It's a lot easier to have toddler DS (17mo) in a backpack carrier than buying an all terrain buggy and only going places suitable to use one. I wouldn't fancy pushing one up mountains!

We used the backpack when out hiking for example, DH especially. All the other stuff he needed went into the carrier as well (water bottle and food for example). It had a sunshade and a rain cover if the weather turned.

The LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier is a well-designed, durable baby carrier backpack with plenty of thoughtful features. Parent tester Catherine loved the roomy design. She says, “The extra stretch mesh pockets and large base pocket are so handy, you don’t need to carry anything else separately on walks like your keys, purse or phone, so it’s really convenient.”

The Pathseeker comes with a fully adjustable hip belt, shoulder straps, and seat-height strap to ensure a secure and comfortable fit for parents of different heights. The seat-height adjustment also allows children to be carried at the right level, letting them enjoy the view safely and comfortably.

Unlike traditional baby carriers, slings and wraps that can be worn in a few different ways, including across the chest, the Pathseeker is a backpack-style carrier and sits higher up. Catherine shared that her daughter took some time to get used to the carrier but eventually felt secure and content. “She overcame her concerns, and this is definitely influenced by how comfy and secure she felt in the carrier.”

Valuable extras like a soft face pad, sunshade, foot stirrups, and a rear-view mirror add extra convenience. However, Catherine sometimes found it tricky to stand up and balance. “I found it difficult to get my daughter in there and then balance myself to stand up wearing it, so I needed a spotter! Others with more carrier experience or lighter babies may not find this a problem,” she adds. However the Pathseeker is still great value for money and ideal to use on walks if you prefer to leave the stroller behind.

How we tested the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier

• Tested over four weeks on dog walks in the countryside
• Used a few times a week to carry a two-and-a-half-year-old
• Proved handy for the nursery run and short trips to the shops

Catherine primarily used the Pathseeker for dog walks when her daughter, who often got tired, needed a break—whether in the countryside or around their housing estate. It also came in handy for quick trips to local shops when the pushchair wasn’t needed.

LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier: What’s in the box?

Just the carrier, all put together – nothing else at all, which is nice and simple if you just want to use it straight away.

How easy is the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier to assemble?

The Pathseeker comes fully assembled, though as Catherine explains, you'll need to familiarise yourself with the straps. After the first setup, it's straightforward.

There are two main clips at the back: one around the waist and another at mid-back. Adjustable straps help secure your child closer to you, with additional safety straps on the sides for extra support.

How does the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier look?

While it’s not as compact as the Phil & Ted’s Parade carrier, the Pathseeker is durable and looks great! “It’s quite large but it does squash down a bit, so I didn’t have a problem storing it in a cupboard against the wall. The carrier itself is light with breathable fabric,” says Catherine.

Is the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier and sturdy?

“It feels very secure. I never worry that my daughter will topple over or that anything will come loose,” says Catherine. However, she was more aware of walking carefully and watching where she stepped whilst out on walks. “Also, when I was going out of the front door, I had to make sure my daughter got through the doorframe with all her limbs safely tucked in!”

The chest straps are easy to adjust for different body types, with a magnetic closure on the top strap. It may take some trial and error to find the right fit, as keeping the strap too tight can feel restrictive across the chest.

What’s the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier like to use day-to-day?

The Pathseeker is practical for day-to-day use, though it can take some getting used to with an active toddler. Catherine shared, “With a wriggly toddler, I found it a bit nerve-wracking at first to pop her in it and then put the shoulder straps on and stand up!” Her daughter was initially unsure about being so high up but soon enjoyed the elevated view.

While Catherine found the carrier comfortable and secure once it was on, she needed help lifting her daughter into place due to her child’s size. She noted, “If she were younger and lighter, I would have been more confident getting her in and lifting her up and managing the straps around my body myself.”

Removing the carrier was straightforward, and Catherine appreciated that “you don’t have to put anything together and it’s always ready to go.” Despite early resistance, her daughter now eagerly asks to use it, making outings more enjoyable and hands-free.

How comfortable is the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier?

The Pathseeker seemed comfortable for Catherine’s daughter, as she had “no complaints.” However, Catherine found it important to consider how she dressed her before heading out.  She explains, “I didn’t think a skirt or long coat would be comfy as it would bunch up. Instead, I usually put her in a long fleecy outer layer with a light raincoat on top.”

Since her daughter’s limbs were quite exposed, she added, “If rain is expected, I’d put her in wellies and a rainsuit! You can tuck the feet in, which younger children might like, but mine just kicked herself out!”

The carrier was “really handy for dog walks, popping to a local shop, or back and forth to nursery.” On longer countryside walks, Catherine needed breaks. “I wouldn’t use the carrier for long periods unless I could rest a little in between. Even though I found the weight distribution really good over my hips, carrying a toddler is heavy!”

She also shared that with a younger child, she could “definitely get away with carrying her round the shops on a Saturday (as long as it’s not too busy as we made a bulky pair!).”

Does the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier fold down?

It doesn’t fold down as compactly as the Osprey Poco but sort of squashes so you can take it on family holidays, or store it somewhere convenient – we kept it upright in a closet corner.

LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier: Are there any added extras?

Yes! The Pathseeker is great value for money because it comes with a soft face pad, a built-in sunshade, foot stirrups and a rear-view mirror – all included in the purchase.

Is the LittleLife Pathseeker child carrier easy to clean?

Yes, Catherine had no problem cleaning the Pathseeker after snacks on the go. She says, “We’ve only spot cleaned it after snacks like crackers and fruit. With a sponge this was easy but not sure how it would hold up against something that stains.”

To clean the Pathseeker, start by brushing off any loose dirt or debris. Then, wipe the fabric with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage the material.

For stubborn stains, use a soft brush and gentle circular motions. Rinse with a clean, damp cloth and let the carrier air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Regular cleaning helps maintain its durability and appearance.

Is the Pathseeker child carrier good value for money?

If your child has reached the stage where sitting in a pushchair feels like a punishment, a baby carrier or backpack like the Pathseeker can be a great alternative.

While it is expensive, it’s worth the investment if you frequently walk or commute to childcare on foot and don't fancy using a scooter or trike for your child. The Pathseeker offers security, comfort, and durability, making it likely to last for as long as you need it.
