So it worked then?!
Have you lost weight?
Is it just chocolate or also chocolate flavoured things (chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream etc)?

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 20/11/2020 16:32

Oh wow. I would love to do this. Did it work? Was it expensive? Did you lose weight?

TerrifiedandWorried · 20/11/2020 16:32

Does it every make you sad that you can't have it anymore?

GinandGingerBeer · 20/11/2020 16:36

How much were you eating?
(Asking for a friend Wink)

BestOption · 20/11/2020 16:44

@GinandGingerBeer

How much were you eating? (Asking for a friend Wink)
🤣🤣🤣

Do you think it would work to make you DO something rather than not do something?

  • drink 4 litres of water a day
  • do x exercise

Better still do you think it could make you ENJOY something?

  • enjoy cooking
kindnessiseverything · 20/11/2020 17:21

Apparently, hypnotherapy works with pretty much anything, as long as the person wants it to work.

So, if a smoker was being pestered by family and friends to give up smoking, but didn't really want to give up, then hypnotherapy would probably not work.

Have you lost weight? No, but I wasn't overweight in the first place.
Is it just chocolate or also chocolate flavoured things (chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream etc)? Anything chocolate. Chocolate milk drink, chocolate sprinkles on a cappuccino, chocolate sauce on top of a cheesecake.

Was it expensive? My first session was, I think, £150 and the second session was £80.

Does it every make you sad that you can't have it anymore? Nope. Not sad at all.

How much were you eating? Sometimes 3/4/5 bars a day (not family size ones but the usual newsagent-shelf size).
And in secret. Hidden in coat pockets. Hidden in the glove box of my car. Hidden in the laundry basket.

Do you think it would work to make you DO something rather than not do something? Definitely.

What was it like

Did you know you were hypnothesed.

Can you remember what it was like when you were

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 20/11/2020 17:39

Did you notice the change straightaway? And how simple is it. Do you just not want to eat chocolate anymore?

celticmissey · 20/11/2020 17:51

Well done OP!

I am a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and yes it is brilliant for weight loss and weight management. One of my clients went from eating 3 bars of chocolate a day in one week, then after one hypnotherapy session to eating 1 bar of chocolate in a week, then no chocolate the week after so ladies it does work. All of my clients have lost weight and have kept if off.

Basically we guide a client into deep relaxation. Hypnosis is only focused concentration. Then in that state we can work with the subconscious (where our behavioural patterns are held) and through imagery and suggestion we can reprogram thought patterns so you gain control by the conscious mind and subconscious mind working together on the same thing.

Hypnotherapy will never "make" you do anything you don't want to and when you are in focused concentration even though your eyes are closed you know what is going on.

Highly recommended by me (I'm biased of course)

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 20/11/2020 17:58

I would really like to do this. I'm a binge eater and cant stop. How accessible is it at the moment?

idril · 20/11/2020 18:00

Do you eat no chocolate at all now or is it a case of being able to eat it when you want but being able to just have a small amount?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/11/2020 18:06

Could hypnotherapy help me lose weight and make better decisions about food?

sparklefarts · 20/11/2020 18:13

Did you stop straight away after first session or did you gradually decrease?

LittleEsme · 20/11/2020 19:56

Do you think it would help with an eating disorder?

Congratulations OP - I'm pleased for you.

kindnessiseverything · 20/11/2020 20:33

What was it like?

Did you know you were hypnotised?
Can you remember what it was like when you were?

I sat in a lovely relaxing chair with a fleece blanket over me. I remember hearing the therapist's voice and her touching my shoulder. It was pleasant and relaxing. Afterwards I felt completely normal, and very chilled and relaxed. I never felt out of control or uncomfortable.

Did you notice the change straightaway? And how simple is it. Do you just not want to eat chocolate anymore?

I went for the zero chocolate option Smile. The therapist did offer me the option to have less chocolate but I wanted to cut it out altogether. It was instant, but I can't remember if it was after the first or second session . But I do remember leaving the practice and going to a shop and freaking out when I saw chocolate!
At the beginning of the session during the chat, the therapist had asked me to name three things that repulsed me and she then linked chocolate to those three things.
When I say freaking out, I mean that I involuntarily jumped back and put my hand over my mouth Grin while giving a little scream. I then realised what I'd done, laughed and moved quickly away from the chocolate. Initially, the response was quite large. I couldn't be in the same room as anyone eating chocolate. I couldn't go down the chocolate aisle in the supermarket without a real effort of looking in the opposite direction and deep breathing. I once had to leave the table in a restaurant as the lady at the next table, which was very close, was eating a chocolate bomb dessert. That has all gradually eased off. I still have absolutely no desire to eat chocolate but now I view it a tad more like I would jellied eels or liver, ie it makes me uncomfortable and I turn my nose up.

Interestingly, as I'm typing this and thinking about this I'm actually starting to feel quite sick.

How accessible is it at the moment?
I don't know. Perhaps Celticmissey can tell us.

Do you eat no chocolate at all now or is it a case of being able to eat it when you want but being able to just have a small amount?
I don't / can't eat any but that was my choice.

Could hypnotherapy help me lose weight and make better decisions about food?
Absolutely. As long as you want it to.

Did you stop straight away after first session or did you gradually decrease?
Stopped immediately. Not eaten any chocolate since.

Do you think it would help with an eating disorder?
I would think so but only if the person with the eating disorder wants it to help.

Wow that's incredible. I definitely want to do this. Perhaps I could do it for binge eating and sugar!

kindnessiseverything · 20/11/2020 20:46

Go for it Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese. Grin

If you want to PM me where you live, we could see if you are close enough to me that I could put you in touch with the therapist I used. I think she does do work via facetime too

AnotherEmma · 20/11/2020 20:48

I love chocolate so much that I'm not sure I could do it! I would really love to be able to just eat small amount of chocolate and other sweet things - in moderation rather than cutting them out completely. Do you think hypnosis could help with that?

GreenOagoda · 20/11/2020 21:04

Are you a hypnotherapist posting purely to surreptitiously direct a bit of business your way? Hmm

Excuse my cynicism. Either way I'm sure 'your' therapist will be grateful for the recommendations you offer to send via PM.

Absolutely not. And the therapist who I used is just that to me; a therapist. Yes, I think she's good at her job and I liked her so I'd be happy to recommend her but nothing more.
I think if I was touting for business, for myself or for the therapist, I'd have send PM messages to all the people who have posted on here showing an interest.

I did name change for doing this though so perhaps that has, understandably, lead to your unease. It's very outing what I'm describing which is why I name changed. I'm an original Mumsnetter. My first post was in 2001 (back in the days of Cod. Who remembers Cod? Smile)

Hmmm could be worth a try. Thanks.
If I could curb my chocolate and sugar habit I'm sure I'd lose a lot of excess weight and have more energy. I just have zero will power!

coastergirl · 20/11/2020 21:58

This is interesting. I drink way too much wine and would really like to cut back but not completely cut it out. Do you think hypnotherapy could help?

ButterflyBitch · 20/11/2020 22:03

Why the fuck would you want to stop eating chocolate? That’s it, that’s my only question Grin

kindnessiseverything · 20/11/2020 22:04

I think so. I was definitely offered the choice to just cut back on the chocolate. I seem to recall the therapist really stressing that it might be the better option but I was adamant that I wanted to cut it out completely.
