Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women’s pub. The sign on the door says CELEBRATION, in glitter, and the gerbils have been told they may use as much glitter as they like.

The champagne is flowing, and it is the good kind. Every bubble is perfectly fizzy, every glass is bottomless, and nobody wakes up with a headache or a vague memory of singing to a coat rack. You may toast as many times as you wish and remain entirely clear-headed, sharp-witted and ready to explain your point again, louder, with hand gestures.

The gerbil crew has gone all out. There are bunting-laden tunnels, a tiny brass band that knows many tunes and play them with total conviction, and a head gerbil in a waistcoat who will announce your achievement to the whole room if you hand over a sunflower seed. Several gerbils have been practising a synchronised pouring routine. Two of them have already collided with the canapés, and the canapés are fine.

Whatever you are celebrating, a win, a finish, a survived meeting, a Tuesday, pull up a stool and raise a glass. The corks are popping, the confetti is mostly staying in the building, and everyone here is on your side.

Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road, where they are invited to cheer from a respectful distance.

Cheers, everyone. The next round is on the gerbils.

Boily I think you'll struggle with that steak!
I'll have some of those chips though, with salt and pepper and a HugoSpritz, so I can raise a toast to Myrtle and her Walrus (lovely whiskers, Mr W) and the new Nhs guidelines

V v tired from house renovations. Never ending .....🐼
Righto- off to Sporner Corner 😆

Help yourself, I'll probably only eat a couple.

Oh, I see you are.

Dinner was lovely and we are now home, drinking crémant as a celebration before watching Taskmaster.

I must send off the blanket for the Woolly Hugs auction tomorrow and other postage and printing things. It is frustrating not to have a printer any more, so I have to go to the library or the printers. How do people manage?

Then the Walrus has a dressing change at the GP tomorrow at 1645 before we drive to our weekend away.

For the sporners, I’m about to post a picture of his dressing on my sporner thread. Not as bad as this morning, so don’t get too excited.

I go on line buy postage from royal mail and they arrive at my door with the label, stick it on my parcel and leave with the parcel.

Saves me using my printer AND having to go to the Post Office.

ETA although for actually printing things when I've been printerless I've had to go to the printshop which can cost just a much as a new printer these days

Yes! I’d forgotten.

But also I have to print a letter for my nephew to sign so I am allowed to talk to the pension company for his dad (my late brother) so I can get his pension money off the woman who said she would look after him, and then put him in care when it all got a bit difficult. And I need to print the letter to the shoe company with pictures because the zip has broken.

I didn't initially notice the AI, having stuck me in the pan, had also added some seasoning and tiny utensils to the worktop.

The nana banana AI is freaky. When i initially asked it for an image inside the Bluestocking it pulled up old images as reference samples from previous mumsnet threads!

I like my regular RM post people. They are friendly and, when I have several M&S parcels for them to collect on consecutive they say, “See you tomorrow.”

My problem is that they don’t bring the sticky label to my door, they say they’ll put it on when they get back to the van. The only time my parcel hasn’t reached its destination is when they’d said that.

I had an artwork not reach its exhibiton because the expeltive deleted at the PO told me not to put an address label on it because it had a barcode, & they'd just read the bar code to find the destination. Yeah, that didn't work.

AsWithGlad · 15/10/2026 21:42

consecutive days, my last post should have read.

That's how my broken on arrival printer got lost on its way back to Amazon I think. The dpd guy said he'd stick the label on in the van. And the printer was never seen again.

Although if he nicked it he wasn't very bright as I'd marked on the outside of the box that there was a broken printer and broken parts in the box.

Luckily it was registered as being picked up so I did get refunded but it took an extra few weeks to sort.

Nothing leaves without the label attached and properly smoothed down so it's definitely stuck on, in front of me now.

"Ellie Harris looked relieved to be asked something she had a procedure for and handed Gantry a hard hat. It went over Gantry’s ears, then her shoulders, and came to rest on the flagstones with Gantry somewhere inside it"

God love her! Gubbins at increased volume!

And this is why I don’t hang out more at the Bluestocking! I’m out for a day, and I’m 5 pages behind. <chunters unreasonably>

Change how many posts are on each page to 1000 and you'll always be on the current page. The page refresh takes forever though.

It’s ok to dive back in without catching up - for some reason I’ve forgotten you can indicate that you’ve been missing with a 👻 if you want.

After all, when you go into a physical pub you don’t get a recap on all the craic since you were last there.

Not only that one might have a prolonged absence and upon return there is a bunch of new people and one is sitting in what was your bar stool lol

I see our newest patrons are getting to know one another in the tearoom. That's nice.

I hope those gerbil costumes aren't the first sign of yet another musical production. The cloth caps are a bizarre addition.

Ooh 😦 is that Glam Davros? Love it.
I used one of those new fangled solar powered post boxes recently. It all went smoothly, the reader on the post box worked to my surprise. Then it took TEN days to get there! From Camden to Kingston ffs

Resort to "accidentally" stabbing them with the spikes. Works on me when you are eyeing up the last snowball.

EdithStourton · 16/10/2026 02:09

solar powered post boxes
Wut?
Bloody solar farms popping up everywhere around here, but do we get a solar powered post box?
Do we hell!

<sulks>

And I couldn't be wider awake if I tried, and I've got a busy day tomorrow.

EdithStourton · 16/10/2026 02:16

Oh, and Batshit, bless her...
I parked in a village hall carpark this afternoon as the starting point for a walk, only to find the place swarming with small children, assorted parents, football coaches, ⚽️s by the dozen, etc. So I put B&B on the lead to reassure the parents that they wouldn't skittle any toddlers.

I accidentally dropped Batshit's lead. She managed to put a back paw on it and brought herself up short with a bit of a jolt. She was totally confused, for about 3 seconds until she forgot all about it.

If she had a longer memory, she'd be even more baffled by life than she is already.

AMansAManForAllThat · 16/10/2026 07:35

I’ve had two dogs as an adult, one who took the opportunity of a dropped lead to go at a pace he felt more suitable, leaving me trotting behind. The other would spin round and demand someone hold his handle. He was perfectly capable of ignoring recall when off lead, but on lead felt the handle should be held at all times, or else what was the point?

AngleofRepose · 16/10/2026 08:20

Bore da! (coffee, where's the coffee...?)

Why do they say to put the recycling out before 5am if they're not going to collect until 7.30 anyway?

Just

WHY?

(There's 3 hours of sleep I'll never get back)
@EdithStourton hope you managed to get back to sleep 🌸

MoistVonL · 16/10/2026 08:32

My childhood dog used to like taking herself for walks, with the end of the lead firmly in her mouth.

EdithStourton · 16/10/2026 08:59

@AngleofRepose I finally got to sleep at about 4, and woke up for good at about 7.30. I'm sure I can do the day just fine on 3.5 hours sleep...

They come at some ungodly hour for our recycling - we must be near the start of the round.
