I’m COVID positive (provided proof to MN) - AMA!

Hello! I’ve been diagnosed COVID positive. I had my first symptoms March 14th, was tested March 17th, and my doctor called my 12 hours later to tell me the news. My results were quick, as I have underlying conditions. I asked MN Headquarters if they thought this would be helpful. I’ve provided private medical proof to them and they’ll be along shortly to verify me.

Please feel free to ask me anything about: my symptoms, their progression, the testing, my symptoms post-positive result, how others around me are doing, how quarantine is going, how I expect quarantine to go, and anything else you’d like.

I’m living abroad in Switzerland, so I’m afraid I can’t answer specific questions about what the NHS is doing, and a doctor would be MUCH better qualified anyway, but MN Headquarters still thought this would be helpful, maybe.

Thanks for this thread, OP - I am really glad to hear you're on the mend.

I have a super-sore throat today and a runny nose/generally feeling like I am getting a nasty dose of the cold. I teach, so have been exposed to a LOT of germs although now working from home. Did you have cold symptoms as well as the symptoms you described above, OP?

SimplySteveRedux · 23/03/2020 16:23

My questions about symptoms and progression have already been answered except one: have you had any gastric symptoms at any point?

Great idea this, and I hope you feel better soon SmileThanksStar

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/03/2020 16:23

(Oh, you just answered my question before I even asked it. Perhaps CV-19 gives the power of telepathy as a swap?)

SimplySteveRedux · 23/03/2020 16:27

Oh, and I hope your myasthenia gravis is stable (I am literally waiting for test results and expected to have seronegative mg).

TheQueef · 23/03/2020 16:28

No questions just a good luck from me Brew

dontaskformedicaladviceonmn · 23/03/2020 16:30

I’m on a steroid, an immunosuppressant, and a few other drugs

Did they lower your immunosuppressant drugs?

bonboncherrybon · 23/03/2020 16:30

Best wishes OP. Hope you make a speedy recovery Flowers

@Wolfiefan - I’m going to be honest. When I got the COVID positive result, I was terrified (it didn’t help my doctor ringing me at gone 11pm, har har). My doctors had told me what to do NOT to catch it, due to the danger. And my neurologist warned me specifically that things worsen on days 9-14. I really felt I was in the worst shape you could be in to catch this. But it’s now day 10, and here we are.

I admit, it’s not been the quarantine I imagined of watching Netflix and reading books. Instead, I’ve been sleeping, sleeping, and wait, what was it?

Oh, yes! Sleeping some more! I’ve never had any luck, so I don’t think this was sheer luck. I think there’s just so much we don’t know about how this works and maybe there will be a lot of people who look bad when you add it up on paper (like me and you), who do just fine when they catch it. It’s still a mystery. It’s impossible to say don’t be afraid, but try to take some courage from where I am right now: feeling like absolute crap BUT at home, in my bed, not hooked up to a ventilator. I wish you the very, VERY best of it in the near future.

Have you had any sudden need for a drastic increase in toilet roll usage?

Take care, OP Flowers Hope you have a speedy recovery.

RightYesButNo · 23/03/2020 16:39

@SimplySteveRedux - You know, I’m just not sure on this one. So, I don’t have any gastric symptoms BUT: the doctors did ask me if I had diarrhea, and the more people ask me, the more I’m wondering? I decided to Google (I know, usually a huge mistake) and found this: www.mcknights.com/news/clinical-news/gi-symptoms-found-in-nearly-half-of-patients-with-covid-19-new-study-finds/

I do have loss of appetite, but I assumed that was just the sore throat? I suppose we’re all learning together? Ha.

@dontaskformedicaladviceonmn

Yes, that was definitely step #1 (and really the only step). They determined that my steroid shouldn’t be changed at all, and I was fortunately already on a taper to stop my immunosuppressant as it didn’t seem to be helping my condition (maybe I am lucky!??), so it was a matter of finishing the taper a little more quickly.

Shadowboy my dh has almost certainly had it & his symptoms were a really high temp, then headaches & now he's left with general body ache as you describe.

RightYesButNo · 23/03/2020 18:12

@Froq How strange you should mention this. Yes, the second I got my positive COVID result, I built myself a fortress of solitude out of bog roll as required. I’ve also made myself an apocalyptic outfit from it, including fancy priestess-style headdress, made my ten favorite Sunday recipes out m of it, and just for good measure, actually used some in loo.

Hi OP, well this is a very reassuring thread, thanks, has your husband been tested?

Dutchesss · 23/03/2020 18:20

Just popping on to say thank you for coming on here to answer everyone's questions.

I wish you a speedy recovery.Flowers

kitk · 23/03/2020 18:22

Thanks OP. I'm so terrified of this

Sugarfreejelly · 23/03/2020 18:24

Glad you’re OK OP. Stay well Flowers

StargazyDrifter · 23/03/2020 18:26

RightYesButNo thank you for your reply (I will stock up on more sugar!) and I’m glad you seem to be in good spirits. Really informative thread. I am another nail-biter and this is certainly a much needed jolt! All the best to you and here’s to a super speedy recovery.

RightYesButNo · 23/03/2020 18:41

@northender @Shadowboy - I do want to mention here: a lot of people maybe have had different third or fourth or fifth symptoms. But as northender says, her husband who has body aches, first had really high temperature (which according to a study from Wuhan shows up in 99% of patients). Cough shows up in 60 to 80%, apparently. So while I’m not a doctor, I would think maybe the ache shows up after the fever and cough? If it’s just ache and nothing else, I would be watchful for fever, but try not to panic.

@northender I have a temp of 40.2 and body aches are insane. I’m hoping it’s not going to get worse or spread to my children. My husband has been working from home for two weeks but I’m a teacher and my last day was Thursday so it fits the ‘timeline’ for the virus

supersop60 · 23/03/2020 18:49

Thank you for doing this!

Froq · 23/03/2020 18:51

Grin thank you, OP. Now I understand its necessity I can stop lambasting the stock pilers and become one myself.

RightYesButNo · 23/03/2020 18:59

@Bonkersblond Where we are, you call a hotline about whether you should be tested. In my case, our family doctor told me to get tested (I had symptoms and I was in a high risk group), so it was more like I called the hotline and told them my doctor wanted me tested. With my husband, our doctor recommended he call the hotline and get their advice. So.

My husband called and informed them he lived with someone who had received a positive test result. They asked him if he had any symptoms and he said no (he still doesn’t), so they just told him to isolate himself and not go out for five days since I had my first symptom, and unless he developed symptoms, he didn’t need a test. After the initial five days, they still recommended he leave our house as infrequently as possible. I’m also quarantined in part of the apartment separately, though I’m not sure how much good it’s doing.

Of course, this will all feel pretty ridiculous if my husband is an asymptomatic carrier and the one that made my sick. Without the test though, we just don’t know.
