As the title says....just that really. Just in case anyone is interested given the current climate etc.

Are you suspicious of big pharma

JoyOrbison · 03/06/2021 18:41

How many 'major illness' cures do you have which can't be used due to massive side effects?

Eg a friend works at a testing site, they are handling a cure for some cancers but the side effect is it rots the brain. They say its so frustrating to see they are so close yet so far!

pharmamarma · 03/06/2021 18:43

@JoyOrbison no I don't

@Raindropumbrella sorry that last answer was for you

pharmamarma · 03/06/2021 18:46

@JoyOrbison I don't work in R&D specifically but as a company we do manufacture some great drugs that treat cancers. We also create a lot of medications that treat rare diseases. But I'm sure that our R&D Centres have similar issues as your friend.

Thanks for your reply op.

Do you find there is a huuuuuge profit margin or is it not as inflated as media often suggests?

pharmamarma · 04/06/2021 09:37

@JoyOrbison yes there is a huge profit margin mostly.

The money within this industry is crazy, money is not scarce at all.

Assuming you are UK based, how do you think Brexit will affect (or is already affecting) things like regulatory approvals, good manufacturing and clinical practices, etc? How is your supply chain holding up?

pharmamarma · 04/06/2021 10:16

@EversoDelighted we are global, and yes it has had so many affects but we were prepared in advance which helped. We had to change a lot of lead times and even now we are still have trouble with deliveries etc. This then affects testing schedules and many other processes/operations which can delay batches inevitably (which is what we don't want!)

OP posts:
EversoDelighted · 04/06/2021 10:20

Yes, same in my industry (related but not pharma), lead times much longer for many things now.

pharmamarma · 04/06/2021 10:49

@EversoDelighted it's crazy. And it's having effects (in some way) in every country we are based in to be honest!

OP posts:
EversoDelighted · 04/06/2021 10:59

Sometimes its just the most seemingly trivial thing which is delayed but as you say, that can have a huge knock on effect.

Aprilwasverywet · 04/06/2021 11:01

Not sure why I saw your title as top pyjama company..
Blush

Horehound · 04/06/2021 11:01

Is it GSK you work for?
I used to work for them. Loved it.

bizzieb33 · 04/06/2021 11:02

What was your educational pathway to your current role? Degree choices etc

pharmamarma · 04/06/2021 11:02

OP posts:
pharmamarma · 04/06/2021 11:03

Is the future of therapy in biopharmaceuticals? Have small molecules had their day?

How much do you earn? Grin

LadyGAgain · 04/06/2021 11:08

Were your company involved in the covid vaccine rollout. How was it developed so quickly (eternally grateful BTW)?

safariboot · 04/06/2021 11:09

What's your general job role? (Eg HR, marketing, law, R&D, etc.)

How's available funding like for you?

And what about other areas? Are some divisions constantly having to beg for funds while others are awash with cash?

KaptainKaveman · 04/06/2021 11:10

How do you feel about the US mass addiction to synthetic opioids which were specifically peddled by the pharmacos?

pharmamarma · 04/06/2021 11:14

@bizzieb33 I have a microbiology degree.

@NoviceGardenLady I earn over 64k

@LadyGAgain I can't be specific but yes in a way.

@safariboot...to be general I'm in Quality. the money is everywhere/not really restricted. Although we try to tighten purse strings at times.

I’m betting it’s Takeda given cancer and rare disease specialities.

I’m very surprised you describe the profit margins as huge given the difficulties in securing reimbursement in rare diseases especially in the U.K. do you struggle with reimbursement? And does that impact your view on profit margins?

GettingUntrapped · 04/06/2021 11:17

Got any jobs? Writing, comms..?

pharmamarma · 04/06/2021 11:19

@PegasusReturns I was being very general and speaking about pharma on a whole. Yes it's a profitable industry.
I'm not going to be specific about where I work. That wouldn't be very professional.
