I do not mean material things when I ask this but which was most enjoyable to live in? Was there more of a sense of community in one than another etc etc

Howeverdoyouneedme · 08/02/2023 13:26

Where were they?

C1N1C · 08/02/2023 13:32

Did you start high and end low or vice versa? What happened in your life to enable that transition?

ApocalypseNowt · 08/02/2023 13:36

Which towns/cities were these?

What was the biggest difference in terms of community?

lornmower · 08/02/2023 14:10

@fantasmagoria1 the affluent area was pleasant to live in as the deprived area was incredibly rough - people I barely know shameless asking me to lend them money until their dole money came through, bitten by a Rottweiler and nonsense like people accusing me of blocking them in with my car just to create drama... there was much worse than this also ..

@Howeverdoyouneedme - affluent area is provincial UK city - deprived area is deprived coastal uk town

What, if anything, did they have in common?

lornmower · 08/02/2023 14:18

@C1N1C - started high and ended low. What caused this is when I lived in deprived area I was in a bad place psychologically- someone recommended it to me and I took it unthinkingly without properly checking it out. Looking back I think I had a sort of functional depression at the time - where I could do the basics in life like work, get bills paid, do cleaning etc but very little outside of this - so a low quality of life, really

@Findyourneutralspace - things they have in common is there are scum in both areas, and straightforward, decent, people in both areas

@ApocalypseNowt
Without being too identifying - affluent area is a provincial UK city about the size of Leicester. Deprived area is a deprived coastal UK town where people with problems gravitate towards.
Biggest difference in terms of community is in the affluent area there are more longstanding residents who've lived there for years so you feel like you really know them

@fantasmagoria1 - to be perfectly honest - there wasn't much of a sense of 'community' in either place although in the deprived area they had no shame in asking strangers for money !

I've lived in both, in and around Glasgow

The affluent area had more burglary crime. The deprived one had more assaults. Both areas had resident drug and alcohol abusers. We had great neighbours and a lively community life in both areas.

The smarter and more successful neds and crooks in the deprived area sometimes moved house to the more affluent area......just like we had.

Thanks for answering OP. I grew up in Blackpool so no stranger to deprived coastal towns!

lornmower · 08/02/2023 15:30

@2bazookas - thanks for sharing your experiences - interesting about different crimes in different areas

@ApocalypseNowt - ah you're welcome - thanks for your question! When I went on hols in Blackpool as a child used to think it was an affluent town - but now you do definitely hear of the deprivation there
