Obviously since birth! my second and third toes on both feet are webbed, one side more than the other

Are you my friend?

JaJaDingDong · 04/09/2020 23:34

Does it affect you in any way?

Can you swim fast?

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 04/09/2020 23:52

Ha! Don’t really like swimming.

They were horrible when I was a child, would dread gymnastics or bare foot pe. Still not overly keen on them

Is surgery an option?

FrolickingFannyBoots · 05/09/2020 00:41

My DH has this and so does his aunt. Nothing like it on my side luckily. My first born has it as well but neither of my others show any signs of it. So she’s inherited it. It’s called ‘Syndactily’ I think. It’s a slight genetic deformity. You could easily have your toes separated. I have told my daughter she can too if it becomes painful etc. If it bothers you, please see your GP who can refer you on to a specialist. Hope that helps Flowers

Can you wear sandals? Presumably not flip flops? Do you prefer to keep them hidden?

Eatsshoootsandleaves · 05/09/2020 06:13

My second has this. His toes are affected and to a much lesser extent, his left hand.
Do you ever wish you had had the operation to separate them as a young child? My MIL thought we were doing him a great disservice not having him cut (we were told that it could cause painful scarring and for little benefit). My thinking is that if it bothers him as a teen/adult then he could arrange the surgery with his own informed consent, rather than us decide for him. Did I do the right thing?

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 05/09/2020 22:19

Hi all.
Yes I can wear flip flops because it’s only my second and third toes.
I used to keep them hidden but the more people I’ve told think they are cute and never noticed them if I wore flip flops.
Surgery would have been a big deal as I would have needed skin graphs so my parents decided not too

Are they very noticeable?

LordOftheRingz · 05/09/2020 22:23

do you have gills behind your ears like Kevin Costner in water world?

AnyName1 · 05/09/2020 22:29

I have it too. As a result I think everyone else's toes look 'wrong'. All gangly and long!

DCIRozHuntley · 05/09/2020 22:31

I have exactly the same OP, and my little brother and son do too. Are you ginger?

YouLando · 05/09/2020 22:47

I have this too. As someone else said, I think everyone else's toes look weird! I like my webbed toes 😁

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 05/09/2020 22:55

Yeah I don’t like toes and feet but I like my own!

Hi op. I don't have webbed toes but I do have a condition where the top segment of both little fingers bends slightly inwards. It's called clinodactyly or something. My dad has it too but to a much greater extent - the top joint on both fingers is at a 90 degree angle.

I never really thought about it but three things happened:

  1. I met someone who knew the region my ancestors were from and they told me it was notorious for inbreeding;
  2. I googled and apparently it can be an indication of the same
  3. My dd has been researching the family tree and got to a point four generations back from me where two people with the same names, same dates of birth were bouncing back and forward on the online tool, making a dead end/loop and she couldn't work it out. Yes, my great great great uncle shagged his sister.

I now feel quite differently about my bent little fingers. 😲 Envy

Legoandloldolls · 05/09/2020 23:10

Do you have any 'midline defects'? I have slight toe webbing and three of my kids was born with sacral dimples ( one is actually spina bifida) and one is dyspraxic. So I went down a worm hole of researching the link.

Elzbells · 05/09/2020 23:16

My husband, his sister, mother and both our daughters have webbed toes. They aren't as defined as yours though- they all start half way down!

Neolara · 05/09/2020 23:20

My toes are a little like yours and my dd's are exactly like yours. A GP told me when he was born that the NHS won't separate boys' toes, but they will separate girls' toes as apparently it's considered more important that girls' toes look normal in sandals than boys'.

HappyTuesdays · 06/09/2020 00:47

Fucking NHS.

JaJaDingDong · 08/09/2020 17:55

I hadn't realised webbed toes are actually fused toes. I thought you meant you can separate them, but they have webbing in between. Like a duck or the man from Atlantis

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 26/09/2020 22:54

well they never seperated mine! too much work aparently!!

Jpowe · 26/09/2020 22:57

So is my daughters. Cute 😊

AreYouSiriusLupin · 29/09/2020 22:47

JaJaDingDong I thought that too! I feel a a bit stupid now

Flaxmeadow · 30/09/2020 20:29

Is it hereditary?

Just saying that I dont think they look too bad OP. Unusual, but not in anyway unattractive or unnatural

Ohfrigginghellers · 30/09/2020 20:30

Me tooGrin
