JKR must be the greatest example of action/reaction.
I believe she must be the most vilified public figure in my lifetime, if you're to believe (im)polite society, she's more toxic than Savile, Tate, Epstein and Weinstein combined.
That can only come as a reaction to genuine positive groundbreaking and historic change that she's wrought and represents.
I've never been one to look for heroes in life, even role models didn't seem to be needed.
I was wrong, in an unmoored world, where vanishingly few are prepared to whisper the truth let alone speak up clearly, she's absolutely needed.
The endless thunder against her, and the prolonged cheers for her, speaks absolute volumes, literally, about her unique position as vanguard of a liberal Enlightenment hugely at risk.

They are all men so they will never be hated as much as a single woman saying no.

And honestly, there are plenty of people (men) who admire these four men for the glamour, money and fame they once had. The ability to do what they wanted when they wanted and who stuck a finger up at the establishment. Versus "mummy" who said no, don't be mean and stop ogling at the girls.

Thank you JKR for your powerful update and continuing to stand for women and our rights, for funding charities, for funding women to fight cases they should never have been faced with. Also for the laughs you have given in your responses sometimes to the ridiculous attacks on you. At times when I've felt despair at the supposedly intelligent people, in positions of authority, who have fallen for this ridiculous fantasy, your words have helped keep me going. And thanks to everyone on this thread for the Churchill theme, I love it! Just getting over Covid and I needed a laugh!

They're STILL doing it - any time we ask for a plopper's opinion on the JKR essay they paste a link to a blog post from Erin Thingy or a denunciation article from a 'queer' website 🙄

They seem remarkably unable to discuss and interpret first hand sources, instead they must wait for Reddit to issue the approved talking points.

Do they discourse any other way?

Oh she must have paid her taxes and given shed loads to charity (again)

What a monster she is.

I have nothing but admiration for JKR, if it weren't for her we'd be up shit creek without a paddle like all the other 'liberal' countries in the West.

All the women who have suffered because of this Gender Idiocy, Maya, Sandy, Jo Phonix, Kathleen Stock, the list goes on and on, they needed a hero and they got the perfect one.

Because of her we were able to hold the line, and all those brave, courageous, women who wouldn't wheesth or back down were able to fight back.

For all the Identitarians out there this has nothing to do with 'trans' it's about women's rights and if JKR is angry, so are we, and we're all angry at the same people, those self-serving women who thought they could take our rights off us and give them to men, in order to climb the greasy pole.

Sorry to tell you 'trans' it has nothing to do with you, it never was, this is about women fighting to regain what has been stolen off them by those self-identifying 'feminist's' who have rendered the female a footnote in their own cause.

Far from being on the 'wrong side of history', JKR is been making history, it's not just women's rights, she is also standing up and fighting for freedom of expression, she's holding governments and politicians to account, she's also helping to save democracy.

Thank you JKR, your essay was brilliant, thank you for not looking the other way as you so easily could have, thank you for sticking with us despite all of the vitriol, spite and threats of violence you've had directed at you. 👏

No no - according to Forbes she’s only worth a measly £975mil now. As TRA/PP’s above say - she is rapidly approaching penury as a result of her bigotry, wouldn’t you know? Serves her right too…

🤣 oh to be as close to destitution as she is.

And for this she's been vilified and condemned. Thank goodness she's rich enough and brave enough to speak out for those of us who aren't.

There was a group called The Association [whether valid or social, I can't say] their big hit in 1967 was a song with the unlikely title of Windy
with the lines
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow
Everyone knows it's Windy

I'm not making that up, honest😃

I remember that. Yes I really am that old.

Ooh me me! I remember Windy, wasn’t it the theme tune to Today (as in Bill Grundy). Then there was The Associates, I give you Party Fears Two 🎶

This comment from reddit 🤣

Now that all her money is drying up, because people are seeing her for who she is, she's trying to back away from what she said.

Several companies who have paid for her work are now asking for reimbursements, and talking to lawyers to cancel contracts.

She has become a pariah in the entertainment industry.

Two people on Reddit have asked the poster of this ^ comment for more details. I cannot wait to see what the poster comes up with as evidence.

I think the giants might be suffering the same fate that Stonehenge did in Spinal Tap.

Ah. They ordered them from Etsy and didn't realise the price was too good to be true.

My only problem with the essay is the phrase "to uninterruptedly continue" which doesn't sound right. We aren't supposed to worry about split infinitives now but "to continue without interruption" sounds better.

Interrupts the flow somewhat.

I am not sure many of them actually can read, beyond key stage 2 level anyway. I think much of where we are today is the result of the dire state of education - science, literacy, critical thinking, debating/speaking skills.

My teacher friends tell me that behavioural issues are a hindrance to learning in many classes and their hands are tied wrt consequences, especially if parents do not cooperate. School sizes, especially secondary, are larger than ideal. 10-12 classes per year group in all state secondaries here. Difficult to build effective relationships between school and homes.
In the primary sector here, many children do not speak english when they start school, an added challenge. Some years ago it was reported that a local primary had 40+ different languages listed as first language for their pupils. Fairly challenging for a teacher, even of languages, to teach effectively in that situation.

I've always liked the quote about seeing so far because we stand on the shoulders of giants, but for some time now I've been wondering where the giants have gone.
Are they a long way away or actually quite close but very, very small.
Maybe they just identify as giants like I identify as incredibly witty & a great dancer after a few drinks.

I think the giants might be suffering the same fate that Stonehenge did in Spinal Tap.

Aside from the ludicrous claims about work drying up. That Reddit poster can't have read the updated essay if they think it shows that JKR is trying to back away from what she previously said.

They couldn’t possibly read her words for themselves, it would be literal genocide, never mind have an opinion of their own. Any dissent from Correct Thought is automatic excommunication.

It's most odd that a polite statement = literal violence, but actually graphic threats of literal violence =/= literal violence.

Ever get the feeling that some people are living in a different reality to you, or indeed themselves.

Perhaps they could channel it into fantasy fiction, I hear it can be quite lucrative, if not too solipsistic.
