Our verdict

If you’re looking for a reliable baby monitor packed with smart features, but with an affordable price tag, the Hubble Go Baby Plus is a good option. Parent tester Maisie tested this model with her nine-month-old for just over a week, using it overnight, during daytime naps and around the house. Overall, she found it to be a “really great feature packed baby monitor that offers a lot more than a basic baby camera I have used before.” The clear picture quality, large 5-inch screen and choice of parent unit or app were the standout features for her.

That flexibility proved particularly useful day to day. Maisie often kept the monitor in one room while having the app open in another, meaning she didn't have to carry the parent unit around the house. She also liked being able to invite family members to view the feed, which she felt would make it easy for grandparents or other carers to check in when needed.

The portable battery pack was another highlight. “It sounds like a small thing, but in reality, it makes a big difference,” says Maisie. Being able to move the camera without constantly worrying about finding a plug was especially useful. She found the combination of the battery pack, app and parent unit made the monitor feel much more flexible than others she'd used. “It doesn’t lock you into one way of using it,” she explains, “and that made it feel more practical in real life compared with other monitors I’ve used.”

There are plenty of other useful features, including cry detection, night vision, soothing sounds and temperature monitoring. Maisie didn't use the built-in sleep schedule because she uses the Huckleberry app but liked having the option there. The cry detection was useful for reassurance, although it “could sometimes be a little sensitive”, resulting in quite a few notifications.

There are a few other niggles. Setup took around 40 minutes and required a restart after the first attempt failed, while the app could sometimes be slow to connect. Maisie also felt the parent unit battery could be better and found the low-battery alert “quite loud”, particularly at night.

That said, Maisie would “definitely recommend it overall, especially for parents who want something more advanced than a basic monitor.” She adds: “It’s best suited to those who want good video quality, remote access, and the ability to share access with family members.”

How we tested the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor

Maisie tested the Hubble Go Baby Plus for just over a week with her nine-month-old, using it as part of their normal routine at home. The camera stayed set up in the bedroom where her child sleeps, while she carried the parent unit around the house and used the app on her phone, including when she was out in the garden.

Most of the testing took place overnight, which is their main use for a baby monitor, giving Maisie a good sense of how it performed over longer stretches of sleep. She also used it during daytime naps, including when her child fell asleep in the pushchair or bassinet. “That’s when I tried out the portable battery pack, which made it much easier to keep everything running without needing to be near a plug,” she explains.

Maisie also tested the monitor while moving between different rooms and outside in the garden, looking at how reliably the parent unit and app maintained a connection. As she points out, “it was used in normal day to day situations mainly overnight and during naps that weren’t contact naps!”, giving her a good sense of how it fitted into their everyday routine.

During testing, Maisie assessed the picture and audio quality, battery life, signal strength and ease of use, as well as features including cry detection, temperature monitoring, night vision, soothing sounds and app functionality. She also looked at how practical the portable camera, parent unit and app were when monitoring her baby around the home.

Hubble Go Baby Plus what's in the box

Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor: what’s in the box?

When the Hubble Go Baby Plus arrived, the box contained:

  • The camera unit

  • 5-inch parent monitor

  • Charging cables and power adaptors for both units

  • Wall mount for fixed installation

  • Bendy stand for flexible camera positioning

  • Portable battery pack

  • Quick start guide, and full instruction manual

The monitor comes with a useful selection of accessories, including both a wall mount and bendy stand. Maisie didn't use the wall mount during testing but found the bendy stand more useful for everyday positioning, as it made it easy to adjust the camera angle, depending on where her child slept.

The portable battery pack was the standout extra for Maisie. “The portable battery pack was the most useful extra for me,” she says, particularly for travel and situations where her baby might be sleeping in different rooms or away from a power socket.

The quick start guide provides the basics for getting started, while a full instruction manual is also included.

Does it come with extras?

Yes, the Hubble Go Baby Plus comes with a few useful extras, including:

  • Wall mount

  • Bendy stand

  • Portable battery pack

  • Quick start guide

Maisie found the bendy stand particularly handy. Although she didn't use the wall mount, she liked that the stand made it easy to adjust the camera position and find the right angle. The only downside was that it could tip over if it wasn't placed on a stable surface.

