Can you explain what transphobia is then?

they can never explain it. They ever even try to.
They can’t explain it in the context of JKR’s essays and posts on X because she hasn’t written anything that isn’t factual and correct. And she’s never posted anything transphobic.

JollySmall · 25/10/2026 11:04

CoolforKats · 25/10/2026 10:57

Go look it up, I'm not here to be your personal dictionary.

I know what the definition is, I'm just finding it hard to work out what you think is transphobic at JKR's essays. Is it more of I know what she said is 'this' but what she means is 'that'?

JamesKirkupReviewWritersFund · 25/10/2026 11:00

are you Kylie Maree @CoolforKats? IF not, why doesn’t Kylie benefit from your protective actions of not exposing their name to MN which you proudly did for the Great Writer of Screeds?

Sorry its not in the gender critical 'skill set' to comprehend.

No. It just doesn’t exist. There is transphobia.

CoolforKats · 25/10/2026 10:46

TheKeatingFive · 25/10/2026 10:44

What makes her ‘anti trans’?

Sorry its not in the gender critical 'skill set' to comprehend.

TheKeatingFive · 25/10/2026 10:44

CoolforKats · 25/10/2026 10:43

I don't need to accuse her of being anti trans when its self evident she is.

And if you were able to follow the thread you might understand why the Bindel quote was relevant but I doubt it.

CoolforKats · 25/10/2026 10:43

Verisregina · 25/10/2026 10:30

@CoolforKats Hmmm, so you don’t have a problem with JKR stating her support for women’s rights, and you can’t accuse her of being anti-trans, so you’ve decided to bolster ‘your’ argument and disregard the subject of this thread by bringing in another well-kent women’s rights activist who isn’t scared of being cancelled …

If this was a post about Julie Blindel then fine, have a go. Otherwise 5/10 for effort, 1/10 for effectiveness.

I have thought about how this will be portrayed in future text books;

In the early 21st century, individualisation and capitalism collided. As a result of 20th-century human rights movements, the main issues of discrimination in society were on a path to resolution. This resulted in human rights activists and organisations with little purpose and rising costs.

A solution was found to increase the breadth of the previous causes. Disability charities widened the definition of atypical neurological presentation and developed a new term - neurodivergence so inclusive that everyone could be involved. Women's rights were expanded to include disability caused by menopause and an unquantifiable "pay-gap". The biggest expansion: Lesbian and Gay rights found a way to include the most lucrative of recruits; insecure adolescents with body image issues and wealthy middle-aged men, by telling them their fetish was a healthy and normal state of being.

You could throw in
"In the 1920s, philosophers incl Marcuse felt that the class element of Marxism needed to be extended beyond pure economics to include all aspects of culture, to create multiple definitions of the oppressed class. In the 1960s, philosophers incl Foucault popularized the theory that language was a weapon (words are violence) used by the ruling class, yet could be used to reorder reality by establishing that the language used by oppressed peoples created their reality, not top down so-called objective realities, especially in the areas of race and colonialism.
In the 1990s, philosophers like Butler took this further re gender to state that biological sex was but one measure of gender, internal feelings mattered more, and the world would need to adjust around every individuals assessment of their gender expression.
Yet instead of any pushback to these theories, the broad swath of European academia absorbed this, the theories migrated to American universities, and in time, the whole of civic society in the West transformed from the classical Enlightenment model of rights based on objective reality to rights based on internal feelings, and a spectrum of intersecting and conflicting worldviews".

If you admire it, then at least have the decency to acknowledge the author.

The quote is from X so I don't know that the author's tag name wants to be promoted on Mumsnet. Its upto people who want to know to go & find out for themselves which they have.

But really, despite all that verbiage, the bottom line is that JKR thinks women have the right to singles sex spaces and protection in law and has said so.

That wasn't the point of the commentary but feel free to take from it whatever doesn't challenge your world view.

It must be galling that she can’t be silenced by the rape and death threats, or forced into accepting TWAW, and has enough cultural and financial capital to keep on supporting and promoting women’s rights and stating the bleeding obvious that TWAreNotW.

Uh huh…

In the early 20th century, a group of men in dresses was encouraged to use the facilities for a biology they didn’t possess. These men promptly adopted female personalities and escaped from a niche fetish to become online media and political darlings. Today, still feted by the estalblishment, they survive as soldiers of culture. If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them, maybe you can hire, The TRA-Team.

It's in a song from the Gilbert and Sullivan opera "Patience" - the one where they're taking the piss out of the Aesthetic Movement. First line: If you're anxious for to shine..

Thank you, I shall have to familiarise myself with that, as my G&S knowledge is mostly The Mikado and bits of Pirates of Penzance and Iolanthe.

HenriettaSwanLeavitt2 · 24/10/2026 21:30

It's because they are men I imagine. I can't get over a female, black nurse being called a n**r (!!!) and yet the omnicause still goes in to bat for the trans, male rapist.

Edit: strange interaction between MN and asterisks, sorry

Edited

You couldn't make some of this stuff up, could you? A prisoner attended by a prison officer calls a nurse a n----r after she referred to him as he in talking to a doctor about an issue related to male anatomy, and she's the one in trouble.

I really hope that we will look back on this period from the future and be able to laugh about how ridiculous it all was, but it feels a long way from that at the moment.

I remember that. The closer was meant to be New Paragraphs, but unfortunately, they didn't show up

I'm not too sad about that, to be frank.

IIRC they were on right after Incoherent Ramblings, who got booed off and pelted with Tunnocks

Can’t you write?
Why can’t you précis the key points yourself?

Igneococcus · 25/10/2026 00:49

I was briefly glad my internet is back (storm still getting worse however) but then I saw that rambling piece of pseudo-intellectual vacuity upthread. I find it hard to believe anyone would share that unless they want to embarrass the author.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them... maybe you can hire The A-Team.
