Not a question but just wishing you good luck. I am 5 years post op in November, no regrets but it's not easy, really struggling with weight creeping back on.

Up to 2 years post op I was on such a high and thought my life had changed forever but it was too good to be true (for me)

VsgKitt · 10/10/2021 13:58

I'm sorry you are struggling

I'm under no illusion that this is magic but having been stuck at 17 stone+ for years I hope that it will be easier to maintain long term than to try and lose 7 stone without intervention.

I will never get to that size again. My attitude to food is already vastly different

A friend of mine had this done and is a completely different person food wise. She’s careful about what she eats rather than shovelling any old crap in there, which is what I do. Previously she’d have the full three courses in a restaurant plus sides, but not anymore.

Yeah I went for a carvery a few days ago. I mostly had beef, cabbage and carrots, a spoonful of mash.

Previously my plate would have looked like Snowdon with 3 or 4 Yorkshire puds and a fudge cake after!

Really makes you realise how much we overeat in general.

You can see the Dr as many times as you wat for follow ups but obviously would have to travel. My follow up meds and bloodtests have been covered by the NHS, which is a tiny price compared to the £12k operation they were going to do when I eventually hit the top of the waiting list.

Hi I had my sleeve 3 weeks ago. Well done on your weight loss. This thread has been quite positive which is lovely. Just commenting to say surgery is definitely not the easy way out, you still have to be really disciplined and it really is a huge mental journey. So extra well done op. It's good to see you're tolerating most foods. That's why I went for the sleeve in in my 30s so wanted to be able to eat normally but smaller portions.

Also just to let op and others know we have a bariatric surgery support thread going which might be helpful

Neonplant · 12/10/2021 09:16

Sorry I just read my comment back. I was saying it wasn't the easy way out to other posters not op. You obviously know this!

VsgKitt · 12/10/2021 10:06

Oh it's not easy. But no one has asked about that 😂

It's definitely difficult mentally, as a binge/ emotional eater, but it's put a tool in place for me to deal with it physically. For me the head hunger is worse.

Yes definitely a tool. Maybe people don't think it's easy and I'm just being defensive! Grin

I'm starting to work out the difference with head hunger and real hunger. I'm also learning I often want to eat as a sensory thing so I'm enjoying him made slush, ice pops and low calorie ice lollies as I'm not actually hungry just would normally eat or want to crunch something. Especially feeling this on the puree stage!

This is exactly my issue, and having done SW (very “successfully”) about 4 years ago, because my life was on an even keel, only to totally lose control of my eating when I had a traumatic time due to my dad becoming ill, I know I need a physical barrier to stop me overeating, whilst I learn to deal with the head stuff by a means other than food.

If only it was as simple as “eat less move more”!

VsgKitt · 12/10/2021 13:59

That's me.

In the last year I lost the same 14lbs three times. I would be in a good headspace, eat well, and then get depressed and gain it back.

This stops me from doing that. I have ZERO choice. Which in itself is difficult mentally but it's better than the alternative which is fail myself over and over.

I cannot binge and in complete honesty I don't want to. Having a small amount of something is enough now.

There's no way I would have lost 3 stone on my own.
I still have down days. I still have depression but I can't eat myself to death anymore.

Hi, can I ask how you’re getting on now? I’m looking into going to Turkey for a gastric sleeve