The quick start guide was also useful and gave her enough information to get everything connected, although the initial setup still took a little while.

The portable battery pack added extra flexibility, making it easier to use the camera in different rooms without always needing to be near a plug socket. Maisie also felt it would be particularly useful for travel and overnight stays.

How easy is the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor to set up for first use?

Maisie found the Hubble Go Baby Plus straightforward to set up, although it wasn't particularly quick. “It took a little while to set up, probably around 40 minutes in total, but overall, it was fairly easy to get going,” she says.

The instructions were clear enough and most of the process felt intuitive. Pairing the camera with the parent unit and connecting it to Wi-Fi was simple once everything was working, but the first attempt failed and Maisie had to restart the setup. There was also a software update that took longer than expected.

As a result, this isn't one to leave until you're getting ready for bed. “It wasn’t something I could just quickly do right before bedtime,” Maisie says. Her advice is to allow plenty of time to get everything connected and working before you actually need to use it.

How does it actually work?

Once it's set up, Maisie found the Hubble Go Baby Plus a breeze. The parent unit connects to the camera automatically, so day to day it's largely a case of picking it up and checking in when needed. “In practice, the monitor is pretty easy to use once it’s all set up,” she says.

The basic controls, including zoom and talk-back, are simple to navigate, while the clear, responsive screen makes checking on her baby at night particularly easy. She didn't find herself needing to dig through menus or settings for quick checks.

The alerts were generally useful, although Maisie found them a little sensitive at times. “In many instances, the cry notifications would even pick up crying from a different room,” she explains, which made them feel less precise.

The parent unit was more responsive than the app, which could take a little longer to load the live feed. Once connected, though, Maisie found the app generally stable. One thing to bear in mind is that frequent notifications and live viewing can drain your phone battery quite quickly.

Overall, she found it “designed for quick, simple use rather than anything overly complicated”, which suited everyday use well.

How does the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor look?

The Hubble Go Baby Plus has a practical, modern design, with a compact camera and 5-inch parent unit that are both easy to move around the house. Maisie admits she wasn't immediately convinced by the colour, saying it “reminded me a bit of a PlayStation”, but it grew on her over time and she liked that it looked different from the usual white baby tech.

The 5-inch screen feels like a good size for quick checks, while the simple controls keep the parent unit from feeling overly technical. It's also lightweight enough to carry around easily. “It’s fairly lightweight too, so it’s easy to carry around the house or put in your pocket!” says Maisie.

The camera is compact and unobtrusive in the nursery, while the bendy stand makes it easy to adjust the position. Maisie also found it easy to clean, which is always useful when baby-related equipment is involved.

She particularly liked the built-in nightlight, which she found “quite sleek and subtle rather than too bright or distracting.” Overall, Maisie felt it was “more practical than premium, but in a good way.”

The 5-inch parent unit provides a clear view of your baby, with controls that make it easy to check in throughout the day and night.

How sturdy is the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor?

Maisie found the Hubble Go Baby Plus reassuringly sturdy for everyday family use, with both the camera and parent unit feeling solid without being overly heavy. “In terms of durability, it feels more practical than delicate,” she says, adding that the buttons and controls don't feel flimsy.

It also stood up well to some realistic toddler testing. “It actually survived a few knocks including being dropped a couple of times by our toddler, and it still worked fine afterwards with no obvious damage or issues.” The cables, charging connections and accessories also felt secure and durable during normal use.

Maisie wouldn't describe it as a premium, luxury-feeling monitor, but she didn't have any concerns about it standing up to regular family life. “It’s built more for everyday practicality than rough handling, but it doesn’t feel fragile,” she says.

What is the Hubble Go Baby Plus like to use day to day?

In day-to-day use, Maisie found the Hubble Go Baby Plus easy to slot into their routine once she was familiar with it. The parent unit was particularly handy for quick checks around the house, while she used the app when doing jobs or spending time in the garden.

“After a few days it became very intuitive and just part of the routine, during naps and at bedtime,” she says. The simple menus and controls meant she didn't need to spend much time navigating settings, while the live view was generally responsive on the parent unit.

The app could take a little longer to connect, but once running it was generally stable. Maisie also found the alerts helpful overall, although the battery notification was “a bit loud at times”, particularly during the night.

