Spontaneous breech delivery - AMA

I had a spontaneous breech delivery and wondered if anyone would like to ask questions or need some reassurance that it's not as terrible as it can be made out to be!
My lead midwife told me afterwards that it was the first breech delivery she had done and from what I can tell, a vaginal breech delivery is quite rare so if you have any questions please ask!

Was it a planned breech delivery or unidentified breech? DC1 was breech and I was immediately booked in for CS, no option to try for vaginal delivery, perhaps it depends on the hospital.

Baby had been transverse/breech throughout pregnancy but was head down (not engaged) at my final scan and mw appointment. He turned at some point between my last appointment and labour, I think it may have actually been during labour.
The first we knew was when my waters broke and he pooed into the midwife's hand!

This thread is perfect timing for me! I’m 37w1 with no. 3 and baby is breech, and I’m considering declining the c-section and going for a breech delivery. If you can tell me a bit more about your labour, any differences between how it works vs. a normal breech delivery, how the midwives coped, how risky it was etc. I would be really grateful! Thanks!

Hi! I'd already made the decision that I would have a c section if baby hadn't turned as I just couldn't face the thought of the ecv or a vaginal birth but if I'd have known how the labour, delivery and recovery would be I would have chosen vaginal!
My first was 2 hours of hardcore pushing but she was tangled in her cord, ended up with a spinal block, forceps, episiotomy and feeling very battered afterwards!
With this one I was fully dilated when I got to hospital and he was born within 3 contractions once my waters broke. First contraction was bum and a leg, 2nd got him out to his neck and the 3rd he was out! I did tear and had a few stitches but nothing like last time and just had gas and air throughout.
My midwives were amazing and a consultant came in at the end. The midwives told me afterwards it had been their first breech deliveries but they were so good and didn't seem phased at all.
I hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions!

I've had one too, and definitely not as bad or risky as they are made out to be (as long as you have a frank breech). Just don't let anyone try to speed up the birth or interfere with it.
