Your relative who won’t know who you are will still know that you’re there.
My mum died 3 months ago. She used to visit her mum, who had altzeimers, most days. She always believed that she could’ve been anyone, but she wanted Grandma to have visitors.
Grandma asked for ‘my girl’ after mum had died and wasn’t visiting anymore. Two weeks ago, Grandma died. I think she missed my mum.
Don’t underestimate the power of just being there for someone with dementia. They might not be able to articulate it, but it makes a difference.
I used to sing Grandma’s favourite ditties, then leave out a word- she would sing (or rather, growl) it. Music is a wonderful tool for communicating with lots of dementia sufferers.
I hope you manage to enjoy the day.
