I work mainly in scrub sometimes as a surgical first assistant across a huge range of specialities in the private sector.

I also do anaesthetics. AMA Grin

Do you prefer working in the private sector and is it less pressure than the NHS?

@Bubblemonkey Really interesting you've asked this! the royal college of anaesthetists have chosen perioperative cardiac arrest as their investigation topic for NAP 7 (National Audit Project). Data collection starts this year and we should have definite numbers of these events following this.

Such an interesting thread !
I had keyhole surgery this week and the experience was so relaxing !
I did have a sore throat after it but they never mentioned intubation? Are all patients intubated under a general?

My DH has had a few operations when he was a teenager (played rugby, football and swam) so mainly for sporting injuries. One was to insert a metal plate in his jaw after someone kicked him in it and broke it during a rugby game when he was 17. Fast forward to him being 23 and he was put under for his wisdom tooth to be taken out as it was on the same side that his metal plate is on. A 20-30 min operation turned into 2 hours as there was complications due to the plate and his jaw bone. After it was done they couldn't wake him up. His blood pressure dropped and his temperature went up. They asked me to go down to talk to him to see if a familiar voice would bring him round?! It was terrifying. But once he was awake everything went back to normal and he was fine. I didnt get chance to ask the doctor as I was just relieved he wasnt dead! Why might this have happened? Hes never reacted to anaesthetic before

I know this is an old thread but thought someone may answer it. I had a hysterectomy and was told not to shave due to the risk of infection but when I came round my pubic area had been shaved.
I was mortified and imagined everyone in the theatre was talking about me

It’s so that you can’t introduce the risk of infection prior to surgery by giving yourself a shaving cut. You will have been shaved immediately prior to the area being prepped for surgery.
It is one of the 5 steps to safer surgery and is part of the SSI bundle if you want to google it @notacatperson1
And no, they won’t have been talking about you, the only mention of anything to do with shaving will have been asking who shaved the area so that it can be documented in the care plan.

Thank you for your reply. I have read the
information on SSI bundle I understand why they did it xx