Having the monitor readily to hand gave Maisie some extra reassurance during the day, particularly when her baby was napping. She found it made monitoring easier without having to keep going back into the room, which was particularly useful during the heatwave.

Hubble Go Baby Plus app

The free HubbleClub app lets you check in on your baby remotely from your smartphone, wherever you are.

Does it come with any smart features?

Yes. The Hubble Go Baby Plus has a good range of smart features through the app, giving it more functionality than a basic baby monitor. Maisie found the motion, sound and cry alerts useful for reassurance, particularly overnight, although they could sometimes be a little too sensitive.

The temperature monitoring was one feature she genuinely used regularly. She checked it particularly often at night to make sure the room was comfortable for her child. The app also offers blink and movement detection, which Maisie found interesting, although she describes these as more of a “nice to have” than features she relied on every day.

There are also built-in lullabies, white noise and nature sounds, which she found useful for settling her baby at bedtime. Sleep tracking, activity logs and a sleep schedule are available through the app too, although Maisie uses Huckleberry for sleep tracking, so didn't make much use of these herself.

The app also includes parenting articles and tips, which Maisie liked as an additional feature. “It makes it feel more like a wider parenting tool rather than just a baby monitor,” she says.

As a second-time mum, Maisie found she naturally didn't use all the tracking features as much as she might have with her first child. “It’s more about quick, simple reassurance this time rather than closely monitoring every detail,” she explains, so she tended to stick to the features she found most useful day to day.

Does it use Wi-Fi and how is the signal?

The Hubble Go Baby Plus uses Wi-Fi for its app features, but Maisie found the parent unit was the more reliable option overall. Around the house, she was able to move between rooms, including those with thicker walls, without losing the connection. “Signal strength was good in most rooms,” she says, with only occasional lag rather than any significant dropouts.

The app was a little more hit and miss. There were a couple of brief disconnects, although it usually reconnected by itself, and Maisie found it could take a moment to load when first opening the live feed.

The biggest difference was when she used the app outside. “In the garden the app was a little laggy at times and not quite as reliable,” she explains, with the live feed sometimes taking longer to load or feeling less responsive.

One useful feature is that the monitor can continue working via its local connection if the Wi-Fi drops out, so Maisie could still monitor her child without relying on the app. Overall, she felt confident using it overnight, particularly with the parent unit, which she found “very stable and consistent.”

The 2K QHD camera delivers sharp, detailed video, making it easy to keep an eye on your baby both day and night.

How is the video quality on the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor?

Video quality was one of the Hubble Go Baby Plus's strongest points for Maisie. She found the picture on the 5-inch parent unit clear and sharp, making it easy to see her child at a glance. “The screen size made it easy to see my little one clearly,” she says, and she also found the overall viewing experience smooth and straightforward.

Night vision performed well too, giving her a clear enough view during overnight checks without needing to turn on any extra light. The zoom and camera controls were useful when she needed a closer look, although she didn't use them constantly.

There was occasionally a slight delay, particularly when using the app. On a couple of occasions, Maisie says it “briefly showed an older or previous moment from the feed before updating to the live view.” Once connected, though, it was generally reliable.

Overall, she was impressed with the picture quality in both day and night conditions. The feed isn't always completely instant, particularly through the app, but the clear image made it easy to check on her baby without heading into the room.

How is the audio quality of the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor?

Maisie was pleased with the overall audio performance, particularly when it came to hearing her child clearly: “The audio quality was generally good, and I could clearly hear my child most of the time. Sound came through clearly on both the parent unit and the app, and louder noises were picked up well.”

There was occasionally a slight delay, particularly when using the app, and Maisie found the microphone could be quite sensitive to background noise.

“One thing I did notice was that it occasionally picked up sounds from other rooms, like our dog barking or our toddler shouting, which made it feel a bit overly sensitive at times. Quieter noises from my child were still picked up reasonably well, but it wasn’t always perfectly filtered.”

There wasn't much noticeable distortion and the volume was easy to adjust. Overall, Maisie felt the sound was reliable for everyday monitoring, although the filtering could be more refined. As she puts it: “The sound was clear enough for everyday use, but it wasn’t completely refined when it came to filtering background noise or separating different rooms.”

