I have always wanted to go there!

Did you go for a particular reason such as weight loss?

How expensive are we talking?

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 26/02/2024 22:59

Did you see any celebs when you were there?

Ugliest · 27/02/2024 20:37

@RogueFemale
Are you coming back? :)

Yes, I mostly went for weight loss. Had no idea of the other benefits the first time.

Last time I went was 10 years ago, around £7,000 for a month - but - that's with minimum of the 'extra treatments'. I learnt after the first two times that many weren't worth the extra expense.

I'd guess a lot more expensive 10 years on.

No, I saw nobody famous.

How much weight did you lose in a month and did you feel great when you left?

RogueFemale · 27/02/2024 22:38

@Getabloominmoveon Effortlessly lost a stone in a month. When you leave you are literally glowing with health, your skin is radiant, you have never looked that good ever. They give you tons of vitamins (and intravenous B12 if you pay extra) and one of the main things is every morning a dose of 'Glaubersalz' which basically flushes out your whole digestive tract.

Food is tiny and organic and exquisite like in a Michelin restaurant.

There's a saline swimming pool, a sauna with salt walls, a steam room.

The masseurs are incredible.

But as I said before, you can limit the cost by choosing the extra treatments wisely. You are assessed by a doctor when you arrive, and they give you a program of treatments - add ons to your already expensive room stay - but these aren't compulsory, you can say you don't want XYZ. This is what I did the third time when I knew what the treatments were and whether they were worth the money (many not - but that's no criticism, just I'm not that rich so was choosy).

Off to google and come back, sounds amazing just from a few posts.

Did you feel it was worth that price tag? What is it buying that you can’t get from DIY/ ‘normal health services’?

Yes, worth the money. It's hard to pin down what they do that you can't DIY or get elsewhere. It's not a low-calorie diet/yoga place nor boot-camp, it's not like anywhere else. It's about regulating your digestive tract, - that is the Mayr method. It's more 'medical' than other places, they have doctors, they take a blood test, etc.

I can only say that if I had ££ to spare right now I would be back there like a shot. I think that's why I posted this thread, as I've been thinking so much about can I afford to go back...

Is this the place where you drink Epsom salts? Is it as bulimic as it sounds, or is there more to it?

They give you Glaubersalz, which flushes out the digestive tract (via the bowel/anus). This is achieved within a few days. You can elect to have however many calories to eat per day as you wish, but the menu doesn't include any sugar and is just wholesome organic foods.

If you take it, be prepared to need the loo for at least three hours thereafter (especially on the first day or two).

OP posts:
RogueFemale · 27/02/2024 23:29

They have special Swiss loos at Mayr which spray your butt with warm water instead of having to wipe. Which is good.

I used to be a heavy laxative user as a teen - can recommend Vaseline with your toilet roll.
