Had a quick Labour with my 3rd birth. 5 minutes from the hospital, told DH to pull over, as I could feel the water sack, by the time he got round to my side our DD was on the car floor!

OMG that must have been really scary. How was DD? Were you traumatised? What happened next?

ChanklyBore · 29/07/2018 18:28

Why did you get in the car?

What do they put on the birth certificate?

JeezYouLoon · 29/07/2018 21:57

Wow!

Did your husband clean the car after or pay someone else? Or scrap the car?

Mayhemmumma · 29/07/2018 21:59

I had a similar horror story, did it or has it affected your bond with baby?

Harebellmeadow · 29/07/2018 22:02

How did you deal with the cord to ensure it wasnt tight around babys neck? Did you ease some space between corn and baby with your fingers?
What happened next? Did you drive to the hospital?

Bobbiepin · 29/07/2018 22:02

What happened after? Did you drive to hospital or call an ambulance?

Elephantgrey · 29/07/2018 22:25

How long was your labour? Were all your labours fast?

I had a relatively fast labour (4 hours) and I worry about having another one in case it is even faster.

I hope you and baby are well. Smile

Harebellmeadow · 29/07/2018 23:08

How did DD fall to the floor? Was she ok? Could you catch her?

GlitteryFluff · 29/07/2018 23:13

Do you look back in amazement or in horror?

orangesnapples · 30/07/2018 06:45

In the moment my mummy adrenaline kicked in and I was very calm, my DH followed their instructions to put baby on my chest and make sure there was no cord or fluid around her face (nose and mouth) we just kept laughing. A rapid response came with in a minute and checked DD, cord was still attached and I swear it was more uncomfortable then the Labour, I begged her to help we get it out but she said she wasn't trained so I looked at her and pushed it out, we all laughed, she called me a worrier and popped it in a bag for the midwifes to examain it to make sure it was whole. then a ambulance came and we were taken to the maternity ward to be checked properly, was home by that evening.
It wasn't untill I was home and in bed that night that I had a little panic attack remembering, there was no time to catch her, I was wearing knickers and a maxi skirt, at the time it felt like I was crowning and the baby's head was being split by my knickers so I told DH to pull over, in the time it took him to pull over and run round my side I had pulled down my knickers lifted up my skirt take off my seat belt and kick the chair back, she came shooting out as DH opened the door, he did kind of catch her/ break her fall.
I had no problems bonding with DD, Who is now a lively bossy 2 year old.
Well to be honest I really wasn't convinced I was in labour, the pains were 2 mins apart then 8 mins then 6 mins then 12 mins etc for about a hour and when I called the midwife she just said you have had 3 kids if you don't know if your in labour, then I don't know! It really didn't seem bad enough to be labour.
DH insisted we go it wasn't untill the car hit them stupid bumps that it really kicked off, 9 minutes, yes all my labours have been quick, 3hrs, 2 hrs 1.5 hrs.

The mess wasn't that bad lol the nurses gave DH some antibacterial wipes so off he went. But we did get new seat covers, all of a sudden the kids weren't fighting to sit in the front lol
Her birth certificate says something along the lines of 'outside supermarket, junction of smith Lane and bob street'

That is amazing, and well done on staying so calm! When you were taken to hospital, did baby have to go in a car seat?

orangesnapples · 30/07/2018 09:53

No, I held her in the ambulance, they did at first want to wait for a second ambulance to take baby separately but I convinced them that I'd prefer her to stay with me and that I was quite capable of carrying her.
Iv just remembered that when the ambulance arrived I stood up to get in the wheelchair and all my clothes were stuck to my back so I started stripping in the street 😳 And the poor paramedics were desperately trying to cover me, so I practically ran into the ambulance stripping my clothes shouting eww eww lol.
We look back on her birth with fondness and laughter.

What should you carry in the car if you ste driiving to hospital or taking a taxi, and think its going to be fast? A picknick blanket or a waterproof sheet? Thick blankets?
Im not afraid of a birth en route. I assume it would be best to stop the car though 🤣

orangesnapples · 30/07/2018 13:03

I was wearing a big cardigan that I was able to wrap around baby while she was on my chest. I would proberly say a few towels, but honestly I barely had time to pull my knickers down never mind worry about blankets and towels lol

I’ve had fast labours and I refused to move for any of them, which is why I asked why you got in the car. With previous fast labours, did you not consider staying put to be a safer option?

Why did you call an ambulance?

timeisnotaline · 30/07/2018 18:27

So you didn’t actually have to think about how to labour, just stop the car and catch the baby? I think that’s a relief, that’s what I was afraid of on the way to hospital with my recent baby!

Rosarollo · 30/07/2018 18:34

Amazing. Xx

orangesnapples · 30/07/2018 23:56

I was hoping for a home birth but had high blood pressure towards the end and it was called off. It didn't cross our mind to call a ambulance, were about 12 minutes from the hopital and the pain wasn't bad untill we started the car.

How old were you? Were you in any local newspapers or anything like that?

ChanklyBore · 31/07/2018 17:55

You said you went in an ambulance. Why did you call the ambulance? Did you consider either continuing the journey yourselves or returning home?

orangesnapples · 31/07/2018 20:46

I was 35 and no we didn't make a fuss, only told friends and family.

We was happy to carry on to the hospital but the paramedics insisted, it was a 3/4 minute journey.
We did want to get baby checked, and I did need some stitches.
