What do you miss most from home?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/07/2018 20:53

Can you make appam? Will you make me some?

glintandglide · 28/07/2018 20:55

What was the biggest culture shock for you?

SlowlyShrinking · 28/07/2018 20:55

How many languages do you speak?
What shocked or surprised you most about living in the U.K.?

Pixel99 · 28/07/2018 20:57

Are you happy here? Do you have friends that you could call on in a crisis?

Whisperingwinds · 28/07/2018 21:11

What do you miss most from home?
@MissCakeyBun - food - especially the street food - it simply doesn’t taste the same here

Can you make apam?
@LadyMonicaBaddingham sweet or savoury and yes and yes

What was the biggest culture shock for you?
@glintandglide hmm in a good way the amazing work life balance and long maternity leave. I grew up in a big city in India and went to uni in States so the “westernisation” if you will want a shock as my upbringing has been quite liberal. It’s been a while so will think a bit more and come back to you

I speak 6 including English. Nothing much shocked me Except maybe the abundance of alcohol driven culture in tech startups where I work and the lack of
Women in STEM career paths. The gender imbalance definitely surprised me.

@picel99 yes! I love it here and it’s home. I am Also truly lucky to have made an amazing bunch of friends who are my support system and a few friends I can call at any time of the day or night for help

@pixel99 * my bloody fat fingers. Should have said that my closest friends have already come through for me during a family crisis last year.

@glintandglide @SlowlyShrinking remembered the one that surprised me the most was how private most English people I worked with were - both in India and US I was used to a much more relaxed and personal level of interaction - here I realised I could spend ages talking to someone but not really know much about them and I wasn’t really sure In initial days if it was rude to ask! Now it just feels natural and the norm.