How portable is the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor?

Portability is one of the Hubble Go Baby Plus's biggest strengths. Maisie found it easy to move around the house, thanks to the portable battery pack and compact camera setup, which meant she wasn't constantly tied to a plug socket during naps.

The charging cables also earned praise during testing. As she explains: “I found the longer cables useful as they give you more flexibility in where you can place everything without needing to be right next to a socket. It made setting up in different rooms much easier.”

Although she mainly used the monitor at home, Maisie says she'd happily take it away on trips or overnight stays. It packs down easily and doesn't take long to set up again, making it a practical option for travel.

One thing she felt was missing, however, was a storage pouch. “It would still be handy to have a travel pouch to keep all the parts together, as there are a few components and it would help avoid forgetting anything when packing.”

The only slight reservation she had was around using the app on public Wi-Fi. While she had no issues at home, she wasn't completely sure how stable or secure a hotel connection would be in comparison. Overall, though, she found the Hubble Go Baby Plus flexible and easy to transport, whether moving between rooms or packing it up for a night away.

The portable battery pack made it much easier to keep everything running without needing to be near a plug

How is the battery life of the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor?

Maisie found battery life generally reliable during testing, although how long it lasted depended on how heavily she was using the screen and app.

“The parent unit would usually last a decent stretch through the day with regular checking. The portable battery pack was helpful when moving the camera around the house, especially during naps, as it meant I wasn’t always tied to charging points.”

She found charging straightforward, and the longer cables made it easier to use the monitor while it was plugged in. That said, it wasn't the quickest device to recharge.

Battery performance remained consistent throughout testing, with the main drain coming from heavier use of the app. “Features like continuous video and frequent alerts did have a noticeable impact on battery life, particularly on the phone when using the app,” says Maisie.

For overnight use, Maisie was happy with how long the parent unit lasted: “I didn’t worry about it running out overnight when the parent unit was charged, as it comfortably lasted through night use.”

The bigger annoyance was remembering to charge it after heavier daytime use, as the low-battery warning is particularly hard to ignore. “The battery low sound was quite noisy!” she says.

How easy is it to clean?

Keeping the Hubble Go Baby Plus clean was straightforward for Maisie. She used a microfibre cloth with a little water to wipe down the camera and parent unit, which was enough to keep them looking clean without much effort. The devices didn't seem to attract much dust, although, as you'd expect, the screen did pick up fingerprints. These were easy enough to wipe away.

The cables and accessories were also easy to keep tidy, although Maisie found they could become a little messy when things were moved around frequently. The longer cables helped with positioning, but there are still several bits to keep track of.

How does it compare to other baby monitors on the market?

Maisie felt the Hubble Go Baby Plus sits somewhere between the Owlet and VTech monitors she's used before.

She found the Owlet more focused on tracking and health-style data, while VTech was “more basic and straightforward without many extras.” In comparison, she felt the Hubble offered a useful middle ground, combining a feature-rich app with a physical parent unit that was quick and simple to use.

“This monitor feels like it blends the two approaches quite well, with the app offering more smart features, but still keeping a physical parent unit that’s quick, simple and reliable to use.”

Is the Hubble Go Baby Plus baby monitor good value for money?

Maisie feels the Hubble Go Baby Plus offers good value for money, particularly for parents who are likely to use its extra features and portability. The video and audio quality are solid for everyday use, while the parent unit feels dependable, especially overnight. There are occasional delays and the alerts can be a little sensitive, but these didn't outweigh the overall functionality for her.

The app adds plenty of extras, including temperature monitoring, alerts, sleep tracking and additional parenting content. Maisie didn't use all these regularly, but felt the extra functionality was useful to have. The portable battery pack was the standout for her, particularly because it made the monitor much easier to move around the house and take away.

“The portable battery was a real favourite feature for me, and I’d say it definitely helps justify the higher price compared with more basic entry level monitors, especially if you’re thinking about travel or just wanting more flexibility day to day.” She also found the build quality reassuring during testing, with the monitor holding up well to being moved around the house.

Overall, Maisie feels the combination of the physical parent unit, feature-rich app and portable battery makes the Hubble Go Baby Plus good value overall, particularly for parents who want more flexibility and functionality than a straightforward baby monitor provides.
