To my embarrassment, I did a stint as a younique rep in 2018.

Feel free to ask away Grin

I am no longer affiliated with them and stopped being a presenter after about 8 months when I saw the light.

I am now anti MLM.

What made you stop?

RaisedByPangolins · 10/11/2021 15:35

Did you ever post on FB etc about having a new car or holiday knowing full well it wasn’t true? And if so did you feel bad for duping your friends?

(Not judging btw, I know it’s all part of the scheme, just wondering how you square that with yourself). Glad you’re out of it now.

nervousseacreature · 10/11/2021 15:36

Did you lose any friends over it?

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 10/11/2021 15:36

Did you make a profit or loss overall?

Noeuf · 10/11/2021 15:37

What was your minimum sell that you had to make per month and how much of that did you pay yourself?

PeterPomegranate · 10/11/2021 15:38

When you started what attracted you to MLM / Younique vs other ways of earning money?

Was there anything that you could averted you from getting involved in the first place that could help others now?

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 10/11/2021 15:44

@PPCD

What made you stop?
The pressure to post on Facebook so often about every aspect of my life in order to gain interaction from Facebook friends as an opening into their inbox to ultimately swerve every conversation to business. Basically made me become a fake friend to everyone. Every friendship had an ulterior motive. Every friend became a potential customer target.

Did any of your friends try to talk you out of it? You did really well getting out after 8 months, so many people stay in for much longer, as their uplines tell them the money is just around the corner.

Personally no. I never did any big lies like that although know lots of others that have and continue to do so.

Someone I know has been posting frequently about her new house that she's worked her arse off to pay for the deposit for the mortgage on. It's housing association. Big lie.

I don't think so.

Did you make any money?

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 10/11/2021 15:48

@MrsMcCluskeysCat

Did you make a profit or loss overall?
Definitely a loss. You're encouraged to buy new products that are released. Even if I couldn't afford them I'd make excuses toyself about how it was justified because how could I sell a product I can't showcase. So would put it on credit card etc to keep up with up lines. I'm now in an iva. This definitely contributed to my debt

@Noeuf

The minimum you have to sell to keep your business open is £125 per month I think.

As you move up the ranks to the next colour status, the amount needed to remain that status increases.

It was made to look like you could make loads of money by just building friendships. The more friends you have the more makeup you sell. Easy to work round having a baby and being a SAHM. the reality of this couldn't be further from the truth.

I think only one friend made it clear to me that I was daft for joining but it was done in a light hearted way and I didn't take it as her talking me out of it. She was shocked I'd done it. But left me to it and I knew not to try and recruit her.

How much did you make (or lose) and how many hours per week (roughly) did you devote to work?

FranceTeam · 10/11/2021 15:54

Did you like any of the products, or are they overpriced, rubbish ?

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 10/11/2021 15:58

@PlaymobilMania

How much did you make (or lose) and how many hours per week (roughly) did you devote to work?
I couldn't put a figure on the profit/loss margins. I didn't declare it, there was a definite loss. I have an iva and my credit card debt definitely increased due to pressure to buy the products for my own stock/use.

Many many hours if I think about it. Every waking moment on my phone on fb, commenting, interacting, private messaging, scouring fb groups for other women that might look like good candidates. Looking for fellow SAHM that can't afford nursery fees as they're more likely to join something where they can WFH on their phone. My DD was a baby at the time and I feel like I missed so much of her first year because my phone was always in my hand. Every waking minute was spent thinking how can I make this cute moment with my baby into a fb post to get more likes etc

This image shows the requirement for each colour status. I got to pink.

Thankyou for this OP! Several people on my list have been sucked in and as soon as they started they were over the top smiley and chatty on the school run.. liking my posts when they didn't before.. it's so fake and gives me a yuck feeling.

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 10/11/2021 16:33

@CookPassBabtridge that's exactly why I stopped. I just felt like I was pretending to like people. I felt so fake and it make me cringe. Literally sold my soul to the devil. I wasn't myself around people, I was trying so hard to like everyone and be everything to everyone because one day they might "work for me"

Noeuf · 10/11/2021 18:47

Thank you. So sell £125 retail value (like 10 £12.50 mascaras) each month? Did you tip that up yourself? It’s so addictive I imagine.

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 10/11/2021 20:31

Yes £125 worth of anything. A mascara is over £20 and a foundation over £30. When you're say a tenner away from target it's so easy to just top it up yourself.

OP posts:
PinkPlantCase · 10/11/2021 20:48

Is there anything anyone could have said that would have helped you stop sooner?

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 10/11/2021 20:56

And also the way it works, you have a certain amount of days to hit certain targets and if you do manage to hit those targets within certain time frames, you get bonuses of extra cash or bundles of makeup.

You can't get to the pink level without recruiting people that actively sell. As you'll see from the image above, to get to pink you have to sell £250 worth personally but your downline team as a whole has to sell £1000 for you to get pink.
