Andaz London Liverpool Street Hotel review: a stylish base for a city break with kids

Right next to Liverpool Street station, the Andaz is a design-led luxury hotel that manages to be both stylish and surprisingly family friendly. We stayed as a family of four (with lively two-year-old twins!) and felt genuinely looked after from check-in to check-out.

Our rating:

What we like
  • Great location for exploring east London and beyond

  • Thoughtful family touches: teddies, toddler-sized dressing gowns, Childs Farm toiletries

  • Huge suites with loads of space for the kids to spread out

  • Incredible breakfast buffet – the chocolate croissants deserve their own mention

  • Breakfast room toy station = parents get to drink hot coffee in peace

  • On-site Japanese restaurant, Miyako, serves delicious food and toddler-friendly cucumber sushi rolls

  • Happy hour: complimentary wine, beer, and snacks in the lobby

  • Super attentive staff throughout

What we don't like
  • No swimming pool

  • Rates are pricey

  • Room was a little dark, but spacious and well-equipped, so not a dealbreaker

  • No dedicated kids’ menu at Miyako – though the staff were brilliant and adapted dishes for little ones

  • It’s a largely business traveller crowd throughout the week

Location:

Right next to Liverpool Street station, the Andaz makes a great base for a family-friendly city break. Buzzy east London hotspots like Spitalfields Market, Shoreditch and Brick Lane are within walking distance, and there’s tube and train access on the doorstep.

This stylish hotel offers something quite rare – a grown up luxury stay paired with a genuinely welcoming atmosphere for families, and there are child-friendly touches throughout, from the toy station in the breakfast room to Childs Farm toiletries and mini dressing gowns for kids.

We stayed with lively twins in tow and found the staff super attentive and friendly, setting up a travel cot and a sofabed to give us different sleeping options in our suite, and preparing cucumber sushi rolls for our toddlers when we dined at the on-site Japanese restaurant, Miyako.

Our highlights included the sizable suites – giving us plenty of space to kick back and relax, the daily happy hour for complimentary wine, beer, and snacks in the lobby, the generous 12pm check-out, and the amazing breakfast pastries.

While a pool or more kid-focused facilities would be a bonus, the fantastic location, spacious rooms, and thoughtful touches more than make up for it. We’d happily return – especially for another chocolate croissant!

How we tested

Toddlers in a family suite at the Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel

We stayed on a Saturday night as a family of four. We dined at the on-site Japanese restaurant, Miyako, in the evening and had breakfast on Sunday. We arrived in the afternoon and checked out mid-morning. A short stay but packed with highlights. Before check-in, we took our twins to the nearby Discover Story Centre in Stratford, which was a big hit.

What are the rooms like?

Kids on a bed at the Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel

We stayed in an Andaz Suite, and it was perfect for a young family. Spacious enough for a superking bed, a sofa bed, a travel cot, a desk, lounge chairs and a big wardrobe - plus a complimentary mini-fridge (always a win). The staff kindly set up both the sofa bed and the cot, giving us different sleeping options. Of course, the twins ended up in bed with us - but thankfully, it was massive and very comfy!

Teddies on the bed at Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel

We were really impressed by the thoughtful touches: two adorable toddler-sized robes, Andaz teddy bears, and a pack of Childs Farm toiletries including shampoo, body wash, and body cream. The bathroom had a bath (great for little ones) and came stocked with essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, and make-up pads.

The Family Suite is specially designed for kids but free cots can be set up in all room types apart from the Queen rooms.

What activities/facilities are on offer?

The Happy Hour at Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel

Cheers to complimentary Happy Hour drinks in the lobby!

With just one night, we didn’t have loads of time to explore, but our standout features include:

  • The daily Happy Hour with complimentary wine, beer and canapés served in the lobby between 6 and 7pm

  • A small art gallery we stumbled upon while exploring, plus plenty of space for toddlers to roam

  • The basket of toys for kids to play with in the breakfast room

The Eastway Brasserie features a selection of toys for kids to play with at breakfast.

There’s no swimming pool, which would have been a bonus, but with London on your doorstep, you’re unlikely to spend too much time indoors.

What’s the food like?

The Andaz has five on-site restaurants and bars so there’s something for everyone, even the under fives.

The breakfast buffet at Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel

We had the buffet breakfast here and were really impressed. We loved the huge variety of food on offer including cereals, pastries, hot food, cheeses, yoghurts, and a lovely local touch - a Brick Lane bagel station. The best bit? The kids’ toy station meant we could actually enjoy breakfast without the usual chaos.

Miyako for lunch and dinner

Miyako Japanese restaurant at Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel

The Japanese restaurant is intimate and relaxed, perfect for an early dinner with kids. While there isn’t a specific children’s menu, the staff were incredibly accommodating when we visited - the chef even made the twins cucumber rolls. The salmon teriyaki and chicken katsu curry were spot on, and the cocktails didn’t disappoint either.

Other dining options we didn’t try

  • 1901 Wine Lounge, an elegant setting for wine tasting and afternoon tea

  • Lady Abercorn’s Pub & Kitchen for British pub classics and Sunday roasts

  • Rake’s Café Bar, a cafe by day and a bar by night. You can also opt for breakfast here if you fancy a change from the buffet

What is there to do nearby?

The grand exterior of the Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel.

The Andaz’s location means you're well placed to explore the best of London. While we were there, we decided to keep things toddler friendly and visited the following attractions:

  • Discover Story Centre, Stratford: an 8-minute train ride away. An immersive, interactive space perfect for young kids, with a lovely storytelling session and outdoor play area.

  • Everyman Cinema (Broadgate): a short walk away. They run a toddler film club most weekend mornings which is ideal for rainy days.

  • Local sights: the hotel is within walking distance of the Tower of London, the South Bank, Borough Market if you're in the mood for sightseeing.
