Apparently a big interview set to be aired relating to "any country in which trans clinics exist."

Morning, all. I'm so sorry - this was my SNAFU (actually, it might have been a FU to be fair). We had a report on this thread late last night, spotted that it had no original post and assumed it was an error and the whole thread should have been deleted at the time. We don't usually delete 'just' an OP as the thread then makes no sense but it looks like we made an exception for this one.

It's back where it should be now. Thanks for letting us know! Flowers

It's back! 🥳

I wonder if those who were originally on the thread could see it?

I wasn't on that thread but I could see it.

Back in 2016 I was not a member and the only times I visited Mumsnet were when it came up in search results when I was looking for advice about various DIY repairs.

That's what I thought Mumsnet was all about - unblocking sinks and dealing with limescale! 😂

Right. Apologies, I reported it to say I couldn't see it. Thinking it was a glitch. But I'm now furious as that's clearly made it go poof for everyone. Angry

OhWhatMerryHellIsThis · 24/04/2023 08:12

It was all there yesterday, all 1,000 posts of it. I read a fair bit, including posts by KateMumsnet which were, to say the least, pretty bland and not well received!

WarriorN · 24/04/2023 07:51

Thanks Bosky but I have a feeling that it was deleted a while ago. I remember trying to access it before - I assumed it was a glitch my end as saw this strange message and others could see the thread.

I now get a normal deletion message. Which is also odd. Especially if you could all see the thread this week.

Well, that's annoying. This link won't be rendered correctly but in the text but it should appear in a useable form at the bottom of this post:

Oh wow! It has gone since the last time I looked! MN's attempt to delete it must have been botched the first time! Your screenshot is what I saw for the OP but the rest of the thread was there - all 1,000 posts because I checked the last page.

So it had been there since 2016 and has just been deleted now! There were several messages from Mumsnet on the thread but I didn't bother to stop to read them.

Some pages were captured automatically over the years on web archive org but not all of them.

Posting links here creates an unholy mess so you would have to pop the URL into here to find them - add an asterisk after the URL:

Just listening and even though I've read loads about the Tavistock, read Hannah Barnes' book, seen loads on Twitter/social media from people who deal with gender-confused kids in the western world every day, it's still quite shocking to hear this interview from someone who was steeped in it for a long time.

Her clinic banned people from using the phrase "I have concerns about a patient" 😳- totally antithetical to good practice in medical ethics.

pickledandpuzzled · 18/04/2023 15:07

Yes. I was there, too. Can't believe how long ago.

The row on MN around that time pulled me in, with me moving from "there's some odd stuff here" to "oh, no, no, that's not right at all".

7 years indeed. But some people were awake to it a decade or more before that.

AutumnCrow · 18/04/2023 14:44

nauticant · 18/04/2023 14:30

I've been back to check I was on that thread. And I was, under a different name though.

Summer 2016, bloody hell. Nearly 7 years.

WarriorN · 18/04/2023 14:38

I remember reading it. Didn't fully understand it till a little while later

The fightback on MN started in earnest in about 2016:

Gosh really? I think I've been joining in comments about that from around 2017 without being shut down.

WHEN WILL THEY WAKE UP!

OP posts:
Blimeor · 18/04/2023 10:18

Many moons ago I wrote here (under a different name) wondering how much of transitioning for young girls was a social influence. I remember getting shut down about it. I'm glad it's being talked about.

WarriorN · 18/04/2023 09:50

There was another really key point she noted that I've just forgotten again grr.

Just finished the video and she makes a strong case for the developmental normalness of teenagers searching and grappling with questions of gender. It makes me think, where are all the pediatricians and childhood development experts? I am also left a little baffled as she seems herself so set against medical intervention (as a gay person with a personal political tilt towards anarchy) yet worked in that terrible clinic. How did that come about? It doesn't cohere to me

Write a huge post yesterday that got lost 😞

She does give clues to why she fell for it - consider the numbers initially and by the end, the complete cult like language etc. also how WPATH developed to be more batshit over time (eyes two women in the uk).

I've also experienced the realisation that those you think are highly qualified can come up with stupid ideas that they wont accept criticism of within education (SEND, certain pedagogical approaches, Luckily enough of us challenged it.) so when this happens in medicine it must be MUCH harder to change. Because they're all trusting the system. And the system was captured here.

Re the developmental experts I've seen a gradual abandonment of this in nursery nurse training. The old style training even taught observation skills etc. good grounding in Piaget etc. TAs doubt get this. I also feel teacher training doesn't cover it much anymore; there are many routes (I believe the new 2 year nqt thing, now called an early career teacher is to mop up some of this but I'm not aware of these basic concepts being covered.)

I can only imagine that it's similarly happening in medicine. But also the paediatricians are all captured too. Educational psychology. The universities are captured.

It’s because anorexia was a way for girls to reject puberty. Gender dysphoria is the new way for girls to reject puberty. One is being replaced for the other. The terrifying thing is that whilst anorexia was treated, gender dysphoria is being positively encouraged. It is a meme. An idea that catches on and gains momentum and spreads. Social media is making the spread of gender dysphoria much quicker than anorexia back in the 1980s and 1990s which relied more on real life word of mouth. How professionals are not seeing this is beyond me.

I hadn't quite seen it that way - horrifying

Jamie Reed is onto one of the key points now. Because all of the US medical establishment is captured, it will be very difficult for detransitioners with harmed bodies/health to sue for medical malpractice. Judges will tend to see the practice as having been in the mainstream.

If being in the mainstream means that people cannot sue for harms done in the US then it may take a good deal longer for the huge medical scandal, that this is going to create, to break.

That is potentially tragic as more young people will continue to be harmed. It will also mean that many of those harmed will never obtain justice.

I hope they’re wrong. Just because medics jumped on a profitable bandwagon shouldn’t excuse them from not scrutinizing the evidence base. The power of lobby group WPATH, who falsely claim to be medical experts while instead pushing a radicalised affirmation agenda (when the established, better evidenced treatment was watchful waiting) is key and the problems they have created need to be closely scrutinized to prevent recurrence.

Perhaps it's no coincidence that the same demographic that cut themselves or suffer mass fainting or anorexia, all mostly by social contagion, are the demographic that are mostly claiming rapid onset gender disphoria. Is it a coincidence that the same people that do this are politically active on the left?
The point this guest made was made 6 months ago by Janice Fiamengo on what is driving rapid onset gender disphoria in so many predominantly young women and girls who are leftwing white middleclass females. In the progressive uber left community where their value comes from a persons position in the victim Olympics, they have no value whatsoever as they are crippled by their guilty, white middleclass privilege. In their world they are only onestep above white middle class men. By jumping on the trans train they go from zero to hero in their eyes and the eyes of everybody on the left
