I have five children. Numbers 2 and 3 are twins. They are born one day apart. Twin 1 born at 11.36pm and twin 2 born at 00.22am.

Number 5 was born on two 2s birthday 5 years later!

AMA?

With the twins, could you have chosen for them to have the same birthday? I went to university with twins with different, adjoining birthdays, who always said that their mum could have chosen to give them the same birthday, but I was never they convinced. They had birthdays in different months too!

MyBearIsCalledTeddy · 20/07/2018 19:41

Not something I have ever heard of!

Is that quite a long gap between twins being born? I always thought it was just a few minutes.

Do they like having their own birthdays?

bigredbed · 20/07/2018 19:44

Amazing.

That sounds like an organisational pain in the bottom, OP 😁

My twins were born 36 hours apart. Tried to keep number 2 cooking long enough to improve his chances.

Do you only have sex on the same day each year?

OytheBumbler · 20/07/2018 19:54

How do you do big surprise presents?

So if you'd decided on an iPad each (for example) would you have to give both presents on the same day so as not to spoil the surprise?

My Dad has a twin sister and their youngest sister was born on their birthday so 3 out of the 5 siblings share one.

MaverickSnoopy · 20/07/2018 19:59

Do you do a party/celebration each day, or do they can get a joint party?

MyBearIsCalledTeddy · 20/07/2018 20:18

They were born vaginally not csection so second one came out when he was ready.

The twins enjoyed their own birthday until #5 came along. Now the twin who doesn't share wishes she shared their birthday too.

We split presents over both days so all 3 get presents on two days. My other two kids also get presents over two days lol.

The twins used to have a joint party, then #5 came along and for his first 3 birthdays he just joined in with the twins. Then we did weekend before was twins party and weekend after was #5s party.

This year the twins are now 12 and in high school and they wanted separate things so they were both allowed three friends to do an activity with them and I went with one my husband went with the other. Their birthdays were midweek so they celebrated the weekend before. #5 was 7 this year and he had a whole class party the weekend after their birthday.

Why is there such a big time difference?

Do they get 2 parties and presents on the different days?

Are they the same star sign?

Tomboytown · 20/07/2018 20:23

What are the odds?!

WreckTangled · 20/07/2018 20:26

I've met twins born a month apart Shock had to google how that happened as I had never heard of it before!

Havent got a clue about star signs, not something I'm interested in... April 9th and 10th?

There is less than an hour between them. It's quite common for twins to be born a couple of hours apart although I believe average is around 20 mins apart. Still have to push the second one out they don't just follow the first out lol.

Until the twins were about 8 they didn't actually know which day their real birthday was...we decided not to tell them and they just opened their cards on the first twins birthday. They still open cards on twin one birthday but #5 opens on his own birthday.

As they get older and become more independent they will likely naturally celebrate on their real birthdays

It is a logistical nightmare but has worked well so far. It helps there is 5 years between twins and #5. To begin with #5 couldn't care less when his birthday was and then the twins became older they were more understanding.

There must be twins somewhere born in different years, born either side of New Year’s Eve midnight.

The twins I knew with birthdays in different months were born about 20 mins apart, but either side on midnight on 30 Nov/1 Dec

We had decided before they were born we wouldn't day which was the eldest as we didn't want the whole "im older than you" stuff. They've never asked about their birth!

These twins were literally born weeks apart, it might even have been more than a month I can't quite remember. Pre term labour for twin one but then labour stopped so they kept twin two in until closer to term and mum had a csection that time.
