@missconductus i saw that on social media, wasn't sure if it was for real but good for the RN for being such a great patient advocate!

If a parent bringing a child in asks whether they did the right thing bringing the child in, do you just say yes to be kind or would you say if they had been a bit of a time waster?

Thegirlinthefireplace · 31/07/2018 15:38

Actually I see your last post has probably answered my question.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 31/07/2018 15:38

How on earth do you remain patient/caring to people who are there through something completely their own fault? Eg drunken Saturday night person punched a wall or something?

It was absolutely real and on the telly for days here. She was a hero and made us all proud!

We often have to take a few deep breaths to stay calm. A few weeks ago a person had been dangerous driving, and had paralysed another person who was about 5 beds round the corner from their bed. They were complaining because his leg (a specific part of it but patient confidentially) hurt, little more than a fracture. The other was silent in the bed around the corner. That one took some walking away from. How the parents of the person could be 5 beds away from the other knowing that person had paralysed the other one. Admirable. I’d of killed them had I been the parents and not the nurse.

I will say to parents it probably doesn’t warrant a repeat trip but sometimes parents do know children best and I’d never want to put them off coming if they just “knew” something was wrong.

We had a child another time, all observations fine, no signs of injury but parents just couldn’t shake a feeling. Did CT scan and brain bleed. What amazing parents.

I think parents can just know can't they? I heard of a situation with a child who had a life threatening condition (detail changed but think epilepsy kind of thing) and the parent would wake up at night 5 minutes before an attack started because they couldn't sleep. It happened a couple of times.
