Where can I go to get independent advice for my skin age etc most places are selling products...

WindyWednesday · 21/07/2018 15:43

That’s a good question.

Most salons or spas are selling skincare and facials. They will have one or more brands in house.

When you say independent advice. What do you want to know? Skincare advice or treatment advice?

how do I get this gel polish off my nails? I have no acetone and im reluctant to buy any.

orkneyfudge · 21/07/2018 20:38

I am the (not proud, lazy) owner of a full bush. If I went in for a bikini wax, would you expect to have trimmed first? This totally baffles me as I just don't know what is normal, where to trim if relevant and puts me off going.

Mishappening · 21/07/2018 20:40

Does beauty matter?

WindyWednesday · 21/07/2018 20:42

Is it a salon gel manicure. Or a nail polish claiming to be gel?

If it’s a salon job you’ll need to go back and ask them to remove.

If it’s gel polish, then nail polish remover should get it off. Hold the cotton pad on the nail, count to 10 and press hard and swipe off.

I’m rather hairy, I have had bikini waxes before but have more recently (probably hormonal) become more hairy in places I haven’t really been before!

Do you often get ladies come in who also need their (ahem) crack waxed, lower back and tummy?

WindyWednesday · 21/07/2018 20:42

If you go for a wax, any longer hairs will be discreetly trimmed.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, surely?

What’s your opinion on dermarollong/micro needling?
Thanks!

SkaPunkPrincess · 21/07/2018 21:15

I had it done at a salon its gel polish set with the uv lights? On my natural nail.

fairgame84 · 21/07/2018 21:17

How can I get rid of my nose hairs?
I'm too scared to use a nose trimmer in case they grow back thicker or is that just a myth?

Monkeypuzzle32 · 21/07/2018 21:19

Why is it in so many salons a normal bikini wax is only a tiny bit off the sides? Surely it should be enough to not show if you were wearing s bikini?

WindyWednesday · 21/07/2018 21:28

Skunk princess. I think you should go back and ask them how best to remove. You can use acetone soaked in cotton wool. Then wrap it around each nail and then cover with foil. However as I don’t know the actual type of polish, it’s best to get advice from the salon so you don’t damage your nails.

Fair game, that’s not really part of my job. That’s personal care.

WindyWednesday · 21/07/2018 21:29

Monkey puzzle.

A bikini wax refers to the area of the body, so it’s up to you how much you’d like to have removed.

OP posts:
WindyWednesday · 21/07/2018 21:31

When I do a bikini wax I always suggest they have a bit more off as bikinis are cut differently to underwear. Although people do come in wearing bikini bottoms so they can check. It’s personal preference really.

Another one about micro derma rolling. I've bought the one that Trinny Woodall uses but I haven't dared use it yet!

happymummy12345 · 21/07/2018 23:19

I never ever wear any makeup, mostly because I can't apply it at all. I have no desire to start wearing makeup. But I do have a question.
If I need to conceal something, obviously I need concealer. My question is: what type is best to use (liquid, stick)? How would I apply it (step by step guide of what to do and how to do it)? And what would I need in regards equipment (would I need a brush, sponge? Or just use my fingers to apply)?
And can I just use concealer on its own? I really don't want to be using anything else.

WindyWednesday · 22/07/2018 08:27

Micro dermal rolling.

It’s not something I would use. It causes too much trauma. Also not good for broken veins. It’s like the micro demabrasion a few years back.

Look after your skin and moisturise it well. Keep out of the sun and drink plenty of water. That’s the best thing to do for your skin. Most celebrities who endorse products are paid to do so, and normally have surgery which helps them look younger. I’d be very surprised if it is actually down to the roller.

Yes, of course you can use concealer for the odd blemish and no other make up.

A liquid concealer with a wand applicator is the best. Small amounts and press and roll it into your skin with a clean finger. Choose the closest to your own skin tone. If you use a small amount and press it in well it won’t show.

Is £500 really the accepted going rate for microblading?

I would like a simple skin care routine. Do I need to be toning and cleansing? It seems a lot of faff. At the moment I just wash and moisturise religiously but there seems to be an awful lot of products and I get the feeling I'm missing out but not sure exactly on what iyswim?

WindyWednesday · 22/07/2018 13:24

Prices vary widely according to area.

You say you wash your face, how do you do this?

Moisturise well, that’s very important. Do you wear make up?

If not, you still need to remove pollution and dead skin, sweat, and oil from your skin. A cleanser in a lotion form is better than a wash style cleanser. You can still splash off with water or a wet flannel if you prefer to have the feel of water on your skin.

Takes seconds, but makes a difference.

Sorry, realised I haven’t answered a question from earlier.

If you have hair anywhere it can be removed by waxing. I personally in a bikini wax will do tummy, upper thigh, underneath bottom cheeks, on the cheeks. Anywhere really. Once I start waxing, I like to see a smooth finish.

Also relating to cost of a wax. If it’s a bikini wax I charge a set price. I don’t charge per hair. So if you have more hair you pay the same as someone with only a few hairs. It’s my time you pay for. I don’t charge less if someone has only a bit off the bikini area.
