyperemesis Gravidarum with all 3 of my pregnancies. Think it’s an old wives tale.

AdoraBell · 27/02/2024 22:56

My nausea was awful, I couldn’t eat for about 8 weeks. I had twin girls.

I also think it’s an old wives tales about girl/boy.

mondaytosunday · 27/02/2024 22:58

No. I was equally nauseous with both girl and boy. My friend was too (boy and girl), and her other boy not at all.

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 27/02/2024 23:02

That's interesting @Echobelly. I had an awful itchy rash for the last few weeks of pregnancy with DS. No one told me it was a known thing with boys.

On the subject of sickness, it did tally for me. Mild nausea in the first trimester with DD, nothing with DS. But I still think it's an old wives tale.

MotherofAllMatriarchs · 27/02/2024 23:06

It’s not just an old wives tale but it’s also more complicated than ‘girls cause nausea’

We now know that female fetuses generally produce more GDF15. This is the hormone that the Cambridge research team together with researchers from the US and Sri Lanka proved is linked to morning sickness. It’s not as HcG as previously thought. If you Google GDF15 and nausea you can find out more. I’ve heard the lead researchers from US and Cambridge both say that having a female fetus is a risk factor for producing more GDF15.

That said, lots of other factors affect morning sickness too. Like how many pregnancies you’ve had before ie prior exposure to it, your personal sensitivity and any placental abnormalities causing too much GDF15 production which is apparently really common. So it’s totally possible and entirely common that you’d feel more sick with a boy or feel no nausea with a girl, but statistically speaking, if you have one of each you’d be a bit more likely to feel sick with a girl.

So not an old wives tale!

lauramum85 · 27/02/2024 23:11

Have a boy and a girl. Was sick with both, but more sick carrying my son.

MrsHaaland · 27/02/2024 23:18

I've had 3 pregnancies and for me I had nausea with them all but with both boys I threw up a couple of times whereas with my daughter, although I felt just as sick I didnt actually throw up at all.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/02/2024 23:19

HG for 18 weeks in both PG. 1 boy, 1 girl.
