I work with kids who have social, emotional and behavioural problems as well as SEN.

Ask me anything!

Oh I have loads of questions, I'll make some coffee then come and ask them!

Do any of the children re-intergate back to mainstream

Does your setting offer GCSEs, and if so what range is on offer? What about A levels? What's the best setting in your opinion for a phenomenally bright child who is completely unable to cope with a mainstream environment and is extremely demand avoidant? But is more than capable academically of doing well at GCSE/A level and then on to university (if we can work on his social and life skills enough in the meantime)?

This is the situation I am in with my 9 yr old and frankly I'm terrified for his future. He's not had a full time education for the last 2 years as there simply isn't a suitable school - he is deemed too able for any of the specialist settings within 50 miles, but has now had 3 mainstream placements fail due to his extreme anxiety, sensory processing issues and demand avoidant behaviour that leads to violent meltdowns if not handled correctly. It seems there's a massive provision gap for academically able children who won't get a proper and fulfilling education in a special school, but who have social/sensory/emotional needs that can't be met in mainstream!

Do you work in a mainstream or SEN school?
