What was your job at the time?

Hope you’re recovered now op 👍

newestbridearound · 29/12/2018 21:36

How long ago was it? Did they say afterwards that it was caused by anything eg an underlying medical issue? How are you now?

Fairylea · 29/12/2018 21:39

What was your lifestyle and diet like before you had it? Do you think that played a part?

beckslovestimmy · 29/12/2018 21:41

Are you male or female? Have you changed your lifestyle since the heart attack?

Heartattackat38 · 29/12/2018 21:42

Im fully recovered now thanks 🙂 It was nearly 10 years ago.

I was a childminder at the time. I gave it up for about a year but was really glad to start working again. I also had my own 3 year old and 17 month old when it happened.

They couldn’t find a cause, and I don’t fit any of the typical HA risk criteria. I was a bit of an interesting case on the ward.

We're there any signs in the preceding months or did it come out of the blue?

Heartattackat38 · 29/12/2018 21:50

Argh, just lost a post

I’m female, my lifestyle and diet weren’t great but weren’t particularly bad either. I don’t think it was a factor but it may have been.

It’s certainly better now though, I eat more healthily and exercise more, and apart from all the meds I have to take it’s pretty much the same as before

It pretty much came out of the blue. I thought it was indigestion as I’d just been out with dh for a slap up meal.

With hindsight there were warning signs a few days earlier, I had chest pain while I was mowing the lawn but again put it down to indigestion and it went away when I stopped.

Other than that, no warning at all

Thank goodness. It must have been a terrible shock for you

newestbridearound · 29/12/2018 22:07

I’m so glad you’ve recovered. How did you discover it was a heart attack? Did they have to blue light you or did you take yourself to hospital? I realise I’m really nosey Grin don’t feel you have to answer!

StartingGrid · 29/12/2018 22:08

Have you any family history? How long did it last? That must have been a massive shock!

Heartattackat38 · 29/12/2018 22:54

Don’t worry Newestbride, this isn’t ask me anything 😁

I was in town with dh when the pain started. We’d just had a big meal so just thought it was heartburn. Eventually we decided to to to Boots to get some strong Rennie type stuff but by the time we got there I was nearly passing out and threw up on the floor. Fortunately the pharmacist was on the ball, asked a few questions and sent for an ambulance.

When they got me in the ambulance they initially thought it was something gastric but did a heart trace anyway and were really shocked when it was abnormal.

Then they explained they thought I might be having a heart attack and blue lighted me to hospital. Fortunately because we were in town we were really close to the hospital already, I was taken straight into surgery and had a stent fitted.

Family history, both my grandads died of heart attacks around 60 but they had shocking diets.

Stupid autocorrect, this is ask me anything not isnt

OP posts:
Heartattackat38 · 29/12/2018 23:05

Not sure how long it lasted. It was probably 2 - 3 hours between the start of the pain to getting the stent fitted.

Never in a million years crossed my mind it was a heart attack. A lot of time was spent trying to ignore the ‘indigestion’ and not letting it spoil mine and dh’s rare child free time.

Wow. So scary! Shock

How do you feel about your health now? Has it made you very anxious?

StartingGrid · 29/12/2018 23:13

Sounds like fate was on your side that day! What lifestyle changes have you made since (if any)? My Dad had his first in his late 30's, his third at mid 50's killed him and his Dad and brother both passed at similar ages so tbh I am terrified it could happen to me one day too... glad you are okay now!

Heartattackat38 · 30/12/2018 02:12

Hi think Im more aware of my health now, and trying to be more healthy. It hasn’t made me overly anxious and while it’s not something I dwell on, it’s something that’s just there in my mind at some point everyday. I don’t think that’s a bad thing either, it’s a constant reminder that I’m lucky to be alive but also to look after myself better to make sure I stay alive.
I’m probably most anxious when I get any kind of pain or pressure feelings in the chest, until I work out it’s just muscular or genuine indigestion.

Starting - sorry to hear about your dad. I can understand why you are worried it may happen to you. However my grandmothers both lived into their 90’s and my parents who are both well into their 70’s seem to have avoided the heart problems their fathers had. Hope you do too.

Forgot to add, lifestyle changes, the main one is exercising more than I used to. About 6 weeks after the heart attack I started a rehabilitation exercise thing at the hospital, and although the exercise I do has changed over the years, it’s something I’ve kept up with
