how trans people and women could work together to address one of society’s core problems, namely men’s misogyny and their violence towards women and trans people,

How can you talk seriously about men's misogyny you are in denial about being a man?

Surely if male violence was to cease the reason for men in women's clothes using womens facilities would disappear?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 29/05/2023 11:31

Re the Stella o malley documentary, she made a follow up documentary with the producer on the making of trans kids.

Anyone got a link?

Helleofabore · 29/05/2023 11:12

I think the clips of the violence, the intimidation and all their protests and hyperbole need to be collated and played back to them.

I did think that these activists would see all the ridiculousness in their behaviour at the women’s rallies and think, oh no…. We look like tantrumming children and with those signs, degenerate ones as well. But no. The message started to seep through, but that message got distracted on its way through and has encouraged them to greater heights. They took it as a challenge to beat.

Stephen Whittle seems upset.

'Stock is portrayed as an unfairly attacked woman who is being targeted & terrorised by trans activists using unlawful techniques'

Funny, that.

In a somewhat confusing rant, Whittle seems upset at having been put into a film Whittle disagrees with, while also being largely upset that the film wasn't more interested in Whittle:

'I assumed, naively, that everyone would be shown in a similar way to each other in order to obtain that balance they said they were seeking, In fact,
7. Throughout the film Stock is allowed to narrate the story, her involvement, her background, and what she sees as her persecution.
8. Nobody else gets to do that. I do not get to do that, to tell about my life as an academic who has faced similar events and handled them very differently could have been the direct contrast to hers.'
...
The film does not show my knowledge and expertise
...
I am barely in the film, and who I am and why I am there is not at all clear. It’s a head that pops up twice and says something for 10 seconds then 20 seconds'

So, the filmmakers seem to have chosen to focus on Kathleen Stock as a sort of 'main protagonist' - not quite sure why anyone would take this so personally.

Whittle is cross about many things. Some of which are quite hard to grasp, but include details about 'errors' such as:

'12. The film show ‘all in black’ activists setting off coloured smoke flares. But as the film director and producer knew they were not smoke bombs, but coloured short lived blue and pink flares (the colours of the trans flag)'

Shocking to malign trans activists as having set off smoke flares when actually they set off ... coloured smoke flares.

'Stock’s dressing in a more non-feminine way is not placed in the recent context of her falling in love with a woman. Having spent most of her life as a feminine married woman, she even claims she now understands a little of how it feels to be trans having occasionally been misgendered herself. I will assure anyone that almost 6’ tall Kathleen Stock cannot understand a fingertip of the life this 5’2” trans man has lived over the last 50 years.'

I can't see the point Whittle is making here, other than an attempt to try and pretend Stock is somehow more 'gender conforming' than Whittle is? I suspect Whittle needs to grow up a bit, tbh, and accept that Whittle can't control other people's views, thoughts, reactions, responses and beliefs.

Finally, it is absolutely awful that Whittle and family have been subject to harassment and abuse. Appalling and unacceptable. This should never happen. I would stand up for you, Stephen Whittle, and your family, should I ever witness such abuse.

If only Whittle could widen Whittle's compassion to condemn the abuse Kathleen Stock has faced, instead of trying to dismiss it.

Of course we would stand up for whittle and any abuse they receive should stop.

However, I suspect that either Whittle’s cognitive abilities and ability to articulate their thoughts has been decreasing or they are now free to discuss these issues and they are really not impressive considering their career.

What they have been discussing about this program seems jumbled and like a narc rage. When you see it, it makes Kathleen Stock seem even more reasonable.

This is pretty hilarious. Short version: "You made us look bad by showing us doing something bad."

Dear Stephen - if you don't want the audience to think of your side as being aggressive masked men dressed in black and letting off smoke flares to intimidate women, then perhaps consider stopping wearing masks, dressing in black and letting off smoke flares?

C4's Genderwars is "A Vile and Horrible Little Film"

Transgender, transsexual, gender identity, human rights, the Law and other concerns

https://whittlings.blogspot.com/2023/05/c4s-genderwars-is-vile-and-horrible.html

Helleofabore · 28/05/2023 22:30

This seems to be a controversial program going by the trans activists outcry. Maybe this will have some semblance of balance.

