Thank you OP for replying. Much appreciated. Do you think it's worth re-doing the last 3 years papers again over the 2 weeks. She has already done them once each at various times in the last few weeks. It's because a mum said she was advised by her daughter's tutor to do this(we do not have a tutor) or is it better to spend the limited time doing fresh questions and going over her weaker areas? Thank you

Do you think that some people just ‘get’ the non-verbal reasoning and others just don’t.
Its almost impossible to teach?
This is coming from a professional/fellow teacher and tutor.

I only ever redo questions as corrections. I think it's much better to use new materials if you can, as it will prepare her to use the skills she has in lots of different ways and develop those weaker skills without thinking, 'here's that question I never get right'.

I love teaching NVR!

Some people are naturals. I am not really, so had to learn how to tackle them. You definitely can teach technique and systematic approach. I do it on almost a daily basis.

Hello. My daughter did well in her 11 plus CSSE exams and we are considering Colchester County High School for Girls. Can anyone tell me if you have had any experience of this school, with its pros and especially it's cons. Thank you

How do you choose & find a good tutor?

I'm not familiar with that school. It may be worth looking at the Eleven Plus parents forum as it has sections for each area.

Ask around at the school gates or local parent facebook groups for personal recommendations.

Most tutors will be happy to have a chat on the phone or email to answer your questions. Ask about their track record and their approach.

I always offer a one off no obligation paid trial session to ensure we are both happy to proceed. Beware of tutors who offer free sessions or free assessments - there's possibly a reason their books aren't full.

I am seeking an online tutor (no one available locally). The test is GL Verbal Reasoning and maths.

I have two DC, the first DS worked hard is very motivated and got into a top London school. My DD is at a top London girls school and in year 5, it is very hard to get into the senior school at her school but if they are in the junior school they generally get a place unless they tell you otherwise. She does well and gets glowing reports and top marks but compared to my DS at the same stage she is leagues behind as the school isn't teaching for 11 plus, should I give her a push so she isn't behind in year seven?

SuperGinger · 30/04/2023 08:47

She will stay at her school and won't sit for others
