I was under the impression you cannot stay all year round and need a permanent address? Do you have children?

I think this may be the case with a lot of places.

I do have children but they moved out before I moved here.

Are you allowed to live there 52 weeks a year? My ex did this in a static but he wasn't allowed to have it as an official address.

Can you get mail and deliveries?
Do you pay council tax?

CherrySocks · 24/11/2022 17:10

i) Where does the waste go when you empty the cannister?
ii) What are the advantages over living in a flat or very small house/bungalow?

Do you have a job, either outside the home or WFH? Are you living in a caravan to get away from it all and escape the ties of a lease or mortgage?

I don't have a job at the moment and am signed off sick after a recent diagnosis of an autoimmune disease but have worked whilst living here - no different to leaving any other home to start the working day.
Kind of to get away from the ties of a lease - I've had some pretty shocking experiences in private rentals.

Is it really free choice, you could afford to live in decent bricks and mortar, but prefer to live in a caravan?

Yes, I live here all year around. I get mail/deliveries, it is my official address.

Do you have any private outside space? How is it heated?

i) Into the sewage system
ii) Less cleaning, less financial out-goings.

do you own or rent the land it’s on? Is there electricity connected?

Totally free choice.

I always want to do this but feel like it’s hard work. Same with the narrow boats near my house, sounds idyllic but hard.

is there loads of maintenance all the time.

Tiny2018 · 24/11/2022 17:19

I lived in a static in my early twenties- it was by far the best time of my life, I absolutely hate living in a house, but when I fell pregnant with my first had to leave as all the sites closed Nov/Dec to March and it wasn't fair to bring a baby into that type of instability.

I envy you OP, though I do think a tourer wouldn't be quite big enough for me. I aim to retire back to the coast in a static 😊

Windbeneathmybingowings · 24/11/2022 17:21

Again though even in a static. It’s so much hard work. My mums was lovely but she’d always be fixing antennae or getting something “done”. The decking alone was maintenance.

A bit of private space, not wonder about naked private but enough!
Heated by central heating with can be either run on gas or electricity.

Is it part of being a minimalist?

(I'm in a Facebook group about de-cluttering and quite a few of the women are minimalists in the USA and dream of moving/have moved into a Tiny House or mobile home)

NoSquirrels · 24/11/2022 17:24

Whose land are you living on?

Autumnalleavestime · 24/11/2022 17:25

Is it in someone’s garden? I see this quite often on Facebook, people with caravans offering it to rent.

also is it someone you know or are related to’s garden?

Artygirlghost · 24/11/2022 17:30

Unless I am missing something it sounds like you or a relative own the land that your caravan is on or you would not be able to call it and use it as your permanent address.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 24/11/2022 17:48

Are you on a site with electric or on someone's land?

My ex said the site fees were extortionate and he wasn't legally allowed to be there 52 weeks a year

RobertsRadio · 24/11/2022 18:12

Do you think you will stay there for good, into old age?

Also where do you do your laundry, is there a laundromat on site?

Dadof5gremlins · 24/11/2022 18:29

Hell yes I would love to do the same. But with 5 gremlins I would need a double decker bus lol. 🚌

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 24/11/2022 18:32

Hi OP. How do you stop your belongings getting damp in the winter? We holiday in a rental caravan and I love it but there is always that faint smell of damp in the furnishings.

caravanlife · 24/11/2022 18:40

We're in one temporarily, been here since October, they are so hot 🥵 struggling sometimes to get it below 22 degrees 🤣

Blisterlip · 24/11/2022 20:38

Our friends loved in one before they built their house. It was so so cosy and they had it done really nicely

Autumnalleavestime · 24/11/2022 20:53

Op are you coming back? Why did you start this. Whose land are you living on and why are you in that caravan really? Who owns the caravan?
