Are more of them "suddenly" realising they're "born in the wrong body" so they can be transferred to the Women's estate (which is a much easier ride)? What tests or investigations are done when they declare that they're "really" women?

Do you believe the culture and of prisons and training of prison staff is conducive to genuine rehabilitation? (Not pension staff in custody actual prison staff).
What are your views on the recent changes to the parole process?

I don't really work on that side of things , genuinely people will either return to prison or be discharged by the courts. I'd say people can spend a lot longer with us than their original sentence there's no time limit how long people can be in hospital for. I think we are good at rehabilitation work we do a lot of therapeutic work whether it works I don't know. Generally we don't see them again as they usually go elsewhere if needed to be admitted again.

Have you ever met a psychopath or someone with a personality disorder?

Lots of times 🤣 too many to count.

No you can't as that would be seen as favouritism and not good practice . I do have my favourites everybody does but of course I hide it.

I've seen a few trans people generally they aren't moved to female services and vice versa. As many have a history of trauma and being assaulted.

If you don't mind me butting in... I'm a prison nurse
There is one local prison which has a dedicated Therapeutic community - focused on rehabilitation, self reflection and ownership, accountability, responsibility, around 200 of the total 1250 beds
For the rest of the prison population- not so much

Yes our beds probably cost a fortune compared to a standard prison bed.

Has there ever been any points where things the offender has told you has made you angry with them / at what they did?

What do you think the ideal system of dealing with serial paedophiles would be? I'm specifically talking about the ones gaming the system so they can get back out and most likely try to reoffend. What do you think would be the ideal way of dealing with them.

Do you shake their hand when greeting for the first time to build a rapport

No no way. I say hello I don't really touch my patients at all apart from performing physical observations or interventions. I will if someone has severe learning disabilities, lacks capacity severely or is pallative but in a forensic role when someone has capacity no. There's chances of allegations, I'm a female and some patients might take that as an opportunity to push boundaries.

I'm not a psychologist so I don't go into depth with them about their offences. We do talk about their offences in some sessions , many are closed off don't want to talk about it. We will talk about their risks etc many will say they are rehabilitated especially if they have capacity. One in particular wasn't remorseful about their murder at all and says he would do it again, he has been in prison and services for a very long time he will die in sevices. Some without capacity will say inappropriate things about their offences but they won't ever leave.

Are you a woman? Do you ever worry one of them will become obsessed with you? Or have I watched too many criminal mind type programs?!

Well I know probation have a system of monitoring their internet usage/computer usage /phone access so they cannot access things, or gain contact with other sex offenders. I think this is useful having MAPPA plan being unable to go near children avoiding places in school holidays or the school run. Some sex offenders I've known with care needs have 24/7 supervision in the community but that would be expensive. They should be engaging in psychotherapy and checking they are taking prescribed medication.

I think things fall through the net but good robust probation and MAPPA plans is the way to go.

I have one who has become obsessed with me but on the scale of who I have met he's pretty harmless. He's not allowed unsupervised leave outside and he will be housed away from me when he's discharged. I never share too much about myself anyway my social media is locked down and I don't share the area I live or much about my private life. I did get creeped out once when one was talking about my car and number plate but they are banned from having internet access or supervised so they couldn't look up my car details. I did raise that with my supervisor.
