Are they identical?

Jokes.. I have twins too and that’s the first thing everyone asks isn’t it... (boy and girl here so tricky for them to be..)

vanillasky1001 · 01/07/2018 22:43

Did you have a vaginal birth? And if so was the second as hard as the first??

DaphneFanshaw · 01/07/2018 22:44

Grin are they completey the same or are they completely different?
I have twins too and always get this.

ellesbellesxxx · 01/07/2018 22:47

@vanillasky1001 I had an assisted v birth but had already had episiotomy and third degree tear for first so although they used ventouse, he was quicker than twin one!

MakeMineATwin2 · 01/07/2018 22:47

They are identical.

C section delivery

Identical in looks but personality is completely different

DH only recently realised when I explained it to him that b/g twins can't possibly, ever, be identical Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/07/2018 23:23

Are they the first twins in the family.
My bil is a twin and there have been no twins before or since. Well that their mum and dad know of.
Can you tell the difference.
Do they do spooky things like ever speak their own language or know what each other is thinking.

DickensianHysteric · 01/07/2018 23:25

Which one's your favourite? WinkGrin

Theweasleytwins · 01/07/2018 23:39

@Heratnumber7 there have been about 10 cases of genetically identical twins recorded. It's called Turner Synodrome👍🏻

Op how do you deal with all the repetitive questions about your DT?

Heratnumber7 · 01/07/2018 23:47

Eh?

From NHS website:
"Turner syndrome is a female-only genetic disorder that affects about 1 in every 2,000 baby girls.
A girl with Turner syndrome only has one normal X sex chromosome, rather than the usual two".

MakeMineATwin2 · 01/07/2018 23:50

Yes they are the first twins in my family, so we're quite a surprise!

I don't have a favourite but their sister does.

I've got used to people asking me the same questions. I can predict what they are going to ask before they do!

As for anything spooky, a few months back I took one upstairs to get him dressed and when I came back down his brother was In the same outfit (picked out from the laundry basket yet to be packed away) They had both chose the same clothes to wear!

Similar thing with clothes happened with my bil and his twin. Their M&D gave them some money to buy clothes for Christmas and they went separately with their own mates as they weren't really they type of twins who were always together. Anyway they coincidentally bought they same outfit and even the same shoes.
I had also a friend. Well not really a friend as such more someone I was friendly with and when her sister went into labour she felt every single pain.

ObiJuanKenobi · 02/07/2018 00:14

I have twins too!! Assuming yours are older than mine, when does it get easier!?!

Mine were brilliant in every way and such easy babies until they turned 2 in April and now are little horrors!!!!!!!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/07/2018 00:18

"Yes they are the first twins in my family so quite a surprise.

Oh same with my bil. They have to start somewhere i suppose.

CookPassBabtridge · 02/07/2018 00:24

How do you handle two at a time? I think you're all amazing. One baby is hard enough.. changing nappies, feeding, transporting, comforting. I just can't imagine having two babies to manage.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 02/07/2018 04:29

Assuming yours are older than mine, when does it get easier!?

Am I the only one who feels like having twins would actually be pretty easy if not for the older sibling? It’s so hard to find appropriate and safe activities through the week when it’s just me to look after them. Gated parks only!

MakeMineATwin2 · 02/07/2018 07:20

Mine are also 2 and indeed have turned into little horrors! I'm still waiting for it to get easier I'm afraid.

You get into a routine from when they're born so changing 2 nappies at a time and feeding 2 etc just becomes normal after a while.

As for going to the park, I can only do that if there is another adult too.

I have always wondered with a twin vaginal birth does it go baby, placenta, baby, placenta or baby, baby, placenta, placenta?

Auntieobem · 02/07/2018 07:32

I have a twin brother, and people have often asked if we're identical. I tell them no, I have boobs.

Cineraria · 02/07/2018 07:37

When did you first realise/suspect you might be having twins?

ReadytoTalk · 02/07/2018 07:40

Oh good im glad I'm not the only one who can't go anywhere on my own with them! Mine are only little so don't understand about not running off yet.

loveisland · 02/07/2018 08:51

@Cineraria that's my question too!

ObiJuanKenobi · 02/07/2018 11:19

@Supermog01 no it goes baby, baby and then placentas last, after the first baby is born they leave the cord hanging out.

With a lot of twins the two placentas can fuse together so delivering twin 1s placenta could be dangerous/fatal for twin 2 if their placentas are fused.

Or at least that's what I was told at the multiples anti natal class.
My placentas had fused, although I had an EMCS.

thewalrus · 02/07/2018 12:13

I had a scan at 5w 5 days which confirmed I was having twins, but I already knew by then. TBF was an IVF pregnancy with 2 embryos transferred. I already felt pregnant (was my 2nd pregnancy) and started to look it fairly soon after.

It does get easier! Slowly. (I remember being bloody gutted just after their first birthday when it was still as hard as ever.)

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 02/07/2018 12:22

I did IVF too but only had one embryo transferred. Smile We went for the scan to look for a heartbeat and there was one. Then the Dr paused and was quiet for a moment. “Hmmm... let me tell you what I’m seeing...” Slight panic but then she explained that although there was only one heartbeat to find so far, there appeared to be two sacs. We were told to come back in a week to try find a second heartbeat. And there it was. She’s easily the best surprise I’ve ever had.
