Dont send them to St Peter's. I used to work there.

Hi. I grew up in a little village 8 miles West of Huntingon...I left at 19 for university...in 1999, so not a very current recommendation...but it was a lovely area to grow up in. Hinchingbrooke was/hopefully still is a great secondary school...can't speak for primary schools in Godmanchester. It is a beautiful village and Huntingdon has had loads of money pumped into it recently to do up the town centre. Has a lovely library and great riverside park. So, overall, a pretty place to live...no idea about local amenities in Godmanchester itself though. Hope you happy wherever you end up.

Worked at both secondary schools. St Peter's is far better.

I went to both secondary schools, Hinchingbrooke was better!

To be fair im 39 so we are talking a long time ago!! Godmanchester is lovely. There are also lots of surrounding smaller villages.
Excellent riding school in Offord! (Or there used to be!)

I lived in Godmanchester for a long time, it's a nice area, very pretty and the people are lovely. Close to Cambridge and Peterborough which are good for shopping. I went to St Peter's and enjoyed it (left in 2004 so things would have changed a lot!). Good luck with your move.

Ooh I'm looking to move to Godmanchester in 3 years times? Would you say it's a nice place to raise a family? Absolutely love Cambridge so cant wait to move close by

Godmanchester has some lovely lovely parts: nice riverside, Chinese Bridge and an amazing Chinese restaurant (Cinta). Huntingdon is a bit tired but generally has what you need and is safe. There's lovely villages not too far away and St Ives, the next town, is lovely.
Getting to Cambridge is a doddle now the new A14 is open, and should be even better when they've finished the works around Godmanchester. Traffic is a bit dodgy at the moment but it's temporary.

Hinchingbrooke is a good school. St Peters has a bad reputation but has a good Ofsted and is definitely on the up. If you talk to people whose children go there, they tend to be really enthusiastic about it.

Good luck, I love living round here 🙂

Hi OP,

We're about 5 or 10 minutes from Godmanchester. We originally were looking at houses there, as it's very pretty with lots of amenities. I,e various shops, butchers, several pubs and restaurants etc and a couple of good primary schools. My dc went to one actually and it was quite good. I had some issues with a member of staff there though...let's just leave it there.

What put us off in the end was the sheer size of the place! The crime rate is quite high and as good as the pubs are, there have been several times I've needed to take our DC out because of rowdy, drunk, sweary men and this has been in the middle of the day sometimes Hmm

It is very popular though and I know lots of mums who absolutely love it and would only move internally. For us, it was just too big and it's only going to get bigger and more densely populated.

There are a lot of lovely surrounding villages though. We're in one Smile
