As the title says. Any questions I'd be happy to answer!

@CPL593H they can 'describe' themselves as priests, as you have stated

Alexisrose16 · 02/09/2022 23:50

How do you deal with biblical teachings that you may actively disagree with?

I don't disagree with any of them, mainly because I've done the theology, also studied Biblical Hebrew, Greek and Latin and know that many of the verses which are used as weapons are contextual, wrong translations, interpreted wrong or merely metaphorical, poetical etc.

However as a new Christian I definitely wrestled but I did my own research and then embarked on this journey.

@CPL593H it's really not. Anglicanism is vicar or minister. Catholicism would be priest and not female

I appreciate and am guessing you are RC which is completely fine if so. However, my documents, discernment forms and so forth have the job title "training for full time stipendiary priest" and, as such, I shall be ordained by my bishop as such.

My specialism is actually demonology and deliverance ministry.
Can you explain what this is?

humanwinginglife · 03/09/2022 00:00

Smilingwithfangs - it is very much personal choice. I have colleagues who like to be referred to as Mother or Father, others Rev, others simply by their first name and nothing more etc

How do you justify the CofEs stance on same sex relationships being sinful and their insistence that priests in same sex relationships be abstinent?

xxcatcatcatxx · 03/09/2022 00:00

🫣😰 Do they overhype it for the movies? How much do they charge to have your house blessed or for a person? This is terrifying xxx

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 03/09/2022 00:01

You are mistake. I am CofE, we have two priests no vicars. My church is high church.

heidbuttsupper · 03/09/2022 00:01

@humanwinginglife but you're not a female priest, as your title implies. To state you are training to be a 'female priest' is incorrect

I don't justify it. Also, I'm in the CiW whom are, but still have a long way to go, generally affirming of same sec relationships. The recent synod gave way to same sex blessings in church - but granted this is not enough.

I guess exorcism is the best way to describe it in a secular sense. But Hollywood have overhyped that.

If you are coming at this from an RC perspective, you will know that the Pope is also titled "the Vicar of Christ", so the OP changing her job description to vicar would be pretty meaningless in those terms.

There should never be any charge and it is absolutely overhyped. I know an exorcist who was in that ministry for over 20 years. He was called out many many times. He only ever had 2 occasions of actual possession and only a handful of oppression in all that time. It is Beth usually psychological or scientific in nature.

Hello OP. People who have become religious ministers usually talk about feeling a 'calling' to the ministry - what form did your calling take? Was it a sudden thing, or gradual?

I'm sorry, how is that? My title says I'm a young woman training to be a priest - of which I am! Sorry if that offends you.

Could you describe it (if you can I have no idea what you mean really) in a non-secular sense?

heidbuttsupper · 03/09/2022 00:07

@humanwinginglife thankfully, priests would not entertain such ideology of 'demons' and 'exorcisms'

Millie2008 · 03/09/2022 00:10

What we're your experiences that confirmed your calling?

Hello OP. People who have become religious ministers usually talk about feeling a 'calling' to the ministry - what form did your calling take? Was it a sudden thing, or gradual?

Phew! At the worry of coming across very strange I will answer this question as honestly as I can.

It happened very gradually and I guess my first true calling (but I didn't realise back then) was at 17 (my daughter was 1 year old) and I randomly, in a trance like state (I know this sounds crazy, I promise I'm not!) I typed into Google 'how to become a priest' then wondered why on earth I had typed that and thought there was something wrong with my phone.

A year later I became a Christian after an experience in a church which I didn't in all honesty want to be at. I attended church after that.

A couple years later I started looking at my then priest and having a leaping feeling like "that's what I'm meant to do". Strange occurrences started happening after that and then people started saying things such as "you'd be a brilliant priest" etc....

Then another experience happened which was quite otherworldly and then I explored it and went through the discernment process finally Smile

As you seem to have firm opinions on Anglican terminology and the role of priests, can I respectfully ask what denomination you belong to?

I'd be highly interested at this point, if you don't mind me asking of course, what your religion is? Please feel free not to answer. However, as a Christian, it seems ludicrous (and this is just my opinion) to believe in God and good and not the Devil and evil. Unfortunately for me, I have experienced evil and spiritual beings, I wish I hadn't but I have. Is that invalid? Am I lying in your eyes?

Antarcticant · 03/09/2022 00:14

I see, so your calling was in stages - a series of 'nudges' - that's really interesting - thank you for your detailed answer, and best wishes for your training.

Supernatural occurrences. The paranormal. Hope that helps!

Op I've just read the book 'Demonic Foes' written by a leading psychiatrist. I don't know if you've read it but it was very good and non - Hollywood - ey .

He also said what you have just stated in terms of it mostly being mental illness etc but there are cases which aren't and he works closely with priests who perform exorcisms.

They come to him first in order to eliminate psychological first.

I grew up in a haunted house and I now understand what that meant and that I don't believe in ghosts anymore now I'm a Christian. I think you probably know what I mean!

Like you I came to faith in my early 20's ( I'm 50 now ) and it was partially to do with that experience growing up and also I began to see the Lord in everything that was good in this world.

God bless you in your future journey and Thank you for this thread, I too had no idea that women could be called priests but a priest you will be! 😊
