Call for legal recognition of polyamory

Greens being totally batshit again. Presumably this means polygamy should be legalised. What a time to be alive.
Schoolchildren should be taught that more than two people can be in a relationship and that polyamory is no better or worse than being in a traditional couple, according to a radical proposal by Green activists.

Official documents show the Greens of Colour group will say at the annual gathering, which starts on Saturday in Inverness, that “poly relationships are growing in number across Scotland but remain without recognition”.

It adds that “sex and relationships education” should not prescribe “specific relationship structures as superior or inherently more desirable” and that lessons “should cover a mix of sexual identities, and recognise both romantic and non-romantic … relationships”.

I live in the Bay Area, and it's massive here, yes, although the preferred term is ENM, Ethical Non-Monogamy, because everything is open and discussed.

They would also resent the statement regarding man:woman ratios, as everyone in them is genderqueer, gender expansive, non binary, two-spirit, or something along those lines.

Then there are the endless byzantine discussions about how distinguishing between primary and secondary partners is discriminatory and how to fit in the needs of ace, aro, demi, femme, disabled, vegan folx in the monthly munch.

ALL THE TIME. I find it difficult to believe that any shagging gets done.

Plus the blue hair and piercings, of course. And they think they are being so cutting-edge and saving the world. They're annoying, exhausting, and so, so predictable.

Edited

If I guessed at who did all the house work and child care in these types of relationships would I be wrong?

I think very little of that gets done, if at all. But of course, when it happens, it falls to the mother birthing partner.

I'd be willing to bet most, group sex relationships are all male, so just another example of men kicking off because they're not getting what they think they're entitled to.

All six of the polyamorous relationships I have known well have been one man and two women cohabiting. In each case they have ended up (after a year or two; the longest-lasting that I remember hung on for almost four years) with one married couple and one woman going off on her own or with someone new.

I'm in a polycule that's been going on for nearly 7 years now with my boyfriend and his boyfriend, and would quite like to be able to have legal protections like not being fired from work if my colleagues found out about my rather unexciting household and saw it as immoral behaviour, as well as tax, medical emergency and parental responsibility rules that recognise the importance of my partner, metamour and I as a family unit.

Most of the polycules I know center around a woman with multiple partners, my boyfriend does most of the housework, and my polycule are not coerced or miserable, FWIW.

The polyamorous community attracts a lot of people who are neurodivergent and in particular who have ADHD; understandably that means a lot more of us than the average person are seen as strange, have issues with impulsivity, and may not comply with or understand social norms to the point of being significantly disabled by social difficulties. That doesn't mean we are all awful; the rather infamous polycules filled with misogynistic TRAs mentioned in prior threads are not representative of all of us any more than Boy George represents the entire gay community. We do differ.

I'm in favour of laws that recognise polyamorous and other household setups, but I wish someone other than the greens would champion it because they're clearly full of people who are quite mentally unwell, and the state of the environment is such a pressing concern that I wish they'd actually focus on that for once and choose candidates who aren't predatory weirdos but would actually command some respect from the public. 😬

Glad it works for you. But I believe there are already legal protections against discrimination in the workplace based on sexual orientation. And you can set up legal provisions for legal guardianship of your children, etc.

I understand that it's for you to do the heavy lifting rather than have a ready-made option as for monogamous relationships. But granting tax exemptions to polygamous households, for example, would open the door to rampant fraud. Not to mention that the vast majority of polygamous relationships in the world involve treating women as basically chattel.

You are entitled to the same tax reliefs as everyone else.

So do you think affair partners should have legal protections? People treating their ex badly in a divorce? Arguably someone having an affair or being a knob in their divorce is more likely to be shunned at work than someone with multiple partners.

Yes, that's the logical next step.

Countries Where Polygamy Is Legal 2026

In many, probably most, of those countries polygamy means one man, up to four wives. Though the stats on it are remarkably coy about saying this; I suspect that if any country says "permitted for Muslims" it means one man, two or more wives not the other way round. Polygyny seems to be more widespread as a practice than polyandry.

Polygyny itself is hardly modern and new and daring, is it; positively Old Testament Biblical, Abraham, Jacob, Solomon, and all that. Muhammed had nine wives, I think, or maybe eleven but not all at the same time because two of them predeceased him. (But he had only one for twenty-four years, and only started marrying around after she had died when he was forty-nine.)

What do you want on the tax front for your polycule?

Well there's the example in the Bhagavad Gita of Draupadi and the 5 Pandava brothers who apparently ALL married her at the same time!

OK so thinking of this logically

What rights in the UK do people in poly-x need that they do not already have?

  1. Employment- I still think this would be considered unfair dismissal so another law is not needed.
  2. Parental rights- this could be very complicated and is unlikely to be included in any official recognition of a poly-x relationship.
  3. Property- maybe useful to get people to think about their property.
  4. Tax and Parental Rights Leave- not sure about this one
  5. Legal protections in criminal cases- could be very very complicated in a cult-like situation.

Any law would have to be considerate of

  1. Cult-like behaviour.
  2. Use of Poly-x to cover up incest. In large families, if children are not clear on who their parents are and 1st-cousin marriage is permitted in the UK, this could be disastrous a couple of incidents down the line.

Like with Trans, etc., the way that adult middle-class, educated and atheistic elites interpret the "rules of the 'cule" will be different to the way that the general population does, and it will cause harm if they don't take this into account.

We can’t have a discussion about polyamory without Chris Fleming’s Polyamorous.

I was thinking the same, will they shift into being a modern version of P.I.E. ?

I’ve thought this too. I think it goes hand in hand with trans ideaology too. If you accept that a child has an innate sense of their gender and their sexuality. Then the next step seems to be respecting their right to express their true sexual selves.

Every child is unique and goes through puberty differently so why should they have the same age limits?🤢😱 it’s a bizarre combination of it’s islamophobic to suggest that having sex with children is wrong meets the wests you should feel free to have a relationship with who you choose.

I do think the grooming gangs are a good example of this where there was a police / social workers narrative that children who were being abused were really the victims of their own poor decision making. Whilst not ideal the rights of a child to make their own decisions had to be respected even if it led to sub-optimal outcomes.

I think the greens are all about getting rid of traditional safeguards under the guise of “rights”

Well there's the example in the Bhagavad Gita of Draupadi and the 5 Pandava brothers who apparently ALL married her at the same time!

There are (very few) examples of actual polyandry, where the same woman is "shared" by several brothers. I believe this happens in Nepal, or Tibet. The point is that the children belong to the same paternal line, so it doesn't matter which of the brothers is the biological father.

It has nothing to do with women having several consorts of their choice.

polycule people don’t need legal protections, they need a cleaning schedule and a grip.

And a year's supply of Angel Delight and Pot Noodles of course.
