Just that. Born in 1995 and adopted in 1997 at the age of 25 months. Ask me anything!

Thanks for sharing op.

Do you feel a connection to Russian culture?

JanewaysBun · 25/09/2020 20:21

OP you sound amazing.. please be proud of your career, it is a much more important job than City type stuff.

How have your sisters dealt with their adoptions?

DelilahfromDevon · 09/10/2020 08:42

@FineWithWine
I work in the City in a “high flying” role. My equally as academic sister is a paediatric nurse. I know whose job adds more value to society and it certainly isn’t mine. You should be so proud of what you do.
I hope you come back. This is a fascinating thread.

Oh goodness OP, you so did not ‘waste’ your education.

My concern over a child in an orphanage would be emotional attachment issues and support for that, rather than milestones and expensive education. Have you done any reading on Attachment Disorder?
What advice would you give someone adopting a child now?

@FineWithWine
There is a guy in NZ who posts on Reddit and YouTube. He was adopted from Russia. You might find him interesting op. He did track down his birth parents and has now met them 🙂

I would be so proud if one of my children became a nurse when they grew up. My mum is a nurse and I am just as proud of her as I am of my barrister dad.

Oh my goodness, a career is just one tiny part of a persons overall achievements and you are a key worker for a reason -bankers certainly aren’t, so don’t EVER think you have ‘wasted’ your education.

Do you remember anything of the confusion you must have felt moving to a new country?

BabyLlamaZen · 24/10/2020 21:21

Another one who can't believe you said your education is wasted as a nurse - look how amazing nurses are in this pandemic! I'd much rather my daughter was a nurse than just work in finance like everybody else. Anyway, side point.

Your adoption was quite late and you seem to have done so well! I know with later adoptions there are often more issues as you would have bonded with one particular card staff to have been able to learn language amongst other things. Do you know much about who looked after you in the orphanage and what it was like there? How was the transition emotionally for you?

Why did your parents choose Russia in particular?
