Have you got a formal diagnosis? Are you open about your Asperger’s?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 03/08/2018 08:23

Yes- and yes. But then, I take the piss out of myself all the time too? I'm VI too, and blind jokes are rife in this house.

How did you get your diagnosis? how long did it take?

How did you suspect you may be aspie?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 03/08/2018 08:52

It was a fair few months between the initial GP appointment, and the assessment. The assessor said that it would have been a little more straightforward if I'd been able to get information about my childhood from someone who knew (I have no one).

Everyone's traits are different: mine include having to explain things in very minute detail, certsin smells totally buggaring up my concentration, taking things so literally that a throwaway comment can keep me up for three nights worrying...loads of stuff. Three pages full! 😁 But then, I've always been like that. The "label" is a sort of relief. I always thought my oddness was a throwback from the shite I went through as a kid!

Me too OP! Are you female?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 04/08/2018 14:42

Yup!

Have you developed your own strategies to deal with adult stressful situations (thinking finance, relationships etc)?
Are you open about your diagnosis in work situations and are you given any support? Has it ever hindered you at work/academically?
Finally, not sure about your background but is there anything you wish family/friends could have done when you were growing up to understand you better?
Lots of questions from a mum of aspies.

MrSpock · 04/08/2018 14:47

How do you find being a female aspie? I find it has its own challenges and joys

Wellmeaning · 04/08/2018 14:54

I think I might be allroads.
I’m also pretty depressed though, and can’t begin to fight to be diagnosed.

I think it might help me come to terms with myself. There’s certainly something not quite right with me, I know that, but I just don’t know how or what to do about it.

Like you I’ve alwayys thought it was down to an abusive upbringing; but I think it’s more than that.

I can understand how it would help you. It must make a lot of stuff make sense.

sporadicrains · 04/08/2018 15:50

What was it that made you go to the doctor in the first place?

Notevilstepmother · 04/08/2018 15:53

Me too Gin cheers.

Did you have a nice time at the pub? It was you with the “friend”?

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 04/08/2018 15:58

Do you have friends? Is it hard to make/ maintain friendships? Have you found anything that helps?

hungryhippie · 04/08/2018 16:01

Me too :)
Do you have kids?
I have 3 and it certainly has its challenges!
Do you have any other conditions or co morbids?

KinderBean · 05/08/2018 08:40

Are there any self help books that helped you?

Shednik · 05/08/2018 13:37

Has it made a difference to you being formally diagnosed? I ask as someone who is about to begin the process of assessment.