I cannot imagine it being fully biased at this time when poll after poll shows just what the majority view of the UK population is, there have been so many scandals with the tavistock and mermaids etc, the GRR in Scotland and Bryson, and the sports issues. The reality is that it would be ridiculous to not aim for presenting both sides fairly and it would lack any credibility.

OldCrone · 21/04/2023 10:22

Also this:

She has also argued that self-ID “threatens a secure understanding of the concept ‘lesbian’”, rooting her rhetoric in a belief of immutable biological sex.

I'm sure most people share her belief that sex is immutable.

Yep.

They sound like complete nutters sneering about her belief that the earth orbits around the sun.

Crouton19 · 28/05/2023 08:26

Interestingly it looks like some trans advocates who took part thought they had been duped -

Blimey, they really do not tolerate anyone talking to the media whatsoever! Very aggressive responses for people so fragile.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/05/2023 08:15

Duped eh? Getting the excuses in early! 🙄

WarriorN · 28/05/2023 06:44

I see it's whittle et Al making a fuss about the documentary

WarriorN · 28/05/2023 06:42

Can't find it though...

WarriorN · 28/05/2023 06:38

She was here too discussing it - way before Genspect.

WarriorN · 28/05/2023 06:38

Re the Stella o malley documentary, she made a follow up documentary with the producer on the making of trans kids.

As he'd NEVER had such difficulty getting people on the other side to talk.

He said it was worse than reporting on Israeli Palestinian relations. They were way more compliant than the trans activists side.

Its on C4 at 10pm this coming Tuesday 30th May.

I'd forgotten the earlier programme but this is obviously being marketed by C4 as shock jock tv - along with Depp vs Heard. https://www.channel4.com/press/news/channel-4-announces-trailblazing-slate-provocative-new-shows-its-2023-content-showcase

Interestingly it looks like some trans advocates who took part thought they had been duped - https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/13tj30i/channel_4_deceives_trans_and_nonbinary/

Just realised isn't tuesday the day KS is meant to be giving a speach in Oxford? Spooky conincident or C4 going all out to attract attention.

Thank you.

OP posts:
MissPollysFitDolly · 21/04/2023 18:42

Thanks, that's fair enough. I'd like to hear what KS has to say but I agree, the more voices the better.

DrLouiseJMoody · 21/04/2023 18:38

KS, as I understand it, endorses political lesbianism and has made a number of remarks that are, quite frankly, offensive to those of us who know our orientation to be innate. Clearly, she's entitled to her views just as I'm entitled to object. That and another Oxbridge educated academic platformed yet again as if there are no other GC lesbians is tedious. I realise she's the obvious go to voice but I know so many women, working hard, helping women on the ground, who are rarely, if ever, acknowledged. It's not KS' fault, I suppose, but a reflection of the classist society we live in. As I say, it's great a documentary like this is being made but, absent more diversity, I'll skip.

MissPollysFitDolly · 21/04/2023 18:14

DrLouiseJMoody · 21/04/2023 17:32

Is this based around KS or are there going to be more diverse participants? There's many women we don't hear from so much who deserve a platform, and I'd like to see more than just the same few voices (some of whom certainly don't speak for, or in any way represent, ordinary lesbians like me). Otherwise, whilst the principle is sound, I'll give it a miss.

What does KS say that you disagree with or you don't think represents ordinary lesbians?

DrLouiseJMoody · 21/04/2023 17:42

Lordy! Probably not (although I can't really complain about the lack of diversity if I don't try and change it, can I?).

SinnerBoy · 21/04/2023 17:38

Would you think of applying to speak, Louise?

C4 did air this excellent documentary in 2018 with Stella O'Malley. It was called Trans Kids, it's time to talk. Here's the section where she goes to a talk and trans activists storm the building 😬

Oh wow, that’s really shocking. I love Stella O’Malley, she’s so calm and reasonable, and her own childhood dysphoria gives her gravity most others don’t have. And from 5 years ago, 2018, when I was completely oblivious to all of this stuff!
