Saw one of these done a while ago and thought it was interesting!
I'm not a huge one - around the 20k mark :) ask away!

How did you set out to build a following?

How do you earn money from Instagram?

Did it?! I didn't know that!

I post about pregnancy mainly and being a first time mum. I used to post about home interiors.

How did you set out to build a following?

I didn't really. I started an account a few years ago to track the build of my house - it just sort of took off. In those few years life has changed and so I have adapted my content and a lot of my followers are of a similar age/'life stage' so still find what I post enjoyable and relevant.

Do you earn anything from it?

I hate the term influencer lol but that's what it's referred to. So basically I have a social media following and brands/companies either send me freebies or pay me to feature their product on my feed.

Presumably you are one of many that do this. What makes yours different?

HelloThursday · 27/09/2018 10:41

How do you earn money from Instagram?

Paid posts mainly. Or free products to review. I have a baby on the way and have had most of the stuff needed sent to me for a review/post.

I've only just started accepting paid posts as my maternity starts soon and so will come in handy.

How much money do you make on an average month?

Hard to say really - my average rate for a post is £100-£200 but I up until recently would turn them down due to working full time. My following is growing though so I'd consider putting this up once I reach the next 'milestone' follower count for example.

In the last month in terms of paid posts and products sent (only counting ones I have actually needed that have saved me money so to speak) around £1000.

Yes, I do. I've only recently started accepting paid posts though, as I enjoy doing it and loved working with brands whose products I loved in exchange for an item :)

Great question! I don't know really. Lots of people that do it absolutely. What makes mine different (or any of the ones who manage to grow their following) is having a style and posting quality pictures I think. It's about understanding what your audience would like to see and not posting just for the sake of it.

Anyone that looks at my profile will see a clear theme to my posts and everything looks very 'streamlined' I suppose, and I'm very careful not to post anything that doesn't follow that. Great quality pictures make a huge difference too - I only use my iPhone but also make sure the lighting is great so the pictures look good.

Do you get any negative comments / haters and how do you deal with it? How do you not take it personally?

EvePolastri · 27/09/2018 10:48

Do you follow the bigger mum accounts?

Not recently luckily! When it was more focused on interiors I did get trolled occasionally. Mainly people saying they hated my house or didn't understand why anyone would decorate like that etc. I didn't take it personally as I do have quite a thick skin, and to me these people don't even know me and I don't expect everyone to have the same taste as me!

I think I would find it harder to deal if I got more hate on the account now that the posts are more personal (about me/my baby vs. my home decor lol).

A handful. I only really follow the ones that I feel I can relate to :).

Do you make it clear when a post has been paid for? How much freedom do you have when doing a paid post (i.e. do they tell you what to say in any way, do you have to send them a copy before posting etc)? Do you ever review anything you have paid for yourself? Are you ever negative?

howrudeforme · 27/09/2018 10:59

I’ve seen instamums mentioned a few times .No idea what this is or what you influence (clearly not me as far as I’m are).

What is it exactly?

When I am paid for a post I include #ad #sponsored etc. Freedom in terms of the image to a degree - they send me mood boards and example images but I wouldn't accept the brief if the moodboard didn't fit my style IYSWIM. Some brands what copies some don't, mostly they do though.

Yes, I absolutely review things I pay for myself if I love the product and want to share it :).

I try not to include negative posts - in my experience negative posts can get quite negative responses from followers! If I had an awful experience I would share it in a more objective way. More subjective things I just wouldn't post about at all. I wouldn't lie and post a positive review or post about something I didn't genuinely feel that way about.

In basic terms it's someone who has an audience on the internet. Instamum specifically refers to Instagram but you can get people who blog, youtubers etc. They'll have a large following (from thousands to even millions in some cases). They're called influencers and they have 'influence' over their followers. For example, there's one particular Instagram account Mrs Hinch Home who has very quickly amassed around 700k followers - any product she mentions on her Instagram pretty much instantly sells out as her followers will go and buy it based on her recommendation.

OP posts:
Surfinbird · 27/09/2018 11:05

Have you ever ‘asked for recommendations ‘ aka begged for freebies that you specifically want?

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 27/09/2018 11:05

Do you include #ad etc when given the product for free? Do you honestly think you can be objective about such products when you are being paid to advertise them?

howrudeforme · 27/09/2018 11:09

Thank you OP -that’s interesting.

So hooked to Instagram and other social media. Again, I’ve never heard of this so I’m assuming the audience is a younger crowd.
