A few tough years didn't help my deepening nasolabial folds and unwanted jowls, did the filler route for over a year (which was great) then took the plunge and had a facelift at 44, 3 years on I'm still very happy with the results, AMA!

Has anyone noticed who doesn’t know?

How long did recovery take?

JeezYouLoon · 13/07/2018 09:52

Good grief, it seems very young (I'm the same age and clearly in denial!).

How long was the operation? What were the risks?

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 13/07/2018 13:44

Why didn't you continue with filler?

Did you ever worry about looking too 'stretched' after the procedure?

DownUdderer · 15/07/2018 09:26

You gotta answer!! Will you need another one in ten years time? How much did it cost? How old do you look now? @Jowless

ScreamingValenta · 15/07/2018 09:28

Did you tell people in advance (e.g. at work) that you were having a face lift?

TaraCave · 15/07/2018 09:30

Why did you start this thread?

Toohotme · 15/07/2018 09:32

Can you post before and after photos?

buggedby · 15/07/2018 22:57

I'm early 40's and and seriously considering a facelift. It's the jowls really I want gone. What was the recovery time?

LaunchACareer · 15/07/2018 23:01

Why don't you accept your jowls? What's wrong with natural ageing?

Happy to hear that you are pleased with the results.

Jowless · 16/07/2018 13:36

Sorry, been away.

Ok

Has anyone noticed who doesn’t know?

No one has noticed, had I waited any longer I'm sure people would have noticed as it got worse then the change

How long did recovery take?

Not long, had the procedure on a Thursday and was out at the Theatre Sunday and doing the school run on Monday, I was under a LA, not GA so was awake the entire time.

How long was the operation? What were the risks?

Op took 4 hours, risks are bleeding, scarring can't remember any others specifically, but as an elective op I'm sure the form I signed covered a lot!

Why didn't you continue with filler?

The filler stopped lifting my jowls, it needed pulling back, fillers would only leave me looking un natural and puffy, the plastic look I didn't want.

Did you ever worry about looking too 'stretched' after the procedure?

No not at all, in fact it tightened and closed some of my pores too.

Was it a full traditional facelift or a thread lift? The recovery time is much lower than I expected. I've read this is absolutely the best age to do it! Can you say how much all in (consult, op, post procedure stuff)?

Probably if my jowls re appear, the facelift does not stop the ageing process.
Someone thought I looked 37 last week and girls at my gym (who are early 30's) thought I was their age, I'm 47.

@TaraCave
I didn't tell anyone, only my dh knew.

I started this thread as I thought women of my age might be interested. It took me over a year to pluck up the courage to try fillers as I had always been anti plastic surgery, but back then I didn't need it.

@Toohotme
No sorry.

@buggedby
Recovery time a few days, I had to sleep with my head elevated for 5 days, scars were behind my ears and hidden by my hair.

@LaunchaCareer
Nothing wrong with natural ageing, I had gone through a tough few years and I felt I aged prematurely as it showed on my face.

I'd like a lower facelift, just to get the jowls, don't mind a few crows feet. What did it cost?

It was a full facelift, but under a LA. A thread lift doesn't last and can go very wrong as it just pulls the skin, the facelift pulls the muscle below. I wa

Yes it is the best age to do it, have no regrets doing it when I did, I didn't see the point in waiting until I was 50 to do it whilst suffering and spending money on superficial fixes and avoiding mirrors etc!

It cost £6k in total. After care was amazing.

I'm sold! My mum had one at 70 and wishes she's fine it much earlier. I'm
Not sure why she didn't either tbh.

I hate the jowls, wouldn't miss them, the lines I have no problem with and even quite like them.

Toosin · 16/07/2018 22:04

Did you get it done in the UK or abroad?

Are the scars inside the hairline or just in front?

Did it make any difference to bags under your eyes? -

Jowless · 17/07/2018 09:29

@buggedby
Me too. I don't mind my crows feet or lines on my forehead, I just couldn't take the jowls and deepening nose to mouth lines. I think what pushed me to stop fillers is when my practitioner suggested fillers in my cheek to "lift" my jowls which I knew would give me that "had work" done look which I didn't want.

@toosin

In the UK South East

Are the scars inside the hairline or just in front?

Main scars are behind the ear, the ones by the ear are completely hidden above the ear love, they are completely invisible now.

Did it make any difference to bags under your eyes? -

No not at all but as it pulled the skin back it tightened my pores, so my skin looked better.

This is actually really interesting! Thanks! Did you really not bruise? I’ve seen people on tv who looked hideous after plastic surgery

DownUdderer · 17/07/2018 09:47

With all the bruises and swelling

fantasmasgoria1 · 17/07/2018 10:21

I am 43 and I admit I’m very lucky, I have hardy any lines and no jowls! When I develop wrinkles I am tempted to get some subtle filler but i don’t think I would get a full facelift!

Jowless · 17/07/2018 14:14

@downudderer

No bruising whatsoever, I took bromelin and arnica a few days before the surgery. I did have some swelling but it went down within 36 hours.

I know what you are saying about people looking hideous after face lift surgery but they probably had other work done on their eyes and neck that makes it look worse. I guess that's what happens if you wait to have work done later in life, there's more to do!!

Post surgery I wasn't bandaged up or had any drains put in, in fact I went home within the hour.

I have to add, my jowls weren't horrendous but I noticed, they really started to bother me and I knew they were only going to get worse, I hated how my profile changed.

I just had my lower loosening face pulled back so jowls gone along with the mouth to nose lines. It was still called a full face lift. My profile is great now and I have a fantastic jaw line.

Jowless · 17/07/2018 14:51

@fantasmasgoria1

Exactly how I felt, then the jowls appeared (around 43) which I hated and they bothered me. Fillers were great at first but can only do so much and not a long term fix. I guess each to their own, my friend has developed a loose turkey neck which doesn't seem to bother her.

I don't mind lines hence why I haven't done Botox but my surgeon did say my upper third was great for my age.
